Sami Aslam is a highly impressive individual. However, his release shot against spin is the big mow. It is particularly risky on bouncy wickets.

I think he ought to play with the spin against off-spinners and over cover. Or if there's no spin, hit them back over their head.

I think there's a wider issue. Younis' shot was inappropriate in the second innings in Brisbane.

What should Sami's (and others') release shot be especially on bouncier pitches?

Younis was error in judgment. I don't think there's a wider issue there. Sami yes. His release shot is the slog to mid wicket. Having said that, if we are batting first In Melbourne and he is still there by the time Lyon comes on to bowl, he will have done his job.

He can just rotate the strike. Maybe back away and cut through point as a release shot.

What I meant was the team need to understand their normal release shots might be more risky on these pitches rather than just Younis.

Agreed; he needs to stay there until Lyon comes on. Minimum to be honest. He needs to bat long.

I sometimes wonder whether our own players think this much about their game and put in the effort

For some of our players over the years it sure doesn't seem like they ever do

Just think about how much more effective Abdul Razzaq would have been had he done what any self respecting seam bowler would have done- keep the seam upright. Instead he spent more time in TV studios moaning about his supposed bad treatment.

Stop overly criticizing him.

Seems like people have a 100x zoom on his every move.

The best opener we ever had after Saeed Anwar.

Simple solution. Make a positive decision and get Sharjeel in. Sami will not give anyone sleepless nights

Sharjeel gives nobody sleepless nights in real cricket with no off side game.

We need a big score not 25 off 18.

Don't you think that's a bit too generous, if Sharjeel plays he's ought to survive no more than 2 overs.

He uses his feet very well against spin, so not just restricted to that slog-sweep.

Afridi lasted more than 2 overs. If he can so can Sharjeel.

We have too many grinders in the team. We need one who will look to attack the opposition. Sharjeel is that man.

I agree with the Pakistan team needing a dasher but Sharjeel isn't the man.

First and foremost he doesn't have a basic defensive technique to fall back on if all doesn't go to plan.

Secondly, I don't think he has the fitness to last more than a day fielding.

This guy sami is one of the patient and old school openers...I liked his and amir's innings at brisbane, I would say more than asad's....the only issue is he does not rotate strike properly, he is so saeed anwar like - irritating for an Indian fan like me ( because of anwar's knocks against India :) )but good for cricket...he should be more aggresive. A fighting 50 from him will take Pak to atleast 300-325, as he can take the pressure for 20-30 initial crucial overs for Pak.

You wont get big scores with 10 runs of 90 deliveries

His innings like that have occurred in the toughest circumstances. Mark my word, he's a key player for us.

Sharjeel has a number of basic flaws. He won't do anything significant in tests against top class opposition away.

A quick fire 40-50 will do just fine. If he can demolish Mark Wood bowling at 92-95 mph in England, he can do the same to Starc as well. Sharjeel plays the cut and pull shot well and those will be key shots in Australia

Do not insult Saeed Anwar, he never poked around for 10 runs of 90 deliveries.

There are no "key" shots in Australia...

How can you draw crosses with a OD innings and a test innings. There are a large number of flaws with in Sharjeel's batting which can be exploited in no more than 3 deliveries.

You're comparing an innings on a Trent Bridge road in an ODI compared to an Aussie test. They're incomparable.

We need a big score not 25 off 18.

I might have missed the part where Sami scored a match winning double hundred

Technique is not everything, you can over come technical flaws if you have the heart to take the attack to the opposition

He's played 8 tests 😂 No patience around here. If some of the "fans" here were selectors, we would be ranked 10th in tests.

Oh my god its 1am, am I dreaming or are people actually making great use of the facebook style of posting with regards to their arguments

See under: Chanderpaul

Watch Chanderpaul when he actually plays the ball and not when he merely stands and gets ready to face the ball.

You can't make 11K runs with a bad technique. Chanderpaul learned to stand like that because he believes that he has better sight of the ball but when he is ready to strike the ball, he is orthodox and importantly perfectly still.

Chanderpaul's stance was only "slightly" unorthodox when he started out back in 1994, it got exaggerated over the years as his experience grew.

Even if we take the issue on face value how many others have an unorthodox technique?

Point is that we shouldn't justify to young batsmen that techique isn't important, even Chanderpaul didn't bat like this when he as younger.

Young Pakistani batsmen should try to learn or even emulate Indian Batsmen instead of Chanderpaul in my view

This is what happens when you are desperate.

You consider anyone outside the team who can slog a couple of balls as the perfect opener for TESTS.

The irony couldn't be stronger.
