Maurya said each ambulance, which included a veterinarian and an animal paramedic, would transport abandoned, ill or injured cattle to special shelters or take them to animals hospitals for treatment in the state capital Lucknow and four other nearby cities.

The service, which would soon be expanded statewide, will also initiate legal action against those who abandon their cows once they stop giving milk.

Good to see that the priorities are straight.

Cow Ambulance while majority of people do not have access to ambulance if they need an emergency visit.

Cow vigilantes, Cow Ambulance, Cow Identification cards..... BJP digging their own grave.

BJP should realize that cow is not sacred to everyone in the country. This includes me even though I am a born into a Hindu family. While I don't eat Cow meat, I have no reverence towards that animal.

When will this forced reverence of a farm animal end? :sonu nigam

Are they really digging their own grave though? Reactions and recent elections from the Indian public makes it seem like this is exactly what they want. Majority of your population seems to value the life of a cow over humans.

Prejudice aside, what gave you that impression?

The wildlife tourism industry is a major contributor to the South African economy . We have to care care of our animals. We have animal and pet ambulances.

Animals should have the same rights as humans to medical care.

How a nation treats it's animals is a mark of it's civility. In Pakistan not much regard is given to animal welfare, so we should give the Indians credit where it's due. Now if only they could extend this to non-sacred animals like Christians and Muslims then we would really be seeing progress.

Instead of taking action against the mobs that kill beef eaters, Indian Government comes up with such initiative. The life of a cow is surely more precious than that of a human in India.

It's sad that the animal ambulance service in India is only for cows while other animals are being ignored.

It seems like the only animal the Indians respect is the cow.

The "Worldwide Animal Defenders" organization considers India to be the worlds biggest abuser of animals
