Can England avoid an innings defeat is the first question that springs to mind :P

Stokes/Bairstow/Butler all 3 are capable of playing aggressively. Root anyways plays positively. They all should counterattack. Maybe they can surprise themselves.

Cricket Australia Statement

Players from the Australian and England teams all had PCR Covid-19 Tests after play yesterday and all results have come back negative.

The families of both sets of players also had PCR tests yesterday and all returned a negative test.

The England team’s support staff and their family members who tested positive after PCR tests yesterday are in isolation.

Play in the third Vodafone men’s Ashes Test match resumes at the MCG at 10.30am today.

They probably should. The thought of that 4 all coming positively at Australia is a lot scarier than that 4 all coming out trying to bat time & ending up sitting ducks.

It's a low scoring contest so far- even a session of attacking cricket can change the complexion of such matches relatively quickly. One session won't win it, when you're coming out of a hole. But they'll drag it back even & change the pressure dynamic back to anyone's game & bowlers tiring/frustrated.

After all that commentary talk of an England fightback, Starc rips through Stokes' stumps.

This match and series will be over well before Tea.

Why doesn't the hypocrite Ian Chappell demand England be banned from touring Australia for a while?

what do you guys think is Stokes better than Flintoff ?

I think Flintoff was arguably the best all rounder England ever had. If I make my best England XI I would have him in the side

Lol, you must have heard of sir Ian botham

Very impressive spell by Boland. Nice line and length. Great channel. Good zip of the surface. Good carry.

Botham is better than both by the width of a street.

Stokes v Freddie? Pretty close going. I'd take Freddie with the ball every time. Stokes is probably a better bat.

This is just humiliating. England should really pack up and go home. I can guarantee Bangladesh would have played better than this. This is absurd

Incredible rhythm spell. 6 for 5. One of those days a bowler lands every single ball perfectly.

Joe Root is not that guy.

This current England team is a low mid tier team which would struggle against Pakistan and SL.

Root doesn't belong to that category. He drew him forward with that length. Let us give credit where it is due.

He has bowled fantastically- all credit to him. What I meant is he has simply done the basics of quality fast bowling. No swing or sheer pace - just a fantastic length and bowling in the perfect areas. Superb bowling. Full credit.

People underestimate how important warm ups are.

3 games into the tour and series is already over.

Boland is not really blowing unplayable deliveries. He is just hitting the length and line in the same way Anderson was doing but England batsmen are the ones playing him so badly you have to question if they are mentally fit to continue to tour

He is just a journeyman. England would make a 3rd team club cricketer look unplayable at the moment.

He's bowled well but this England team is done and you can tell the players know it.

This series will end careers.

I called Root getting out in the first hour and the match being over in the first session :root

Root should step down as captain after this Test and allow England to rebuild.

Just because he bowled the same length doesn't mean they are identical. He has a nice dip and also zip from the surface. It was an impressive spell.

Yes but I can guarantee any other test side even minnows would not allow him to be 6-5 in 4 overs

This is so dramatic. At one point England fancied themselves taking a lead and putting pressure on Australia in 4th innings. Now losing by an innings and 14 runs.

winning a test series in australia is like winning 5 ICC world cups

What's the point of another 2 tests? It happens all the time when Eng is visiting Aus. Those tests may be useful for stats padding, but meaningless.

What a hollow victory.

England are absolute ****.

Dominating victory for Australia. Why is it hollow. They buried them. They will want to keep doing the same in the remaining tests. England was expected to lose anyway. But not this badly though.

Root must be stripped of captaincy.

Humiliation. An ignominious defeat.

8th lowest total for England in Tests vs Australia.

I have seen some one-sided Ashes series. This probably is one of the worst. Anyone knows how many sessions were won by England in this series?

A complete and utter humiliation. England have been embarrasing. They have played like genuine minnows. Heads must roll. Start with Silverwood. What has he done? Then they need to replace Root as captain - he needs to just bat. I think they need to go to Alistair Cook and coax him out of retirement for 2 years - he is the only solution. I am very much one for never relying on old players. But England have no young openers. Cook needs to Captain and open the innings for a year or so to guide England through this dodgy period.

I can already bet that if root had played Broad, England would have gotten Australia out on a lower score

50-70 runs lead would not have been enough to put any pressure. I don't think Eng was in a position to take a big lead any time.

I don't care about being one of the worst, but Ashes in Aus is pretty much one-sided. When it is in Eng then it is much better. I think it should be 3 tests in Aus.

Imagine Root having a normal year instead of massive year. England would have lost more matches.

LOL hahahah.Scott the trundler Boland without much skills got 6 wickets.
This England team is really bad. They should just kicked out every single player apart from Joe root in batting department.

As bad a captain as Root is, it is hard to watch him doing the press. Feel for him. Bowling is so so. Not overly terrible. But batting is abysmal.

Imagine scoring 267 in a potentially series-winning Ashes Test and winning by an innings.

I don't think Eng is as bad as they have looked in Aus. Aus is likely to sweep all teams except India at home. In fact, they have swept NZ, Pakistan, etc recently. But you have to show some fight.

England had an opportunity to wear this attack down twice. Malan/Root partnerships. But they failed to capitalize on their starts twice.

It's just beyond me.How did india won the 2nd series in Australia with mediocre players.
Australia bik gaya tha.
