Sahibzada Farhan Sets New Record for Most Runs in a Single Edition of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup

Unpicked in PSL

When picked, gets dropped for Joe Clark in KK.

Had to force his way back into the PSL again through his performances in domestic cricket.

Picked against NZ, comes in at 7.

Now, he’s opening the batting for Pakistan, and Babar is on the bench.

So, when you see him celebrating his 100, take into consideration the journey he went through to get to where he is now.
Forget about all that. He was consistently the highest scorer throughout almost every domestic tournament for Khyber Pukhtunkhwa
and Peshawar and was consistently ignored from PSL and National Team while so many parchis constantly got selected.

The guy has struggled massively to get where he

@Farabi If we don’t talk about painful things, we will remain absolute minnows.

Nobody is saying to drop him. Excessive over the top celebrations while ignoring the flaws will haunt us in yet another tournament.

Operation needs to be done on bigger culprits like Agha, Shadab, Nawaz, which everyone agrees on. Cut them loose from white ball cricket.

Things which need to be improved on despite a 100 must still be communicated to Farhan. Else the situation will become the same as Babar/Rizwan scoring runs at their prime but the end result still being the team losing.

If we have other dynamic batters at 3 and 4 then these flaws can still be covered.
Let me get this straight.

A Pakistani batter scores the most runs by anyone in ICC T20 World Cup history for a single edition…

strikes at 160…

doesn’t even get the extra games of a semi or final…

…and we’re upset?

This is honestly comedy.

If an English or Aussie opener did that, it would be called a “blueprint for modern T20 batting.” Here, it’s “yeah but why not 200 strike rate?”

We don’t pause for history. We open Excel and start auditing vibes.

You want impact and win games ? Fix the guys striking at 105 in the middle. Fix the overs where momentum dies. When one guy is literally setting tournament records, maybe the logical response isn’t nitpicking, it’s backing him and asking the rest to reach even 80 percent of that level.

Sometimes the absurdity isn’t in the performance.

It’s in the reaction.

You're completely off the ball with your analysis. Both guys played great hands. Fakhar was the more aggressive one but Farhan also batted at a SR of 166, which was very much in line with the requirement of the match, and modern standards. Pakistan should have gotten 30 off the last 2 and if they did they could have ended up with a total in-excess of 230. Comparing Farhan to Babar is a fool's errand because Babar has never played this type of an innings at even 150 SR in a T20 WC, even at his peak.

Countries like West Indies, New Zealand all have players playing in the IPL. Pakistan players don't. That's a massive gap that Pakistan players have compared to other teams that has definitely had a major impact on their T20 cricket. But maybe you are too ignorant to see that very obvious thing.
60 ball 100 is slow on this belter
But for pakistani standards he is in don bradmon type form so cant complain

Why didn’t Rizwan do anything for him all this time? I asked you this question before. You shirk away from giving the correct answer.

Kohli also played just 6 innings in that wc, Similar to Farhan. Great achievement in such a short career
He has broken Kohli's record and now holds the record for hitting the most runs in a Men's T20 World Cup. And this is after having one match rained off and a possibility of not playing a Semi and Final.

What a player this guy is:

Some context:

Finn Allen: 107 sixes at 8.9 balls per six

Travis Head: 60 sixes at 14.2 ball per six

Abhishek Sharma: 93 sixes at 7.7 balls per six

Phil Salt: 83 sixes at 12.4 balls per six

These are the top 4 T20i openers in world cricket cricket right now.

I do not want to Criticize Farhan because hr was only decent batsman in our squad along with Fakhar

But he is decent at best. He took 10 extra balls to score 100 when it should have been 50 ball 100 given the platform and situation

his problem is that he waits for bad ball to punish and rest he does nt put away or try to put away. In modern t20 you gotta put bad balls away thats given but to get ahead of the game or even at par with your opponent you gotta take on good balla too. i hope he improves on that

Shanaka scored 30 ball 70 plus..thats the kind of innings we needed after 10 overs when had not lost a wicket.

an all out attack was needed after 10 overs. problem with getting out in 16th or 17th is that incoming batsmen fail 9 out of 10 times because of no time left. this was the precise problem with Rizbar opening pair

18 sixes in 6 matches (not 7)

That in itself is the record for most sixes by a Pakistani for one ICC T20i tournament I believe!

So what’s your point then? He should be discarded and replaced by someone more “selfless”?
You compared him to indian players who have the luxury of a more robust system, get a ton of money spent in them, in relation to them, Farhan is worth his weight in gold. Unless someone can step up and match his performance, he can play however he wants as long as he’s scoring runs at a high strike rate. You can’t have 9 players failing in a team of 11 players and pass the blame to Farhan.
You are not getting my point..I'm not saying to discard or disregard him..but don't make the same mistake of raising him to God status and hype him more than what he deserves aka what you did to Babar..To make a documentary for just hitting sixes against Bumrah is atrocious..Again now many people in Pakistan started throwing statements like he is bigger than Abhishek Sharma, he is the best T20 player..etc..your team is out of the tournament and all you do is just celebrating someone's Individual performance which added no value to the team..

When reviewing a flop movie, why would you focus your criticism on one of the few actors who’ve done an outstanding job?

How about the script, the director, the other actors? What about the cinematographer etc etc?

Farhan did his job very well. Do you want him to win the whole game by himself? How about the other batsmen who failed? What about the bowlers who couldn’t defend?

I don’t think people have forgotten about the team and focusing on him only. It may seem that way as you’re posting on a thread on Farhan. As a whole, the team is pretty ordinary and Farhan stands out not just in his team but the whole tournament. There definitely are deficiencies which you’ve pointed out and he has a long way to go but he’s done more than enough to solidify his position in the team and we need to build a team around him.
I just didn’t think your comparison with the Indian team was justified

Was going through all the stats of every edition of the T20 World Cup from 2007

Farhan has broken the most amount of sixes by a Pakistani player record in his first tournament

Others have not crossed 12 sixes in a tournament. Farhan’s numbers are better than Watson and Gayle’s numbers in 2014 Sri Lanka edition. 12 years ago but then again, our GOAT openers apparently Babar and Rizwan have numbers that challenge Hayden and Jaysuriya from 2007 (y)

A gritty hack.

Opposition teams so far have not given enough importance and have not worked enough on him.

Now that he's consistent with cow lashing runs, teams will plan accordingly.

For now congratulations for scoring highest number of runs in a single edition of World Cup with highest number of matches.
:inti

Keep working hard boy and also play less dots

He was the best thing we had in our pathetic performance overall

He played very well. Hoping he keeps his head down and keep improving. There's still room for improvement. I hope he doesn't succumb to stardom.

Exactly.

Nobody’s asking him to be dropped but it was a Rizwan/Babar like knock in their prime, which everyone also celebrated at that time.

What @daytrader has been saying.

End result so far is the same.

Exactly we scored 10 rpo for 10 12 overs. That was the platform. He should have batted the way fakhar did at end

Yes
But now I hope you realize how useless and pathetic Shadab is. Main reason for our loss along with Agha and Nawaz. Losing us every tournament with no batting zero bowling.

7 bowling options for the West Indies tonight and the rapist is playing too. Even if a few of them go for runs Windies have plenty of bowling options

Yes

I never said shadab is goat or anything. But i said that when u blame him start from the top with captain. Captain agha is bigger culprit. Nothing captaincy. Hiding when team needed batting and then coming out to bat in pp whole wc. Shameless

Only batsman to perform

What about middle order we have bunch of pathetic clowns

He carried while batting through out the tournament
He did really well and I hope he can carry on. Middle order or what ever they are should never play for Pak again.

I mean to say this culture of celebrating personal milestones needs to tone down.

I have never compared it but just quoted only the difference between the players approach.. Yesterday Sanju's innings is a best example..You are saying about Indian system, but the same Indian system never gave ample support to Sanju as much they gave to the other glamorous cricketers..Two matches before, he was not even in the team..The amount of pressure that is implied on him is unimaginable, considering that, if he failed or the match is lost, then there is no chance to come back to the team. .If any Pakistani player would have been in his situation, they would have just started cautiously and played for his own milestone to save himself. But Instead he played a measured aggressive shots and maintained the strike rate near 200. Also after playing long innings he ensured to win the match..These kind of things have to be credited to the players resilience and not the system..Again I reiterate, the system is made by the players and the system improves only if the player improves..

I don’t follow Indian cricket much but I get what you’re saying. It helps when you’re part of a winning team though. India had a streak of what 22 wins before they lost a game? That’s pretty impressive and didn’t happen by chance. IPL is the golden goose of Indian cricket and with the amount of money involved, you can be assured you will never run out of quality players.
PCB is a poorly run board with a lot of inefficiencies and mismanagement. Every now and again we get lucky and find a good talent but the system ruins it. Pakistani fans are not educated about cricket either as you can see from the support Babar Azam still has despite not doing anything meaningful for years.

When you consider all of the above, it feels unfair to pick out Farhan and point at his deficiencies. Even if he was selfish, he’s responsible for the bulk of the team’s success

I get that people want to look at bright spots and Farhan definitely has been one. But last ten matches , a 100 against Namibia - minnow bashing. 63 off 45 against England while it's a decent score , the balls consumed won't make it a top score. A 100 against a Srilankan side already knocked out of the tournament. 73 off 41 against USA , another minnow , Failed against India.

Just be careful to not overhype him to the roof and make him another babar.

He seems to be a capable bat. But he's touching 30 already. Not going to be a long term solution but the upcoming 50 over world cup and the T20 to follow that. Just 4 years in him really.

That's we have been always early years of a good talent is wasted here

Hopefully he still have 4 to 5 years left in him

If i was a Bangladeshi would call him a hack and blame poor bowling for his performance.

No I'm not so yes kind of envious he broke Kohli's record.

Why didn’t Rizwan do anything for him all this time? I asked you this question before. You shirk away from giving the correct answer.
ARK and Rizwan were going to pick him but LQ if I remember correctly used a Wildcard on him.

I can tell you this with 100% certainty

If you’re going to be negative against the best Pakistani player, at least use your brain.
Sahibzada Farhan is miles ahead of every Pakistani batsman and it’s even more impressive given how little support he had from the system. He’s a prime example of sheer determination and hard work. He’s grabbed every opportunity he was given with both hands.
I remember him spanking Bumrah so not sure what you want him to prove to you.
He’s the reason Pakistan team have been getting scores they have. The rest of the team is mediocre at best.
Scoring 2 centuries in a world cup in crucial matches and being the highest scorer is no joke. Which Indian batsman has done this?
If we have 2 more batsman like him, we would beat every other team in this world cup.
You could use this text to fit Babar. Or Misbah. And Babar, a slow T20 player, has faster 100s in T20s.

Excuses: "He is the only one who scored", "the rest of the team let him down", "you go after the highest scorer and not the others", "his shots went to fielders".

The last argument really gets me. Fielders job is to be in the way of the ball. The batsman's job is to clear them.

If Sahibzada Farhan had not played 10 out of 20 overs at an atrocious strike rate of 167, no one would have complained. Other teams have batsmen regularly hitting 200, even 220/230+ strike rates.

Perspective. He is a good, talented player, but it was a "minimize risk, get to milestone" kind of innings.

Fakhar carried him.

He seems to be a capable bat. But he's touching 30 already. Not going to be a long term solution but the upcoming 50 over world cup and the T20 to follow that. Just 4 years in him really.
I doubt he is 30. I saw his 2012 picture alongwith Ahmed Shezad where he already looked like 20+. That is 5 years off. Definitely not 15. He must be atleast 33 or more.

I’d rate Farhan’s knock against SL very highly for his record-breaking, but somewhat less for situational impact, as it lacked the late-inning killer blows a la Harry Brook or Sanju Samson.

He is just another average hack. A beast batsman against weak bowling attacks, but like a deer in the headlights when it comes to top teams. His record against SENA + India is mediocre, and he has a poor strike rate. Top teams have already figured him out.

His innings against lollipop Sri Lanka bowling attack is nothing much to talk about, he scored 100 after being dropped twice.
I am not saying he is bad, but he is just an okay player and a pretty good opener by Pakistani standards.

Farhan can easily go solo and play league cricket. He would be a hit in CPL. But didn't he fail in BCP?

He will go that route..

He's 29 on paper so most likely 32-33 in real life. He should look to maximise his earnings by playing in all the PLs and the SLs.

Terrific player, has the ability to send the pepper up the opposition noses.
In all my time on PP , u guys wanted an opener who can explode & disrupt early & take the game away, you got one now , good game to him & Kudos for the record !

He did really well and I hope he can carry on. Middle order or what ever they are should never play for Pak again.

I mean to say this culture of celebrating personal milestones needs to tone down.

Could just be the Saya Corp influence trying to capitalize on performances. He's represented by them as well

Onus is on him to capitalise on this momentum to have at least a 4 year run of peak form.

For far too long, our players made a name for 1-2 series and stopped improving.

Hopefully Farhan sets a good example and actually takes his game to the next level.
