Pakistan cricket’s top four – Shaharyar Khan, the Pakistan Cricket Bord chairman, Inzamam-ul-Haq, the chief selector, Mickey Arthur, the head coach, and Misbah-ul-Haq, the Test skipper, have held a meeting on the sidelines of the Pakistan Super League to discuss the disastrous tour of Australia and decide on the future course of action.

Pakistan lost all three Tests — their fourth straight whitewash in Australia — and also went down 4-1 in the One-Day International series.

The talks may become complex over the future of Misbah, as Shaharyar and Arthur are in favour of giving the veteran one more chance in the three-match series in the West Indies in March-April and go out on a high.

“Shaharyar wants to know Misbah’s plan as Inzamam is against sending him to the West Indies and wants Sarfraz Ahmed to take over as skipper in all three formats,” said sources close to the meeting. “Mickey doesn’t want to lose another series in the Caribbean, so he is backing Misbah as his own contract will be on review in June soon after the West Indies tour.”

Arthur’s two-year contract has a clause for both parties to have a review after 12 months.

Azhar Ali’s ODI captaincy days are over as he was given a lifeline on the recommendations of Arthur following Pakistan’s 4-1 one-day defeat in England last year.

“While Inzamam is backing Sarfraz as skipper for all three formats, two other officials feel that it would put extra pressure on him as his ‘keeping has not been at its best in the longer format. Another lobby wants Younis Khan to lead the Test side for one year and groom Azhar for future,” said sources. “Azhar has lost the confidence of the top officials and he is unlikely to change his defensive mindset groomed under Misbah.”

All said and done, the next few days will be decisive for Pakistan cricket and Inzamam – blamed for his leniency in selection since taking over in May last year — is set to put his foot down and wants his say, or else leave.

If they are worried about Safraz's keeping in Tests. They should get a wicket keeper to replace Misbah. So he can concentrate captaincy.

In ODI's he should keep and do captaincy.

I dont think it is right to put so much burden on sarfraz ahmad.. i think sarfraz should play 1 or 2 more test series under misbah's captaincy as a vice captain and they should let him establish first as an odi captain before test captaincy..

Sarfraz keeping and captaining in all three formats is going to take its toll, hence it's a legit concern.

My proposed solution is that Sarfraz should retire from T20Is with Rizwan replacing him as WK, who opens with Sharjeel and Latif drops to number 4.

Babar or Imad can be given the captaincy, it's not really important in T20s.

The fact that there is even a discussion on the matter sums up everything that is wrong with Pakistan Cricket.

Gramps needs to step down now !

What's the point if he has power to decide whether to stay as captain or resign. SK can't sack him otherwise our formers outside PCB will eat him alive

Exactly!!!!! Sarfraz should concentrate only in ODI and test.

Micky should not backing Misbah and support Inzamam (Lost his credibility as selector). Azhar is not a captain material. Sarfraz is not fit enough to play all formats as a keeper+captain+batsman.
Younis Khan is not a bad choice as captain for 1 year

If I'm part of the discussion, I will join this lobby...

No.. Sarfraz as captain for LOIs..

MYK as captain for tests until he retire and it will give some time for Azhar to learn what is attacking captaincy is and eventually hand over it to Azhar,,,

Azhar is more deserving as a captain in TESTS than Sarfraz as far as I'm concerned..

In England a 32 year Captain is finally resigning while here a 43 year old refuses to and if he does resign then his replacement is a 33 year old ''for the future''.

Calamitous board, couldn't make this nonsensical garbage up.

A good player never always makes a good captain. Look at Sachin for example.

Misbah needs to do right thing and step down and if he does decided to stay on the captaincy needs to change, Fresh Ideas needed now with test side and we need to start rebuilding our test batting line up and W.I (away) is an idea series to do so.

Pakistani players with few exceptions dont know when to retire gracefully.

Misbah there is nothing to discuss , please retire

What is to discuss about Misbh, just drop him.

Make Azhar test captain and Sarfaraz for ODI and T20s.

Isn't this joke?that he wants to assess his performance in the PSL to make a decision...when his position is question as a test player where he has been nothing more than an average player in last 6 tests? Incredible and very selfish.

Despite being a huge Misbah fan, I want him to call it a day, at least as captain. West Indies is going to be a considerably easy tour and should be a good preparation for the future captain, who in my opinion should be Mohammad Amir or Sharjeel Khan. Anyone young, really.

Not surprised by Inzamam. Was always against Misbah in the beginning and will try to remove him now.

Its ironic how Misbah is being dropped for poor form in a series, while Sarfraz bhai himself hasn't done that good in recent tests.

man, some peoples bias is beyond hope, major you still really think misbah should continue on merit? Can you plz provide a single valid justification for that.

Yes, go watch New Zealand series. He was the only guy who could bat on that green track. He had one bad series in Australia, and everyone is going after him.

But T20Is take barely any toll on a player. It's Test matches which are the real challenge.

Do you really want the best for our team or like 11 Misbah who is only good enough to choke

I'm a massive fan of Misbah and if he wants to go to West Indies he should be allowed to do so in my opinion. If he wants to "go out on a high", then the WI series

Having said that - I don't think there is anything to gain from Misbah going to West Indies. Not for him or for the team. The West Indies tour is a good opportunity for a new skipper to take over.

At the the end of the day I feel Misbah has done enough to make this call himself.

Misbah has retired with grace in the other 2 formats.

He'll go down with grace here too, on WI tour.

Board should decide that if he continues beyond WI, then simply force him to retire. No other option.

Major needs to stop blind support.

I don't understand why mostly everyone on this forum wants Misbah to retire so bad.. Yeah, sure he's old but just ONE bad tour doesn't advocate your theory of him being done and dusted. He averaged 50 vs WI. Your best batsmen in the odd test he played vs NZ. Just one bad series in the worlds most toughest place to play cricket and you want to rule him out. Pak fans need to relax and stop expecting players to score big hundreds every single series.

The best of players have bad series.

You want a 41 year old with a questionable history (beating up fans, running away to go fishing, throwing a hissy fit when being dropped from the odi side, whining publically when the PSL didn't send him an invite to some party etc) to replace a 43 year old?

Azhar is 32 years old next week - either he's captaincy material or he isn't, this grooming business in nonsense.

I don't necessarily respond to people who follow the sport for individuals, but a wrong has to be righted. These are both player's numbers in the last three series (WI, NZ, Aus)

Misbah:

Sarfaraz:

Sarfaraz like every other Pakistani batsman (barring perhaps Sami) is wiping the floor with Misbah in terms of performance in the last few series.

I dont know why PCB keeps referring to Azhar as the 'future' or 'youngster'

Glad to see there are people who know the score with regards to Younus.

Misbah was going to retire anyway it was our board members who were keep asking him to captain the side now they want him to step down what is the problem in that? but yes they don't need to make NZ and AUS series a reason to step down. Sarfaraz can be a better captain as we have seen he has an experience of leading U-19 and Gladiator to final and if your talk about fielding our whole team is crap. Azhar as a test batsman awesome but as a captain no way he has no brain to become captain.

He should retire, his reflexes have clearly gone. His fitness is irrelevant at this point.

He has been a good servant for Pakistan cricket but we must move on.

Misbah should be ditched. He doesn't deserve a place in the playing XI, let alone captaincy. Younus should lead us in the West Indies, with Ahmed Shehzad as the vice captain. Sarfraz should only lead us in the limited overs format, so far, before Ahmed Shehzad takes over from him.

Ahmed Shehzad? He can barely manage his twitter account like an adult never mind captaining the test side.

What score?

That Younus, despite being a world class batsman, is also a huge drama queen who is incapable of handling the responsibility and pressures that come with being Pakistan captain. This isn't a personal opinion, it's something that Younus has displayed repeatedly over the years and is public knowledge.

Any time someone brings up his name as a potential captain it's safe to assume they haven't paid any attention to Pakistan cricket over the last ten or eleven years

What drama queen? He has been straight forward.

:)):)):)):)):)):)):))

Don't take my word for it, go and look at his troubled relationship with the captaincy for yourself. It's not hard to find.

What troubled relationship? He is a straight forward person, would trust him over anyone in the current Test squad.

OK, seeing as you seem intent on ignoring the facts and keeping your head buried in the sand:

Younis was the vice captain under Inzi and everyone knew he was going to replace him as captain once the big man retired. Inzi was suspended for a few games so Younis was temporarily given the ODI captaincy for the Champions Trophy in 2006. He turned down the offer because he didn't want to be "a dummy captain" and threw a public strop over not being given the same power as a permanent captain. After a couple of weeks of crying he accepted the role of "dummy captain" for the Champions Trophy.

Fast forward to 2007, Inzi retires from ODIs after the World Cup so now it's finally time for Younis to take his place as the permanent captain. The PCB offered him the captaincy with full powers and a new selection committee to support Younis (this is his own words) so there's no way he can refuse right? Wrong. He rejected the offer because the Pakistan fans were angry after being eliminated from the World Cup and losing to Ireland and Younis bottled it because he couldn't handle that pressure.

So that led to Shoaib Malik getting the captaincy when he wasn't ready and we all saw how that turned out. After a couple of years of Malik's captaincy ended in turmoil, Younis finally accepted the captaincy in 2009.

He couldn't even make it to 2010 before resigning after a mutiny and allegations of match-fixing. He then followed this up by going AWOL on a fishing trip when the PCB was trying to contact him to come to training camp ahead of a tour to Australia and New Zealand which meant he wasn't selected for the early stages of the tour.

That's just the captaincy, let's not forget the countless times he's gone running to the media crying and making threats every time he got dropped from the ODI team until the selectors caved to the pressure and reinstated him or that time he assaulted a fan.

Clearly someone who should be trusted with the captaincy isn't he?

All his actions were fair and acceptable. This is not a drama at all, he was being himself, straightforward, and not a dummy.

P.S. He won us a T20I WC.
