Veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has requested the Uttar Pradesh government to take strict action after players at a state-level tournament were reportedly served food from a toilet in Saharanpur. One of the most popular cricketers on the internet, Indian opener Dhawan enjoys a massive fan following across all social media platforms.

Dhawan, who never shies away from speaking his mind, recently came across with horrific news about the objectionable treatment of young Kabaddi players at the state-level tournament. Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, the celebrated Indian cricketer shared his views in the aftermath of the shocking incident.

The senior Indian batter and Punjab Kings (PBKS) superstar has urged the Uttar Pradesh government to take stock of the incident. "This is very disheartening to see Kabaddi players at State level tournament having food in toilet. Would request @myogiadityanath & @UPGovtSports to look into the same and take necessary action," Dhawan tweeted. The star batter also shared the video of the incident that went viral earlier this week.

As per the recent developments, the Uttar Pradesh government has suspended Saharanpur's regional sports officer in the wake of the controversy. An inquiry was ordered by Saharanpur district magistrate Akhilesh Singh. The Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur has directed the UP sports department to take strict action against the contractors and officers.

According to a report filed by PTI, UP State Kabaddi Association secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh has revealed that the kabaddi tournament was not sanctioned by the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI) nor by the state. Singh also said the event was not a part of the annual calendar.

"The tournament was organised by the state government's sports department. Our role was to provide only the technical support. We sent some officials to conduct the event and the selection committee, nothing else," Singh said.

BIMARU gonna BIMARU.

Pity, all those athletes probably did indeed fall sick after consuming that food.

This is as disgusting as it gets. Human life has to have some value?

Makes one feel like vomiting just watching the video.

At first I felt sorry for these athletes but why didnt they take the food outside. Even if it was snowing it would be better than eating or placing food in disgusting toilets.

Good on Shikhar Dawan to highlight this. But a lot of Saffron extremists might attack him now, for what they would believe is putting India in bad light.

India has a long long way to go before it becomes a modern civilised nation.
cricketjoshila Im sure you have some sort of explanation for this?

Shikar is used to 5 star hotels and being surrounded by cheer leaders while playing IPL.

But lets be honest here and this isn't trolling.

The average Indian's living condition is closer to these dudes eating in a toilet than it is to Shikar Dhawan.

And thats the problem.

Eating in a toilet. Not from toilet :)))

You may as well be eating out of the toilet. Yuck..

Is this normal in some parts of India? When travelling , I always try to visit the poor, in slums etc but never saw anyone eating or laying out food.

No one eats in a Toilet. Under what circumstances are these athletes forced to eat in a toilet needs to come out. Was it raining outside? Was there some illegal food or drinks involved?

If they wanted to, they could have sat under a tree or in the grass to eat.

Its certainly not raining as seen in the video.

The athletes also look happy as if this is the norm.

This video isn't something I could ever watch so I won't be pressing the play button.

BJP apologists will come out in droves I'm sure to come up with a coping mechanism of some sort.

Absolute sick

Here in the UK I try to avoid public toilets because the floors are soaked in sticky urine and I hate walking in something like that.

Perhaps some illegal susbstance is involved and they want to do it in secret. No sane person would visit an indian public toilet and they provide ample privacy to do some illegal stuff. Eating in toilet is not a norm in India. No one does that.

Of course the athletes will be happy if they are getting to do what might get them arrested outside.

lol. It was 200 young female athletes not homeless women. Nothing to do with drugs, this seems no issue for them. I think we might need some of these ladies to give an interview, please post if you see one.

Disgusting!! I'm sure this wouldn't have happened if it was a. Mens team. Add the bloody patriarchy to the feeling of magnanimity in providing free food. It has been highlighted as it's an exception. Atleast that's the hope.

@Local Dada

Has the government put a stop to this yet? Hopefully Shikar Dawan will be making sure they do.
