[Report] ICC informs the PCB that India has refused to travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 [Updated Post #418]

Jay Shah To Discuss Champions Trophy 2025 Deadlock with Mohsin Naqvi: Report

Jay Shah, the current BCCI Secretary and incoming ICC President, is expected to meet ICC officials in Dubai to address the ongoing deadlock over the 2025 Champions Trophy, according to a report by ARY News. Following the meeting, Shah is likely to have a telephonic conversation with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to discuss India's participation in the tournament.

The Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to take place in Pakistan in February, marking the country’s first ICC event since the 1996 ODI World Cup. However, India has expressed security concerns and proposed a hybrid model where their matches would be played at a neutral venue. The PCB has reportedly opposed this suggestion.

A Cricket Pakistan report highlights that the outcome of Shah’s discussions with ICC officials could significantly influence the tournament’s fate. The ICC has reportedly urged the PCB to accept the hybrid model, emphasizing that India’s participation is essential for hosting the Champions Trophy or any other ICC event. The ICC has also advised the PCB to avoid making anti-India statements amid the ongoing standoff.

The resolution of this issue is expected to shape the planning and execution of the 2025 Champions Trophy.

So it's come to the point where jay Shah is going to beg mohsin naqvi to accept the hybrid model because they also want to play champions trophy 🏆

Mohsin Naqvi from sealing twin cities to convincing neighbouring country to visit for a cricket tournament, what a paradox

seems like BCCI is feeling the heat now

So it's come to the point where jay Shah is going to beg mohsin naqvi to accept the hybrid model because they also want to play champions trophy 🏆

Naqvi will announce UAE as the host unveil the official jerseys and logo for the Asia Cup 25 without India's name as hosts.

According to ARY news...just saying.

I will believe when it happens.

That is what you get from the article? Jay Shah is going to make an offer Naqvi can't refuse lol I just hope CT goes on without India. Win win for pak fans and ind fans.

Really? If that was the case why are the broadcasters making it such a big deal that Pakistan plays India? Is it so important to make jingo bingo points that you can ignore what is staring you in the face?

So it's come to the point where jay Shah is going to beg mohsin naqvi to accept the hybrid model because they also want to play champions trophy 🏆
:) :) Delusional pakistani fans can claim anything on the internet. Mohsin will be ordered to follow the ICC decision or forego the hosting rights. He would come out of the meeting with straight face and lie to the gullible fans.

Hybrid model it will be with some xtra cash/bribe to PCB for successful negotiations,

Naqvi will agree on hybrid model
- India and Pakistan both in different groups
- 1 semifinal in Pakistan
- 1 in semifinal Dubai
- Final in Lahore whether India qualifies or not
- All future ICC events in India the hybrid model will be used for Pakistan matches

More like delusional Indian fans.

The Champions Trophy is scheduled to be hosted in Pakistan, and Pakistan has no issue participating, regardless of whether India decides to show up or not.

It’s Jay Shah and the BCCI who might find themselves in a position of having to negotiate or beg for the tournament to be shifted out of Pakistan,

highlighting how India is actually the one facing the pressure in this situation.

Otherwise, why else would Jay Shah seek a meeting with Mohsin Naqvi?

Haven't India ready made the decision of not visiting Pakistan

"India has expressed security concerns and proposed a hybrid model where their matches would be played at a neutral venue. The PCB has reportedly opposed this suggestion."

i think you missed this part out of the article 🤭

Just watched a statistic where the dependency on the ICC annual handouts by the top cricket boards was assessed. According to the table, the likes of BCCI, England and Australia annual revenues depended around 10-15-20% on the ICC handouts but the PCB in comparison depend on the ICC around 50-60% for their annual revenues.

Have no idea why the PCB is pro-longing the inevitable. It is very clear they will have no choice but to accept the Hybrid model. Why are they playing to the galleries unnecessarily?
Or PCB can say shove it, and let India, Australia, and England play a mini tournament all year round, with some IPL cheer leading in between.

Jay Shah lives in India. The Broadcaster Star has its headquarters in India. After the merger majority of Star is owned by Ambani who lives in India.

But but but Cricket Pakistan and Ary knows everything.

It seems from the posters here, there is a political battle between Indian and Pakistani posters with both desperate to claim victory.

Whats interesting is both Indian and Pakistani sides would claim victory no matter what the outcome.

I mean I love my cricket.

But I could care less about whether Pakistan or India wins the political battle.

Scoring brownie points on internet forums doesnt entirely make sense when none of the posters would directly benefit from all these developments.

For me a hybrid tournament with India, a tournament in Pakistan without India or a tournament entirely out of Pakistan is all irrelevant as long as I get to watch some cricket.

The only time I will call out Indian posters is when they say "Death to Pakistan cricket" under the pretense of "freedom of expression" and continue to spew hatred and vitriol against Pakistan.

Sponsors are not fans. If it were upto them they would even want to play in Gaza

Mushtaq Ahmed while speaking to ANI:

"The Champions Trophy is an ICC tournament and Pakistan is hosting it. So I think India should not hesitate to play. The game should be taken as just a game. People of both countries like each other's cricket teams. If India comes to play cricket in Pakistan then it will be a great benefit for cricket,"

Decision makers are going to think vastly different from average cricket fans. Average cricket fans always are always going to make nationalistic argument. There is going to be element of pragmatism. I am not in favor of hybrid model either as it is a logistical nightmare for some teams. Then there is a small matter of where will pakistan play in case if they meet India. I am sure pakistan fans will want to see Pakistan match in their home venue. ALso it could set a precedence. To avoid all that they should replace India with Srilanka and continue. Yes there will be some financial fallout which they have to deal with.

A few days ago the tournament was going to be shifted to India and Pakistan left with nothing

The Indian version of events: First, the Champions Trophy is rumored to be shifted to South Africa, then Sri Lanka replaces India, followed by suggestions of moving it to India, then to the UAE, and finally a hybrid model is proposed.

The conclusion: Jay Shah ends up begging Mohsin Naqvi to agree to the hybrid model so Indian broadcasters can earn revenue and the Indian team can participate.

I didn't see any news that said Jay Shah sought a meeting with Mohsin. Did you make this up?
As the next ICC President, he wants to address an issue in ICC and that is a sign of a good administrator. But calling that action as "he is there to beg Mohsin.." is delusional to say the least. But I get it; it is clutching at the last straw to save their pride.

Cricket is much more popular than other sports in Pakistan. It was thriving from 70s to 00s when there was practically no lucrative money. players had basic salaries. There will always be players available for Pakistan to play for Pakistan at quarter of Salaries of Current Players . Tv Rights and sponsorship deals can change with better economy. Right nown Pakistan’s economy is struggling and effect trickle downs to sports too. But it does not mean it will keep struggling in future. All Pcb needs to do is improve quality of cricket Pakistan team plays and there will always be money available for PcB to tap in outside ICC share
In the 70s to 00s, there was a lot of money in Pak cricket. More than Indian cricket. IK would drive Ferrari. Same with hockey, Hassan Sardar Sohail Abbas etc. They were rockstars!!!

:) He is attempting to resolve a deadlock in ICC. Nothing in the article that says Jay Shah sought a meeting with Mohsin. If that is begging by the BCCI, I have only one thing to say - live peacefully.

Oh yeah when pakistan tries to solve issues it's begging and when india tries to solve issues

"oh he just resolving cricket issues" 💁‍♀️ (in a feminine voice")

Where was your "live peacfully" for the past few days

I guess you believe somehow PCB and Pakistan got upper hand suddenly and the BCCI is running behind the PCB. This is what I call as delusional. Probably a new found arrogance is causing them to be like that. Also, I never considered the PCB's stance was begging; it was just fake to fool their fan base.

To answer your question, I said "live peacefully" with a good intent and to rest the case. I was here in the last few days looking at both the chest thumping and the cries from both sides. My opinion was/is simple: Pakistan should host the tournament fully and should not go for a hybrid model. Any financial loss must be resolved by the ICC.

From the beginning, except some naive fans, many of us know the ICC would go for a hybrid model. Everything else is just noise.

Yes, India is embarrassed to admit that they need to meet with Mohsin Naqvi to persuade him to accept the hybrid model. Without this, an India-Pakistan match might not happen, and Star Sports could face losing billions in revenue.
The BCCI would be happy to go for a hybrid model. They were never against it. They simply refused to visit pakistan and they are sticking to that. The PCB on the other hand was trumpeting their commitment to host the entire tournament on home soil.
Now to save his face, Mohsin is the one who is meeting the ICC to come to a "compromise for the greater good of cricket". :) If they switch to a hybrid arrangement, the loser would be Pakistan cricket. And the PCB, and their fans should be embarrassed.

I would like to prepend your steps;

CT17 was the last CT tournament, and this was endorsed by the BCCI.

India were humiliated in CT17, the BCCI lobbied to bring back the CT!

India cannot decide where to play, who to play, or how to play.

😜

I expect we will have a decision soon then. Should have been handled 3-6 months ago.

I fully expect Jay Shah will come out and threaten Pakistan and PCB with excommunication from cricket if they don't comply.
I suspect he's quite under pressure from broadcasters who had factored this match into their revenue projections.

Really though-they should have started making planning after the last Asia cup.

Some people don't learn from previous humiliations. They seriously believe they can arm twist the BCCI to send their team to Pakistan.

Ah, a BJP cult follower trying to sound clever.

No one is arm-twisting the BJP—sorry, I meant the BCCI. It’s actually the BCCI that’s pressuring the rest of the cricket world to bow to its influence.

Fans on this forum are simply suggesting that India should forfeit the tournament if they’re unwilling to travel to Pakistan. If they truly stand by their principles, they should avoid playing Pakistan altogether.

In reality, it’s only the Indians embarrassing themselves by constantly bringing up money while selectively applying their so-called principles.

Either way, it's a blow for Indian fans who had been boasting for days, saying things like "the tournament will be moved outside of Pakistan," "Sri Lanka will replace Pakistan," "Pakistan is irrelevant," and "Pakistan will be isolated." In the end, Jay Shah had to arrange a meeting with Mohsin Naqvi to resolve the issue.

There’s no bigger humiliation for India than this

I guess Indians embarrassing themselves is a step in the right direction after humiliating themselves in WC23.

Indian Cricket : Can't win a tournament at home, won't play in a tournament abroad.

India has no money, neither do BCCI, this is why they've come with a hybrid-model proposal that masquerades itself as a begging bowl.

BCCI got creamed in WC23, and since then have become a laughing stock. Their past players ridiculed for being bang average. Fluked won comp win in 12 years. Pitiful return on investment.

Remember remember - BCCI makes more money domestically with the media and sponsors. I say India should bore off with their Jhandu blam and stick with their IPL Fair & Lovely cheer leaders.

:)
PCB's transition: "Hybrid model is not acceptable to us" to "We will play in hybrid model"
BCCI's stance: "We won't travel to Pakistan"

BCCI sticks to their stance and PCB bends backwards to be able to host an ICC tournament because they don't have the capability to host the entire tournament.

In this episode alone, we know who is getting humiliated. I guess I don't need to bring in the past PCB's misadventures here.

Hold your horses PCB hasn't agreed to a hybrid model 🤔

But Jay Shah wants to arrange a meeting to discuss 🤭

The newly found confidence of some pakistani fans is not surprising. :) Keep up your hope guys.
Anyway, this is a useless discussion for me. Hence, I am not going to post anymore on this thread.

I wish all the real knowledgeable cricket fans here, great success in your lives. Hope your team gives you good moments and memories in CT and beyond!

Ladies and gentlemen. This is what happens when Indians get caught fabricating information.

They run away, like their so called legendary batsmen. Its a common theme.

I think all the Indians have run away now. They literally hijacked the thread and were working in shifts to force their narratives down people's throats.

ICC chairman will meet every member board representative. That's his job.

Star makes billions from Indian market via IPL and home series rights of BCCI. Indian market doesn't care about pakistanis.

It's PCB that's depending on ICC revenue share to stay afloat.

Most Indians tend to be at the airport, cos they're always announcing their departures! 🤣
Indian already know the what is The status of PCB and most likely results.

We are now busy with the biggest test series in world cricket.

Continue living in your delusions world and enjoy. :shh

A troll was predicting demise of Indian economy in 2013. He was then predicting hanging of Indian sailors in Qatar.

He then runs away.

Trolling on PP and real world are two different things.

You will see most of them disappear once PCB is made to fall in line.

Yeah, that’s why Star is whining and throwing around legal threats just because there might not be a Pakistan vs. India match. 🤣

Why is India allowing Wasim Akram to commentate in this test series. Wasim is Pakistani and Jay Shah’s singular goal in life is to isolate anything to do with Pakistan.

Yes i have seen how they were claiming in champion trophy thread that india will have not option but to tour Pakistan for champions trophy.

They were disappeared from that thread when BCCI refused to send the team.

Now same situation again untill PCB will accept the hybrid model. They are living in own delusion world. :kp

Isn't Wasim and Waqar have Australian citizenship. Btw anyone can commented if they have desired .

Now Wasim is an Australian. :) Anyway Harsha did commentary in the Pakistan series.
Wasim is also Pakistani, is this another example of selective isolation? I don’t care about Harshee or whatever his name is, we don’t have an issue with Indian commentators.

Yeah, that’s why Star is whining and throwing around legal threats just because there might not be a Pakistan vs. India match. 🤣

Has Star made a statement?

Or is it some pakistani website.

FYI Star is now majority owned by Ambani.

Ambanis are now giving statements to little pakistani websites, while their own media channels report nothing?

Wasim is also Pakistani, is this another example of selective isolation? I don’t care about Harshee or whatever his name is, we don’t have an issue with Indian commentators.

This is a Australian series. Not organised in India. Wasim is likely a dual citizenship holder.

Doesn’t matter, where is the Indian policy of not allowing anything Pakistani to touch their cricket. I’m sure they could have flexed their muscle and gotten Wasim removed just like they did with the trophy tour.

It does matter. Dual citizenship holder isn't just a Pakistani.

This isn't a Series organised by BCCI.

Not Pakistan's problem.
You can keep covering your ears and screaming "not Pakistan's problem" how many ever times you want, it isn't going to change the fact that it is going to be Pakistan's problem and they are going to have to deal with it.

Pakistan doesn't tour India for ICC tournaments and gets to host group matches/semis in Pakistan for tournaments in India.
It's your choice to come to India or not. 2018 Asia Cup was supposed to be hosted by India and India gave up the hosting rights to UAE due to tensions with Pakistan and no one complained then.

This is the consistent delusion among fans of India. You think that Pakistan is required to pay for India's decisions. You want this to be a "heads I win tails you lose situation".
I repeat it again-no, Pakistan is not and will not be paying. India pays for its decisions. They came out and stated "we're not touring, we want a hybrid model". Well, let's assume that goes forward? Who's paying for it? The answer starts with I and ends with a-India. The political leaders haven't changed since 21. The head of the BCCI was chosen by those leaders. And let's be frank-Jay shah is Amit shah's son. He could have called up modi and asked him for the approval ages ago. Obviously he decided to play games instead.
India has stepped over a line here. This isn't a bilateral series or the Asia cup. It's an ICC tournament that was awarded, by the ICC, an ICC India chose to be a part of.
The model is massively broken and a decision must be made. I'm sure one will be made now that Naqvi and Shah are talking. But ICC isn't going to quit Pakistan, it's a large market they can't simply cut.
If I had to guess going forward Pakistan will not be touring India either and will play India hosted tournaments in neutral sites or be a co-host themselves.

You really ought to think deeper. It will help you.
