[REPORT] Misbah-ul-Haq may be asked to quit chief selector post

Knew he had a problem with Mickey Arthur but absolutely did not know about his usual conspiring crap.

If he was plotting MA’s downfall like that, he’s not learnt anything from Oathgate. The only thing I remember from Inzi's tenure is Shadab, Babar, Sarfraz (back then), Hassan (1.0) being given games. Given Misbah/YK retired in 2017, don’t think AA and AS could have been dropped in 2018. Just not realistic. However, what far-fetched hopes we had of them taking the mantle have naturally been repaid.

No comment on Wahab, Imam etc. Inzi was far from perfect, fair enough.
Mamoon was bang on the money when he once said: "His seems like a harmless, soft teddy bear on the outside, but he is one of the most cunning and sly individuals around. As long as he is with the team in any capacity, there will be trouble."

If this happens, will his salary be reduced?
IMO, he is an overpaid employee.

It should be, his exorbitant salary at the time was being justified under the pretext that he was taking on two roles. The team now has a batting coach, fast bowling coach, spin bowling coach and a fielding coach, so what exactly does Misbah do now that even the CS role is being taken away from him? His pay should definitely be reduced on account of fairness

No Misbah's salary won't be reduced. He was appointed by a powerful individual/entity whose authority exceeds well beyond PCB.

Who appointed Misbah?
MMHS is also talking about a stronger individual behind Misbah.

I will give you a clue, it was the same person who criticised Afridi's captaincy during the 2016 WT20 and said Misbah should have been the captain instead even though he had retired from the shortest format.

:inti But to be honest, once Misbah got his tentacles into the committee, there was no stopping him. He was like a bulldozer and knew all he had to was kick down the door in order to grab all the roles.

I believe Misbah is being paid the same amount as Mickey was being paid. At least, that’s what was hinted at in one of the press conferences.

They basically saved on Inzi’s salary by having one person for both roles.

I take your point and it might fair to assume he would have found a way to get the power grab he wanted but it shouldn't have happened so soon. I mean look he was still a professional cricket, as a PSL cricketer and had only retired from international cricket 3 years ago.

Who appoints a coach with no relevant experience for the role and just a level 2 coaching qualification? I acknowledge the PCB have their history of making blunders but when you look at the application process it was specifically design to eliminate everyone except Misbah. It reeked of corruption to say the least.

After the WC, Mickey Arthur was given assurances of retaining the role. It was one phone call that changed everything. I'm sure the PCB were ordered to appoint Misbah.

I think that certainly came to the fore when Oathgate happened. Hell, his insecurities about losing the captaincy were so clear in mid-2000s.

In this regard Shoaib Akhtar used to sum it up nicely on IuH: “Islam main darhi hai, darhi main Islam nahi.”

I don’t have a problem with the first part of this statement. I don’t think SA’s captaincy was good in WT20 or Asia Cup’16 (observations below).

About SA’s captaincy, I remember a few things but it’s been a while and I don’t really follow the shortest format with the same keenness as I follow Tests and ODIs:

- Defending 83 ish against India and Amir being a revelation: no third slip and Kohli edges one in typical Kohli through there at easy catchable height.

This was poor because the way Amir was bowling plus the fact you can only defend 83 by bowing the opp out. This was additionally poor because Kohli has a tendency to give his leading edge to left arm over the wicket bowlers while trying to close the face (other examples include him getting out to Riaz in WC’11 and to Amir a year later in the final of CT17 - mind you before he got out to Amir in CT17 he had already had some leading edges go through cover point trying to close the face).

The other thing that came to mind was how he used himself while captain. Used to come out to bat 6/7 despite the fact that 20 over format was literally made for his likes. Contrast that with how YK used him at No. 3 in 2009? Also, he deservedly got flak for coming out too low from Banigala in 2016 WT20. Inzi used to get the same flak from Banigala and I still remember Inzi finally having had enough and coming out to bat at 3 against Zimbabwe in 2007 WC after we had beeb eliminated - his last ODI.

Lol neither is the actual one, but this is the cricket section of PP.

I totally agree with his first sentence as well. Afridi was also a poor captain and as you rightly pointed
out, it showed during that game against India. Not having a 3rd slip there was criminal. I know for a fact Younis Khan would have gone for at least 3 slips! He was also instrumental to getting Afridi back to form with the bat during the 2009 WT20 by promoting him the order.

Younis Khan had a sound mind with how to utilise his players. Contrast this to Misbah, the only thing he knew about captaincy was defensive leg-side fields and playing his favourite sweaty oldies! So no thanks, the last thing we wanted is Misbah in the team let alone captain another white ball ICC event.

Yup, I was pinning hopes on Sarfraz having a good cricketing acumen post YK but only shades of that materialised... nothing concrete.

Afridi was pretty poor as a captain. His field placements in that game defending 83 showed that. All of the 3 wickets Amir got were on the back of his own bowling (Raina’s catch at Mid on hardly counts as a trap/tactical field setting).

Misbah should just become a naturalised Emirati. Was a good solution to bounce back from 2010 no balls, yes. But that purpose was done around 2013/14 especially with WC15 on the horizon.

Not to forget Afridi's inept captaincy was also there for everyone to see during the 2011 Mohali semi.

I have always maintained that Pakistan cricket would be in a far stronger position if we got rid off Misbah in white ball cricket following that Mohali knock and in tests after the embarrassing Zimbabwe tour in 2013.

Yup, Afridi’s captaincy and Misbah’s well paced innings as an ATG finisher. Not to mention that after the game Afridi’s toddlers were being interviewed on TV and they kept saying Misbah batted too slow lol.

The only thing worth keeping could have been MuH the batsman but pretty sure most alternatives could have done just as well in UAE.
