Another super-fight in the Middleweight division I have been looking forward to for a while between two of the best 160 lb fighters in the division, both also hold world championships currently.

Titles at stake: WBA (Super), IBF WBC, The RING and Lineal Middleweight Championship of the World; the same title held by the legendary fighters such as Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Jake Lamotta and Bernard Hopkins.

The fight will be held in Vegas and Canelo will predominately enjoy support during Cinco De Mayo weekend; as arguably P4P no.1 and after defeating the likes of GGG, Miguel Cotto, Lara and Chavez at MW he will start as the favourite.

But Jacobs is no push-over, many observers argue he also defeated GGG but was not given the decision but one can't deny he pushed him to the limit in that fight either way and after beating the much avoided Sergiy Derevyanchenko, Mora, Truax and Quillin his resume at 160 lb is an excellent one.

Jacobs will enjoy a height and reach advantage over Canelo and potentially size as well, he is also known to come into his bouts heavy after re-hydration, he famously didn't weigh in for IBF's second day weight in for the GGG fight vacating the title; there's a chance the IBF title could be left vacant for both men as Canelo also comes in very heavy on fight night.

Stylistically Jacobs is an excellent all round fighter, he packs a serious punch with a 78% KO ratio, can fight on the inside, is evasive defensively and also uses his feet really well on the back-foot; his heart and determination is also unprecedented, in 2011 in the midst of his Boxing career he suffered from a rare form of Bone Cancer, he went under the knife with just a 40% chance of survival, he came through it and was still paralysed being told he would never Box again, but recovered from that obstacle to win the MW world championship; hence why he is called the Miracle Man. How will Canelo adjust to his opponents size, good movement and hand speed ?

Canelo after his defeat to Floyd has become a more rounded fighter, his counter punching ability has never been in question but in recent years he has improved his foot work, conditioning and also shown an ability to adapt in the ring, offensively and defensively he is sound and this will be the biggest challenge for Jacobs, will he be able to compete when it comes to ring generalship ?

Cpt. Rishwat I know you have watched both fighters compete against GGG, what do you make of this fight ?

This is a great watch KingKhanWC , you can catch the fight on sky sports I believe; for those who don't have the subscription or tend to watch it online or on a different platform you can see it via NOW TV the day pass should be about 8 quid I think.

Ring walk will be around 5am, the card will begin at 12:30am; other fights on the under card:

John Ryder (27-4) vs Bilal Akkawy (20-0-1) - interim WBA super-middleweight
Lamont Roach (18-0) vs Jonathan Oquendo (30-5) - WBO international super featherweight
Vergil Ortiz Jr (12-0) vs Mauricio Herrera (24-8) - super lightweight
Sadam Ali (27-2 vs Anthony Young (20-2) - welterweight

Easy win for canelo... Who should really be rematching GGG.

Don't think this is an easy fight for him at all.

The fight with GGG is expected in September providing Canelo beats Jacobs.

GGG also signed with DANZ, it was shocking to see him take Abel Sanchez behind the barn; he will be announcing his new trainer at 6.30pm today.

Should be a fascinating contest between two excellent fighters.

I can see Jacobs walking in weighing much more than Canelo, so it's highly unlikely he will be knocked out. For Jacobs to win this , he needs to work, throw a lot of punches and not drop his work rate. Although its Jacobs is the American fighter ,Canelo will likely get impresse the judges more. It may just come down to the power shots, whichever fighter lands more may take it on points.
shaz619 I believe it's on Sky Sports Main Event. What is the undercard? Anyone worth watching?

If Jacobs does come in heavier it plays into his favour because he is naturally the bigger middleweight and I have read reports that Canelo enforced another re-hydration clause for Jacobs on the second day weigh in but Jacobs allegedly came in 3lb heavier over 170; the fine could be up to a million, it's weird that Oscar is speaking about this openly when contractually he shouldn't be.

I agree with you, Jacobs either has to press for a stoppage or work more but his style has always been to land the lustier blows rather then be a guy who out-works you so it will be interesting to see what his approach will be here.

Yes mate it's on sky sports main event, this is the under card:

John Ryder (27-4) vs Bilal Akkawy (20-0-1) - interim WBA super-middleweight
Lamont Roach (18-0) vs Jonathan Oquendo (30-5) - WBO international super featherweight
Vergil Ortiz Jr (12-0) vs Mauricio Herrera (24-8) - super lightweight
Sadam Ali (27-2 vs Anthony Young (20-2) - welterweight

Ortiz Jr is a great talent to keep an eye on and he's in the fight with a real name in Herrera who many believe lost controversially to Danny Garcia, Sadam Ali is a great fighter to watch and Ryder / Bilal should be a good fight on paper

I suppose one great weapon Canelo has is his powerful bodyshots which will landed reguarly will weaken Jacobs taking away any advantage of being the larger man. I wouldn't bet against Jacobs in this one, he showed great heart and skills against GGG and we know what he's been though in life, making him a strong person going forward.

Thanks Ill make sure to watch Ortiz Jr and nice to see another boxer with a Yemeni background on a big stage, been too long since the Prince retired.

I never actually heard of Danny Jacobs before that fight, so don't know that much about him, but what I will say is that I thought he won against GGG on the night. I am also a big fan of Canelo, but as both fighters have shown great chins, and fast hand speed, I would think Jacobs should be a slight favourite as he probably has a longer reach. Tough to call though as Canelo is techically a better boxer than GGG so he might find gaps in Jacobs defence which the Russian wasn't capable of.

Not a Boxing man, but I knew Canelo would win. In fact, didn't expect it to go full distance. Canelo is the best middle weight boxer now, and an aging "Money" might not stand against him if he decides to fight again.

Contrary to what some would have thought it was a pretty competitive and close fight, Canelo purely on his resume alone deserves to be called the best P4P fighter on the planet; there are folk that will say he has found himself on the right side of the judges decision at times in fights with GGG , Cotto and Lara but he has a great CV beyond that and no one has ever dominated him besides Floyd

In the end our prediction was true, it all came down to how active Jacobs could be; it may have been a ploy but the lack of inactivity and also Canelo's class cost him in the end although he held the centre much better in the second half, I could have scored it for either man by a point or two and both were tentative given the respect they had for each other; wasn't the best performances from either fighter but it was still an enjoyable fight to watch. Surely no one can question Canelo's standing as P4P no.1 now? as for Jacobs he is a big MW and he has stated he could be moving to SMW soon which will be great to see.

Right now I feel as if on his day there is only one man capable of beating Canelo over 12 rounds and that is Billy Joe Saunders, my only ? is, he would have to make sure he doesn't get hit for a massive chunk of the fight / being evasive similar to Fury's performance vs Wlad bringing down your oppositions work-rate with the feints because his power while decent isn't going to overly trouble Canelo and he can't risk loading up with his punches either. But BJS has the technical ability to pull it off.

As for Canelo his next opponent options for September have been listed as Andrade (WBO champ), GGG, Callum Smith and also interestingly enough Kovalev; there is an ambition for him to climb the weight-classes.

I think most likely he will face Andrade and become the undisputed champion, the first since Bernard Hopkins I believe at 160 lb. Then GGG 3 in May next year because am not sure the fight will happen in December.

But if Canelo decides to face Callum Smith, he has shown an interest to come over here in England to in September then GGG could face Andrade and regain a world title at 160 to set up a Canelo / GGG 3 in 2020.

By the way did you check out the KO of Ortiz Jr ?!!! that was chilling mate! he has only had a small number of fights yet no one has ever been able to deal with Herrera like that not even Danny Garcia; he is very young but showed so much maturity in the way he set up his power punches with the feints and body work he wasn't just throwing shots, there will be pressure for him to fight for a world title etc but they need to take their time with him because there is no rush at all.

Saddam Ali lost unfortunately, he peaked with that huge upset over Cotto and then it was unfortunate Golden Boy fed him to a monster when he was ill prepared for it in Mungia; since then he hasn't been the same, am not sure he can bounce back from this defeat

Agree, Canelo would be a big favourite this time and is a much improved fighter and bigger to in terms of size; I don't see it happening because he is close to his peak and weight would also be an issue. Floyd is more likely to face Khabib :yk3

After the first couple of rounds it was pretty evident Canelo would win by points. Credit to him he was very good and very strong. Yeah im sure he will clean up the 160 and then look for another challenge. Imo he is the real P4P King because he can win in many different divisions.

Ortiz Jr looks special. I guess a strong opponent may have defended himself better but the chap was taking a beating which would have become worse, so good on the ref for stopping it. I would like him to step up against an experienced fighter and we will know a lot more then.

I have read comments from respected pundits that Andrade is a tough fight for him stylistically, have not watched this bloke fight before admittedly but that is interesting will have to check some of his performances out. Canelo is already a Hall of Fame fighter imo and is on the brink of ATG status. Would you go watch him at Anfield vs Callum Smith :afridi mind you that's not an easy fight for him either, I would be interested in this also because I have never been to Liverpool before and people praise the city, may need extra security though ;)

Agree about Ortiz, defo needs more fights like these before making the step up

Canelo gets better with every fight. He has everything, great chin, great speed, great counter punching, great feinting, great head movement, great body punching, good ring iq, excellent cutting off the ring, paces himself well.

Don't think anyone out there can beat him. I would love to see a Floyd rematch.

Lol Mayweather victory over Canelo looks more impressive with time.

Khabib isn't a boxer, might be a great fighter in his style, but he has absolutely no chance against Mayweather. In fact, no such fighter from UFC, MMA or Kick Boxing has any chance against a top boxer in boxing ring for similar weight category. Kabib's only chance is if somehow he can "lock" Mayweather to one of his Judo or Wrestling grapple, but I doubt he'll ever be able to catch Money. Flyod will dance around him, avoiding close contacts and hurting with quick jabs and check hooks from distance, tiring him running around, then he'll unleash a series of fast & painful punches & upper cuts on decisive targets. He'll be ~43 by that fight, but still I think unless that fight is fixed to last long, Khabib will be KO by 4th round unless Referee stops it even before that for a TKO.

This is precisely why I believe Khabib is a more likely opponent brother, low risk high reward, it would be shocking to see Floyd face a monster like Canelo or any of the top welters such as Spence or Crawford, there is a tiny possibility he could opt for Manny rematch but after his sensational performance vs Broner I doubt it; it's a true testament to his personified ATG status that so far out his prime the man is able to mix it amongst the best welters in the world even now and is not an easy fight for any of the champions.

But when you are Floyd, why take on a challenge when you can make so much from exhibitions and MMA opponents. He is a very shrewd promoter and businessman no doubt about it

He deserves credit for that win and many fans demanded that fight at the time but Canelo is a completely different fighter right now and much improved

Between 160-168 it's hard to see anyone beating him, Andrade is not a good match up but I think Billy Joe has the tools to cause him serious issues. Beyond 168, he is more likely to suffer a defeat against fighters who are not only technically sound but much bigger then him
