Pakistan Super League: Kashmiri pacer ‘bowls over’ former Pak quickie Aaqib Javed with 144 kmph speed

Around 35,000 aspiring cricketers appeared for trials during a talent hunt programme conducted by Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Lahore Qalandars in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

17 players including fast bowler Salman Irshad who “constantly bowled at speed of 144kmph” were selected as part of the first phase of the Jazz Rising Stars program by Lahore Qalandars, Pakistani media reported.

Former Pakistan fast bowler and the Qalandars’ Director Cricket Operations Aaqib Javed was impressed with Salman and said he had the potential to represent Pakistan at the international level.

“I have set a target for him to increase his speed to 150 kph. The angle he creates will help him bowl well in the death overs,” Javed was quoted as saying by a Pakistani channel.

Javed said the youngster was being called to the Lahore Qalandars academy, where he will receive training.

“I am hopeful that from the Lahore Qalandars platform we will give Pakistan its first cricketer from Azad Kashmir,” he said.

Salman has set his eyes on the Pakistan Super League already.

“I bowled at 144 kph after which Aaqib bhai announced that he would take me to the Lahore Qalandars camp and also make me play in the PSL. I will make Azad Kashmir and Pakistan proud,” he said.

The trials were conducted Thursday at Mirpur and Muzaffarabad during the first phase of the program, which will now resume after Eid-ul-Azha.

According to the details provided by Qalandars management, the first stop of Jazz Rising Stars was Mirpur where over 15,000 aspirants tried their luck in the talent-hunt program.

“20 players were picked from trials at Mirpur and were taken to Muzaffarabad for the 2nd phase of Kashmir trials for the final selection,” said Atif Rana, CEO of Lahore Qalandars.

In Muzaffarabad , over 19,000 participants showed up for the trials.

“From these participants, 60 were shortlisted including 20 from Mirpur, and from these 60, the final 17 were selected before Jazz Rising Stars wrapped up for Eid-break,” Rana added.

Players selected from Azad Kashmir trials include Sohail Akhter, Malik Aswad, Ahmed Abbasi, M. Irfan, M. Mubashir, Hassan Raza, M. Yasir, Owais Butt, Salman Irshad, Fahad, Shadab, Usama, M. Bilal, Danyal, Shayan, Tayyab and Ayyan.

This is the second edition of Rising Stars program by Lahore Qalandars. Last year over 113,000 players appeared in trials across eight cities of Punjab.

Of them, after appearing at different stages, 15 selected players were sent to Australia for further experience, while four of them were picked for Qalandars’ PSL side.

I am sure the comments about Irshad will make you happy.

That said, the sooner they get him away from Javed the better!

Please stop trusting what these guys say. THey make up these news to create hype for the event.

You have also posted his picture here: http://www.pakpassion.net/ppforum/s...aining-Can-he-be-as-good-as-he-was-previously

He looks tall and lean- wonder if there is any footage of him bowling? Also, the fact he has already been training with them hardly suggests he has just been "discovered."

Not really a discovery. He's been around the scene. But this will give him spotlight.

Yes, but I am not sure he has had his speed measured until now. Have you watched him play? Do you rate him?

salman irshad is an old name and he is 23ish. He is known from a few years back.

If he is the he same guy that played a couple of domestic T20's for AJK a few years back, then he isn't someone that makes you get off your chair. He's a slinger, with the ability to vary length, but his seam position was god awful, Anwar Ali-esque.

If the requirement of the Pakistan T20 team is an unorthodox entity then that slinger from Larkana is a better option. Sadly, due to the incompetence of the PCB it seems he has given up on cricket.

Salman Irshad is generating good pace. Looks to be bowling in the 137-142 km/h, and rushing Kamran Ghulam. He can potentially bowl faster as he's losing a lot of balance when bowling.
Chief Destroyer your thoughts on him?

How was his seam position? I remember you mentioning it was terrible the last time you saw him (a few years ago).

It's a lot better. Definetly has potential to represent Pakistan in the shorter formats. However, that slinger from Larkana (one that was termed as a match winner by Wasim, can't remember his name) looked more impressive- as he had the ability to move the ball around whilst bowling in the late 130s to early 140s, prior to any professional training or coaching.

Good to hear, will see how he goes.

You aren't talking about the left arm slinger Afraz Khoso, by any chance?

Yep him.

This Ameer Hamza bowling right now for Sargodha also looks nippy. I'm very impressed with the standard of cricket, a lot of these players are better than the dross circling around in the domestic circuit.

So true about the standard of cricket.

Was just thinking the same about Ameer. As well as being nippy he looks pretty tall and has strong shoulders- plenty to work with.

Didn't watch. Is it still going on?

Doesn't look bad. Definitely has some burst. The pitch is ultra dead. Hard to say anything.

Excited to see him in PSL 2018 as he has been added in the LQ main squad in expansion draft

I hope this isn't another gimmick from LQ like Yasir Jan.

Aaqib Javed praises Salman Irshad’s bowling talent

KARACHI: Aaqib Javed, the head coach of Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Lahore Qalandars, has hailed the talent of Salman Irshad, the team’s new bowling sensation from Kashmir.

Aaqib said that the moment he saw Salman bowling in the nets, he realised that this bowler has potential to perform for Pakistan cricket.

“I saw him bowling at 145kmph during Lahore Qalandars’ Rising Stars trials in Azad Kashmir and that very moment I decided to pick him,” Aaqib said.

“There’s no doubt that after fine tuning and some training, he’ll be able to bowl at speed of more than 150kmph,” the former bowler and member of Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup winning squad added.

He said that the inclusion of a player from Kashmir is matter of pride not only for him, but also for the Lahore Qalandars’ team, and for the PSL as well.

“Finding him was like a dream coming true for us,” Aqib said.

“We wanted a bowler of this kind, a bowler with strong action and pace, a bowler who can change mindset of the players from that region,” the former Pakistan pacer said of Irshad.

22-year-old Salman Irshad was included in Lahore Qalandars extended squad earlier as 21st member of the team by the franchise. He is inducted as talent hunt player by the franchise.

Salman was spotted during Lahore Qalandars’ trials in Kashmir. He is currently in Australia under Qalandars’ players development program and playing for Hawksberry club.

Do people who have seen Salman bowl agree with the statement that he is currently bowling 145 and can increase to 150's? He definitely has a solid physique so the potential is there with some good advice and coaching.

Most of the guys we hear about never go anywhere. Lets see these guys play in the PSL or even FC cricket.

No, that's pushing it. He does have some pace.

Very true. They get hyped up by the PSL franchises and then disappear. Lahore Qalandars particularly do this.

I saw Ehthisham Sultan play last year and thought that guy had something and since then he has totally disappeared. These guys need to play FC and the pressure and exposure of the PSL, they are getting neither.

Ghulam Mudassar another one hyped up by LQ. Now nowhere to be seen.

Think a case of self-fulfilling prophecies! Hope is that by hyping them they will become amazing.

Lots need to happen before that happens.

He's back in pak after successful stint in Australia. Locals are queuing up to receive him☺ he must be 150 kph now after proper training and coaching in aus far away from aquib

Hmmm
With all the hype I suppose he will play at least some of the matches.

Curious...

This makes PSL good to watch. So see young talent.

Has been the best bowler in KPL so far. 13 wickets in 5 matches at an average of 13.46 and economy of 8.75 in a high scoring tournament. Bowled some decent pace and good yorkers and slower balls at the death.
