No, Shan Masood won’t be good in any of these roles because a person with a corrupt mentality will always think and act that way, no matter how educated or smart he appears to be. He’s been a beneficiary of favoritism for years, and people like him tend to return those favors once they’re in positions of power. Everyone inside and outside the PCB will use their connections to influence him, and he’ll feel pressured to comply because they’ll remind him how they helped him throughout his career, from undeserved selections over more deserving players to being handed the Test captaincy.
Let’s not forget, he continued as Test captain even after a string of poor performances and back to back losses, while others were removed or stopped for far less.
What’s even more shocking is that he’s been given this new role while still serving as Pakistan’s Test captain. Even if the PCB’s plan is to eventually remove him, this appointment should have waited until he was fully done with the Test team. But that’s the PCB for you, one person holding multiple roles at once.
Aaqib Javed is already moving from one role to another, currently serving as both selector and director of high performance. Naqvi has multiple positions himself. At this rate, who knows how many roles Shan Masood will end up with if Naqvi and Aaqib stick around for the next couple of years.
