ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has addressed the fundraising event of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital (SMCH) in Islamabad today in which he said that Pakistani are the most generous nation across the globe, ARY News reported on Saturday.

PM Imran Khan addressed the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMCH&RC) Annual Iftar Dinner and fundraising event in the federal capital today.

The premier thanked the organisers for warmly welcoming him to the event.

He said that cancer disease is a very different genre of disease in which the patients are afraid of their death while its treatment is very expensive and takes time for recovery. The people from the low-income segment are mostly affected by the cancer disease.

The premier said that most deaths are reported from cancer after heart diseases and a cancer hospital is considered a blessing globally.

“I had aimed to establish a cancer hospital in Pakistan 40 years ago as our country needed it more. A big cancer hospital is being constructed in Sindh province. I would like to appreciate those people who built a hospital and then successfully run it. The treatment of cancer disease is possible if it is diagnosed in its initial stage.”

The premier admitted that Pakistanis are the most generous nation in the world. He said that nobody could find an example of a private hospital providing free-of-cost cancer treatment to 75 per cent of patients.

He detailed that the Pakistani nation has so far donated Rs63 billion to Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital (SKMCH) and it was spent on the treatment facilities of the cancer patients. PM Khan said that it is a miracle to spend such a big amount of money on the cancer treatment of deserving patients.

“I am feeling proud for introducing the health insurance facility to the nationals wherever Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) came in power.”

We need to keep supporting this incredible cause .

May Almighty reward IK & all the people behind this project

I don't know of any leader of a nation that has accomplished what Imran Khan has in terms of building cancer hospitals by inviting Muslims to donate through Zakaat and Sadaqah. No matter what happens to him in the fields of politics, Pakistanis whose lives have been saved and those who supported this tremendous cause will always respect him, be grateful to and pray for him.

His Mother's tragic death led to so many lives being saved. A sign of Allah SwT's Grace.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Saturday admitted to investing funds donated to the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust (SKMT) in a private housing project, though he clarified that the amount was later returned to the trust.

The revelation came during the hearing of a Rs10 billion defamation case that Mr Khan filed against PML-N leader Khawaja Asif, now the defence minister.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Umeed Ali Baloch conducted the proceedings, attended by lawyers of both parties. Mr Khan joined through video link from his residence in Lahore’s Zaman Park.

During the cross-examination, Mr Khan disclosed that SKMT’s board of directors informed him about investing in the private housing society.

Pathetic losers trying to damage a hospital every couple of years and getting egg on their face as donations increase.

My cousin worked there years ago. He did not stop talking how ethical and well run the place was. I donate every year to them.

These guys have never nuilt anything in PK for PKs, they loot and run abroad. They and their loser supporters don't donate, which is fine but are desperate to damage an amazing PK institution because they are pathetic and immoral. This hospital is for PKs not IKS family.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Saturday denied sending funds abroad via money laundering while testifying before an Islamabad district and sessions court in a Rs10 billion damages suit he had filed against Defence Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif for allegations regarding Shaukat Khanam Memorial Trust’s (SKMT) financial affairs.

Imran had filed the defamation suit against Asif in 2012 for recovery of Rs10 billion, as the latter had levelled allegations of misappropriation of SKMT funds, claiming that $4.5 million funds of SKMT’s funds had been invested abroad.

In his suit, the PTI chief referred to the August 1, 2012 presser during which the PML-N stalwart had accused Imran of lost in “real estate gambling” a huge amount of funds donated to the SKMT in the form of Zakat, Fitrana or other kinds of donations.

In Dec 2021, Imran, while recording his statement before the digitally connected court, said he was the biggest individual donor of the SKMT from 1991 to 2009 and the investments — against which allegations had been made — were fully recovered by the SKMT without any loss.
