A gunman has opened fire at a school in Saudi Arabia.

The US mission said there were no children present during the attack on the Kingdom School in Riyadh.

"Ongoing security incident at Kingdom School as of 3pm local time [1pm BST]," said a tweet. "Please avoid area due to heavy police presence."

The gunman fled the scene after opening fire on a group of teachers and employees, 3Alyoum reported.

Local reports of causalities could not immediately be confirmed.

Saudi Arabian schools are currently closed for the summer holidays, which started before the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
On its website, the Kingdom School says it operates separate facilities for boys and girls at elementary, intermediate and secondary levels, incorporating international programmes.

The complex sits in the upmarket al-Shemal district of Riyadh, which houses international bodies, hospitals and restaurants.

The school, opened in 2000, is operated by a company owned by Prince al-Waleed bin Talaal.

The Gems Education group and the Kingdom School could not immediately be reached for information

Apparently it is/was an angry former employee, an Iraqi. The school is owned and ran by Prince Waleed bin Talal (the billionaire). Surprised to see something like this happen...I've never heard of any shooting incident in Saudi.
