Misbah is going on his own terms.

We have seen this very rarely in the past with Pakistani players. None of them ever get a proper farewell. Most of them have to be thrown out before we can get rid of them.

I'm talking about the likes of Yousuf, Akhtar, Razzaq etc., also known as the bitter ones. All of these guys had to be shown the way.

However Misbah is an exception. He's going out with dignity and that makes me happy being a lifelong supporter of him.

What can be the possible reasons behind this?

first of all, SK loves Misbah a lot. Second of all, there are rumors that Misbah asked for a farewell series himself and SK duly obliged. However Afridi was denied a farewell match.

It's an ideal decision nonetheless, win the series there and finish on a positive note.

This is not going to change the fact that Misbah is going out with dignity. Are we really this naive to think that the likes of Yousuf etc. never asked for a farewell? Obviously they did!

Misbah has been a far greater servant for Pakistan than Yousuf who mastered the art of scoring soft runs.

Hopefully from now on onwards every great player will be treated with respect.

yeah, Misbah has been one of the best captains in our history.

He has made some negative decisions during his tenure, but the positives outweigh the negatives I think.

With that said, It still shows the double standards of PCB, giving a farewell series to one guy, who's a personal favorite, and denied it to another guy last year.

the other went to retire 3 times and who knows h may have said in the farewel match that his family want him to continue..

Lol at going out on his own term.

If shamelessly clinging on till it was clear to everyone and their aunt that is your time to go and only announcing your retirement a day after the head of PCB says that it will be your last series is going out with dignity, then there really isn't a lot of difference between Misbah and the ones who were dropped in an undignified manner.

Yeah, Misbah was a good servant for Pakistan but don't raise him on some sort of pedestal.

The simple difference here is that Misbah is getting a farewell while the bitter ones were thrown out.

Akhtar went out on his own terms.

Yes he announced his retirement before the WC but he was benched for Pakistan's last game in that tournament although I guess you're right.

Also Kamran ruined everything for him completely.

Going when he wants to.
Getting a proper farewell.
Being told that he he could in future be Director of Cricket.
Not being sacked.
Not leaving in disgrace.
Not having to beg for a farewell match.

I think it's all good for Misbah.

In terms of the 2000's:

Inzamam left literally in tears in the most heartbreaking guard of honour I have ever seen, it breaks my heart just to think about it; bob woolmer passing away, humiliating defeat to Ireland and all. Although I suppose he left on a higher note in Test cricket. Akhtar was literally given the boot after losing the plot against Akmal. It's a rare instance where the higher ups and PCB have generally been supportive in Misbah's decisions here though.

Are you suggesting that Misbah contributed more then Yousuf with the bat and was a better player?

Yousuf has scored 7.5K runs (4th highest ever for Pakistan) at an average of 53 and has 24 Hundreds in Test cricket. Also, he holds the world records for most runs and hundreds in a calendar year in addition to successive hundreds in 6 test matches. In the 2006 tour of England, Yousuf was the leading run scorer with 631 runs at an average of 90.14.

Don't forget Younis 'Team Man' Khan in ODIs! :yk2 :yk :yk3

The man who played a big role as captain en-route to helping Pakistan win the World T20, what a way to retire from T20's  nice to see he has some very grateful fans on PP :yk2

Thoroughly deserved, immense respect for Misbah.

I didn't mention batsman but yes Misbah is a better cricketer/player

Misbah ul haq is a better captain, is that what you mean when you say he is a better "cricketer" / "player" because otherwise what do those words account for when it comes to your definitions?

Mega :lol. Yes Misbah scored some really tough runs in fortress UAE.

...And just yesterday Saint Younis got into a fight with an umpire in a practice match. :))

Retired with grace from all 3 formats.

And it makes it even morr comforting to see the likes of Syed1 having a bad day. :najam

I hope he keeps his word now retiring with dignity. I have had enough of Afridi types who keep coming out of retirement or the Razzaq's who cry about not being given a good farewell.

I know people on this board hate him but from other side of the border there is only one word that describes Misbah - respect. This man is nothing but class act.

Misbah lost all the respect what he earned before he finally announced his retirement.

Full respects to the great man.
Hope for one last hurrah.
The slow and low West Indies pitches should suit him.

What i always liked about Misbah, and i am sure same is the case for most of his admirers is the way he completely stood out from the crowd in the dressing room and in Pakistan cricket in being an extremely professional, dignified and humble person. No wonder even at 42 he remains one of the liveliest Pakistani player on field and among the best runners between the wickets, All to do with the fact that he has managed to channel the energy to good purpose instead of being insecure and looking for excuses.

Pakistani will miss Misbah's dependable batting in the middle order as well as his wisdom. A definite choice for a coaching job in future if he decides to go for a coaching degree or something.

Thank you Misbah.

inzamam was forced out of the team.

he wasnt really ready to retire and by the end of his career allmost everyone hated him to gutts for the islamic culture he had bought into the team and ruined it completely.

he did get a farewell, but he was reallly hated by the time he retired
