Watch out for this lad. He is a fine talent, and like Saim Ayub he has his priorities right when it comes to modern approach.

InshaAllah, the Shaheen Parwaz brand of Pakistani batsmen is starting to build up. He will be one of them I recon.

The top 3 of Pakistan are all fine talents. But Shamyl Hussain will break into the Pakistan team before the other as he's got series ability.

Hope he's included in the mix for LOIs. We finally need to move on from the torture of slow, old-school kind of openers that have dominated our cricket for last decade and half

I rate shahzaib higher but Shamyl is also quite talented with a very good backing and an educated background.

Even though he failed in the first two games he still went in with the same intent it shows that he is a confident and has the backing off the coaching staff.

But such type of players never succeed in International cricket specially if they are from Pakistan ,
Imran Nazir
Imran Farhat
Kamran Akmal
Umar Akmal
Ahmed Shehzad
Haider Ali

He needs to learn from the fate of those talented players who never made it big.

Kamran Akmal alone has achieved more than Babar and Rizwan put together

Hahahah. Yes at dropping catches and being a laughing stock. As a cricketer he is leagues below the likes of Babar and our greatest wk in rizwan. The comparison is embarrassing to say the least.

Things Kamran Akmal has done which Babar and Rizwan will never achieve:

-Win a T20 World Cup
-Win a Test Series against India (home)
-Draw a Test series v India (away)
-Win a Test match in India (away)
-Win an ODI series v India (away)
-Win an IPL (Rajasthan Royals)
-Score a Test Century against India, win the game on the basis of it
-Play a 50 over World Cup semi final

These are facts. Babar and Rizwan will never achieve these things

Disappointing. Shamyl picked but in Supplementary category. Meaning he will most likely not play any matches.

Lol 6 out of the 8 is to do with India and we don't play India. According to this logic Kamran akmal is better than ABD because ABD can never win a t20 world cup. Losing a world cup is semi final is an achievement as well.

Both Babar and Rizwan are miles better than the hacks mentioned there.

I hope the kid doesn't have a fanboy crush on RizBar & wishes to emulate himself on them like Abdullah Technique. Because if he attempts to do that he will ruin all his potential & simply will become a typical minnow bashing con artist.

Really like the look of this guy. For me he is the batsman in this U19 team, even though there are some other good talents as well. He has an elegance to his batting which only those lankier fellows have. And a beautiful bat swing which helps him hit the ball long.

Ok so who is Pakistan’s arch rival in this era? What are Babar and Rizwan’s achievements against them?

If don't think anyone can change his technique this drastically at this stage of their career especially when it's working so well for him. Don't need to worry about that. Some of these young fellows are very ambitious and are not about to copy anyone. Saim is an example. Shamyl seems like another one with the same mentality.

enjoyed highlights of the match. Impressive shot making. Hope he continues to make progress and aims to be an all format player

Shamyl Hussain's strike rate in the ACC U19 Asia Cup 2023 is 115.28, which is the second highest in the tournament.

From meeting Brian Lara to facing Aamir Jamal in the nets – Shamyl Hussain’s cricket journey continues

Lahore, 12 January 2024:

Shamyl Hussain, a lanky southpaw hailing from Islamabad, has grown up loving the game as he inherited the passion from his father. Shamyl will be a key part of the Pakistan U19 team in the upcoming ICC Men’s U19 World Cup at the top of the order.

He was introduced to the game by his father, who featured in one List A game for Islamabad region in the One Day National Tournament 2001-02 and had to give up on his dream due to a back injury.

In a chat with PCB Digital, he talked about how he started club cricket: “My first memory of playing the game is at six or seven years of age as my father used to throw plastic balls at me. I joined Shalimar Cricket Club as an 11-year-old and never looked back. A lot of first-class players used to turn up for training and I was pushed to get involved as well. I remember facing Aamir Jamal in the nets quite often. It felt tough but that exposure helped strengthen my game.”

Shamyl represented Islamabad region in PCB U13 Inter regional T20 Tournaments in 2017 and 2018. In December 2019, he smashed a brilliant ton for Northern U16 against Balochistan U16 in a three-day game where no batter from either team crossed 50.

Like most left-handed batters, he too grew up being impressed with Brian Lara’s style and flair. Luckily, his father arranged a meeting for him with the West Indies great, who was visiting Islamabad for work commitments.

Shamyl said: “I’ve always followed Brian Lara. We used to have videos of his batting and I’ve watched his unbeaten 400 many times. I was asked to observe his technique and shots. The biggest compliment I’ve received in my life is him (Lara) saying that I bat really well.”

Shamyl scored 264 runs at an average of 52 in the National U19 Cup 2021-22 which led to him being called up for Pakistan U19 in the home series against Bangladesh U19. After sitting out due to a broken thumb, Shamyl got his chance in the away series against Bangladesh U19, where he impressed with his audacious strokeplay.

He shone with the bat against Sri Lanka U19 in the home series in late 2023 where he notched 326 runs in the five-match series at an average of 65 and a strike-rate of 95. He also bagged the player of the match award in the win over Afghanistan U19 in the ACC U19 Asia Cup.

Talking about the expectations from the U19 WC, Shamyl stated, “We all know South Africa offers bouncy tracks and a bit of seam so we have trained accordingly in the camp. The net sessions emulated those conditions. I’m confident that our team is going to put a great performance in the World Cup. There is a lot of talent in the squad and fingers crossed for a good performance.”

Let's see how Shamyl does in the U19 WC.

At this point, anyone scoring above 20 makes us all interested!

Shamyl Looked scratchy out there and in the end lost his wicket.

Bit of wind is also making it difficult for players out there.

Shamyl Hussain contributed 37 runs off 59 balls in the ICC U19 World Cup 2024 Group D match against Nepal U19s. Although he fell short of reaching fifty, his innings played a pivotal role in giving Pakistan a strong start and forming a partnership of over 50 runs with Shahzaib Khan.

Shamyl Hussian played a crucial anchoring role, exhibiting a masterful display with a brilliant fifty, steering Pakistan U19 to a convincing 10-wicket victory over New Zealand U19 in the group match of the ICC U19 World Cup 2024. His unbeaten score of 54 (66) was the bedrock of the team's successful pursuit of the target.

What a talent he is. Certainly would have uneased some nerves among current Pakistani players.

I’m tired

Im tired of hoping talent actually comes through for Pakistan

I’m tired of talent coming through, and then played out of position so that it can never truly develop

I’m tired of not having the patience for talent to develop, and the fans not giving them the time they need to make sure that their favourites are not disturbed

I’m simply tired.

Shamyl is a good player but he looked out of form throughout the U19 Asia cup and the first 2 games of the World cup but the inning yesterday against New Zealand could be a turning point for him. Some superb shots and that pull shot for 6 was something worth watching.

Hasn't batted that well he's a much better player than his recent scores.

He proves that privilege upbringing and education doesn’t makes you smart and intelligent , he kept getting out in a similar way since Asia cup and through whole World Cup, not very smart individual and definitely not oozing with talent either.

It doesn’t require an IQ of Einstein to figure out that you can’t play pull or hook really well so just don’t play it until you get your 50.

The word talent should be banned!

All I want is to see is batters score, bowlers take wickets and fielders taking catches. If a player cant fulfil the basic requirement then the talent cant be send down the drain as far as I am concerned.

Nothing impressive about him. Just another one from Misbah school of batting and he seems like Babar and rizwan's fan.

These young players are overly defensive while playing shots.

This mindset needs to be changed at the junior level.

Unfortunately the young players know this is what they have to do to stand a chance at selection by the selectors.

They know this is what sells to the gullible stat nerd fans and lazy selectors.

When you have 2 con artists in the Pakistan t20 batting line up who conned their way to ICC top 3 rankings by feasting on Nepal, Afghanistan and B/C level bowling attacks in meaningless t20 series by way of playing at run a ball, then ofc the young blood will take heed of this.

The supposed legendary Pak batter Babar can’t hit a six to save his life. They showed this stat at the last WC where he hadn’t hit a six in a ridiculous amount of innings.

And if you’re a rookie who likes to play aggressively like M Haris or Saim, you will get at most 1-2 chances, and then they’ll bin you.

PCB don’t want high risk high reward players in a format where they thrive.

They want no risk no reward players.

And these U19 players know this now.

They are trying to make a career for themselves and this is the only way.

Just be defensive. Get a 50 off 57, who cares if the team wins or loses.

Shamyl was a big disappointment in the ACC u19 Asia cup and then the ICC U19 World cup. He is rated highly but he underperformed in both events. Now the PSL is a day away and this guy will have a another chance to show what he is actually capable of.

It seems this guy has been receiving backlash from Babar fans because he allegedly liked a tweet criticizing Babar. He needs to recognize his current status as relatively unknown; going after the best Pakistani batsman of this generation is bound to attract backlash.

Shamyl Hussain seemed to have misbehaved with Mushtaq Ahmed during the PJL

Well, it all happens on the field. What advice do you have for Shamyl Hussain?

He undoubtedly has attitude issues. I'm intrigued as to what fueled his inflated ego. His performance in the recently concluded U19 World Cup was subpar, averaging just 30 at a strike rate of 68.

He is the son of the journalist Syed Talat Hussain therefore his arrogant above the law attitude is not surprising

Now his behavior suddenly makes sense.

His arrogance is fueled by his vested interest in the status quo.

More like his direct and honest attitude

This is the kind of youth Pakistan needs.

He is no Virat Kohli where he can pull this off and get away with it, needs consistent match winning performances to back it up.

That attitude is not in his favor if he wants to keep it TBH. you gotta show respect to legends of the game when you are a nobody yourself in that sport.

Shamyl Hussain will be leading PTV team in the 50-over competition, President's Cup, Starting from tomorrow. PCB is doing the right thing IMO by letting these youngsters leading a domestic side. It will be a good step towards their grooming.
