A career on the slide. The guy has no motivation, looks overweight and will continue to slide. A terrible shame

West Indies is going to play a three-match ODI series and a T20I against Ireland in January which will be followed by a five-match T20I series against England from January 22 to 30. West Indies announced the squad for these two series last week and Shimron Hetmyer was not a part of the team.

West Indies coach Phil Simmons mentioned during a press conference that Hetmyer is letting down himself and his teammates by not paying enough attention to his physical fitness. Hetmyer also missed the recent tour to Pakistan because of personal reasons.

“It’s something that’s heart-wrenching because you know that you’re part of this team and you have to continue to be a certain fitness to be part of this team, and you keep letting down your team-mates,” Simmons said during the press conference.

“It’s disappointing and again, we have to go back to this and I think it’s something which we shouldn’t have to be going back to all the time. He keeps letting down himself and his teammates.”

Chris Gayle has also not been picked in the West Indies squad after Cricket West Indies chief executive Johnny Grave had earlier suggested that the board might host a farewell match for him. Simmons mentioned that Gayle is not a part of the West Indies makeup anymore and he didn’t receive any update from the board regarding his inclusion in the team.

“It’s something that I would like to see start in our cricket,” Simmons said. “But when we sit down to select a squad, we sit down to select the best squad for the upcoming series. If it’s a case where a send-off is to happen for Chris, then for us to select him, if he’s not part of our make-up, it has to come from above us. I can’t really say if that’s going to happen later on in the year,” he further added.

Kieron Pollard who missed the last series against Pakistan has recovered from his injury and would be leading the side. Fabian Allen, Evin Lewis, and Anderson Phillip who tested positive for Covid-19 during the tour to Pakistan have been sidelined. Also, Andre Russell is not picked in the team despite him performing well in the T10 League and Big Bash League.

Another long list of lazy Windies batsman that are intent looking for easy money than working hard to fulfil their talent . He is lucky that he didn't play with Clive and Viv, I am sure Someone would have given him a beating.

That's such a poor attitude.

Far too many West Indies players these days with poor attitudes and work ethic and which reflects on the team's performances and results.

For a people my age that remember the pride that Clive Lloyd, Viv, Mikey,Malcolm Marshall and others had, this is heart breaking.

In a major boost to the Rajasthan Royals (RR), star batter Shimron Hetmyer has rejoined the camp and will be available for their next fixture against Chennai Super Kings on Friday, May 20.

Hetmyer rushed home last week to be with his wife, who was due to give birth to their first child. A couple of days later, the West Indian announced on social media that they had been blessed with a baby boy.

A report in ESPNCricinfo states that Shimron Hetmyer has already joined the Royals camp in Mumbai and is currently in mandatory isolation. The southpaw will join the rest of the squad ahead of the team's last league game.

Hetmyer, who was acquired by RR for ₹8.5 crore at the mega auction earlier this year, has justified his billing with significant contributions in the middle order. He has scored 291 runs in 11 matches at an average of 72.50 and has remained unbeaten on seven occasions.

The 25-year-old cricketer from Guyana, however, has decided to give the Pakistan and West Indies series a miss due to the birth of his first child. Hetmyer communicated the decision to the chairman of the West Indies selection panel, Desmond Haynes.

Addressing the press, Haynes said:

"We got the email from Hetty saying that he is unavailable for selection because of the birth of his child. That is all the information we received so we acted that way; we had considered him for selection and the note stated he was unavailable."
The 66-year-old former cricketer also stated that Hetmyer still remains an integral part of West Indies' limited-overs set-up, given that he achieves the minimum fitness levels.

Speaking on his appointment, Hetmyer said, “I’m really happy to be appointed captain of my country franchise, I’m excited to lead this group of men! I can’t wait for the CPL to begin.”

Head Coach of the franchise, Rayon Griffith, welcomed Hetmyer’s appointment and said that he was happy to see him get the opportunity to captain a senior franchise.

Chairman of the Guyana Amazon Warriors franchise, Dr. Bobby Ramroop stated, “We are pleased to appoint our first Guyanese captain since the 2013 season. Hetmyer has been a main part of our set up over the years and we believe the time is right to have him lead the team.”

Plane drama sees pivotal West Indies player ruled out of T20 World Cup

Left-hand batter Shimron Hetmyer has been replaced in West Indies' ICC Men's T20 World Cup squad after missing his flight to Australia.

Shamarh Brooks replaces Hetmyer in the squad, with Cricket West Indies (CWI) informing the ICC on Monday.

Hetmyer missed his re-scheduled flight to Australia, which had been changed from Saturday 1 October at his request, due to family reasons.

A flight was found two days later from Guyana and via New York, though on the morning of the flight Hetmyer informed West Indies Director of Cricket Jimmy Adams that he would not be able to reach the airport in time.

Adams says Hetmyer was aware of the consequences of missing the flight.

"It was made clear to him that if there were any further delays and issues with his travel to Australia then we would have no choice but to replace him in the squad, as we are not prepared to compromise the team’s ability to prepare for this extremely important global event," Adams said.

Hetmyer's replacement Brooks is no stranger to the West Indies team, playing for the side in all three international formats, including 11 T20Is, all in the last 12 months.

West Indies are drawn in Group B of the First Round at the T20 World Cup and face matches against Scotland, Zimbabwe and Ireland before a possible place in the Super 12 stage of the tournament.

Outstanding in IPL 2023

He has been excellent in IPL in last 3-4 years now. Top class finisher but I think he can contribute more with bat if given a wider role.

RR has a pretty ordinary #4 and #5 so better to use him ahead than letting the ordinary batters waste deliveries and put him under extra pressure.
