Another super-fight in the Middleweight division I have been looking forward to for a while between two of the best 160 lb fighters in the division, both also hold world championships currently.
Titles at stake: WBA (Super), IBF WBC, The RING and Lineal Middleweight Championship of the World; the same title held by the legendary fighters such as Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Jake Lamotta and Bernard Hopkins.
The fight will be held in Vegas and Canelo will predominately enjoy support during Cinco De Mayo weekend; as arguably P4P no.1 and after defeating the likes of GGG, Miguel Cotto, Lara and Chavez at MW he will start as the favourite.
But Jacobs is no push-over, many observers argue he also defeated GGG but was not given the decision but one can't deny he pushed him to the limit in that fight either way and after beating the much avoided Sergiy Derevyanchenko, Mora, Truax and Quillin his resume at 160 lb is an excellent one.
Jacobs will enjoy a height and reach advantage over Canelo and potentially size as well, he is also known to come into his bouts heavy after re-hydration, he famously didn't weigh in for IBF's second day weight in for the GGG fight vacating the title; there's a chance the IBF title could be left vacant for both men as Canelo also comes in very heavy on fight night.
Stylistically Jacobs is an excellent all round fighter, he packs a serious punch with a 78% KO ratio, can fight on the inside, is evasive defensively and also uses his feet really well on the back-foot; his heart and determination is also unprecedented, in 2011 in the midst of his Boxing career he suffered from a rare form of Bone Cancer, he went under the knife with just a 40% chance of survival, he came through it and was still paralysed being told he would never Box again, but recovered from that obstacle to win the MW world championship; hence why he is called the Miracle Man. How will Canelo adjust to his opponents size, good movement and hand speed ?
Canelo after his defeat to Floyd has become a more rounded fighter, his counter punching ability has never been in question but in recent years he has improved his foot work, conditioning and also shown an ability to adapt in the ring, offensively and defensively he is sound and this will be the biggest challenge for Jacobs, will he be able to compete when it comes to ring generalship ?
