Mickey Arthur quotes from a Sky Sports interview:

"What's pleased me the most is the consistency shown, the discipline shown in all departments. Discipline in our bowling, we were great in our fielding and then the discipline shown with the bat, from everybody, 1 to 11, it was magnificent, that's everything we've trained for so couldn't be happier"

"I was so excited about the tour of England. We've been working for 6 weeks, we finished the PSL and went straight into camp with our Test team. We got green wickets prepared at GSL and used Dukes' balls"

"We had two weeks as a Test unit practising lengths, batsmen playing late, practising a lot of technique that we'd need here. We then came here and had the games against Kent, some good prep time leading into that, had a couple days rained off but that wasn't the end of the world. Northants, we were good, we built up"

"Ireland Test match was great for us, it was a Test and the boys were put under pressure by Ireland at times which was good and that lead to this Test match. All in all, we've been going for six weeks, preparing for Day 1 at Lord's"

"We came in tough, we came in hard because we needed to change the cricket culture a little bit. We had a regime of fitness standards we've put in place, we've got certain criteria that guys need to fulfil, you have to be able to field to be able to be selected particularly in white ball cricket"

"It was just a more conscious effort on fitness and fielding, as we said, batting and bowling, skills are there in abundance. I always use a catchphrase 'We give them the roots to grow and the wings to fly'. Roots to grow means we equip them technically, we give them the structure, we give them the game plans and the wings to fly is their execution, within their own characters. You don't ever want to stunt that growth, their flare is what makes them so exciting"

"England are a very good cricket team, they've got some very good players. I watched a lot of their cricket in Australia, we thought that if we used our new ball properly, we could get into the top order. Once Buttler was selected, which we thought was a good selection, it's a dangerous selection that could take the game away. You got Stokes, Bairstow and Buttler which is a dangerous engine room if the ball's old. We wanted to try and get to them with the new ball and it sort of worked out. We saw for an hour and a bit yesterday what Buttler can do, so very pleased that the new ball working this morning"

"(Laughing) We've had a chat (with Sarfaraz) about that (shot), got it off our chest as we always do. He's a great leader, he really is. One thing I've said about our dressing room is that it's a group of friends. Those players are friends. I keep saying to Sarfaraz, this is his team now, he's gotta lead it. He's the senior player, the captain. They respect him, they play for him. He's got the balance right between being a leader and a friend. The way he interacts off field with them is magnificent but he has that line when he gets on the field, that it's now business. He's struck that balance perfectly"

"More of the same (is needed at Headingley). Prepare properly. We'll enjoy today, have a day off tomorrow, travel to Leeds the next day and then everything stays exactly the same. For us, it's a very young side so our consistency is gonna be an area that we need to work on"

"What this win does for us, though, is that it solidifies the direction we want to take the team. It gives confidence to the dressing room that they're being backed and it gives confidence to the dressing room that this is the brand of cricket we have to play. This is the preparation that gets us results. So, couldn't be happier at the moment"

Hopefully the usual suspects reads this.

MMHS What did you make of his leadership in the 1st Test

He is definitely a good captain, probably among best within available. But, in cricket, Captain has to justify his spot in XI (in any game, unless it's like Davis Cup or Ryder Cup with non playing Captain); and he has to be good at one core area so that he can lead from the front - this is one of the reason Brearly stepped down himself, otherwise TCCB would have carried him for few more years.

Any way, Sarfraz kept very well in 1st Test, which is enough for him to be justified in XI, despite that horrible shot. As long as he is keeping decent at Test level, he can lead the side without costing it, even batting at # 8. But, average of even 40 isn't enough for me for a Test WK, unless bowlers are not confident on him - Amir's kiss actually indicates PAK bowlers' expectation & confidence on their WK.

Great leader but not a great sportsman , needs to work hard on his fitness and keeping skill. Improved fitness is the key to improved keeping and batting.

Good captain but all the great captains of all made their team on playing merit. If you are being a 100 percent honest does Sarfraz make the team on playing merit ?

This isn't me being a hater. This is just the honest truth. He kept well in the last game but that should be the norm and not something we need to point out.

I hope he steps up his performances with bat and gloves.

Right now it's 10 players + 1 boi who can captain, so not really a playing XI.

i can see alot of people's ego getting hurt with this statement of mickeys

Best coach for Pakistan. We've not had someone who understands us as well as Mickey. Him and Sarfraz are really a great duo.

He will step up with the bat soon

This has been very evident...

We will see how good a leader he is in the next few months. Playing quality teams and a World Cup to come. If he can perform and captain us to some wins I'll happily admit I was wrong on him. Let's see what happens. T20s isn't a way to judge a captain.
