Former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar has decided to tell his own story in the form of a biopic and named it Rawalpindi Express, after his on field nickname for being one of the fastest bowlers of his time.

On Sunday, he shared a teaser for the film, captioned, “Beginning of this beautiful journey. Announcing the launch of my story, my life, my biopic, Rawalpindi Express — Running Against The Odds.

“If you think you know a lot already, you’re mistaken. You’re in for a ride you’ve never taken before. An international project by Q Film Productions [and the] first foreign film about a Pakistani sportsman.”

The short clip featured a very misty frame with train tracks at the centre and Akhtar’s character, with his back to the camera, running. The camera zoomed in on him and his jersey with the number 14 took up the screen all the while a train siren is audible in the background though no locomotive is seen. The teaser also revealed the release date for the film — November 16, 2023.

The director, Muhammad Faraz Qaiser, said actualising an idea he had in 2016 is like a dream come true for him.

Prepare yourself for the most cringe worthy movie of all time.

I expect him to tell us how he was born as a disabled kid, couldn't even walk in his initial years, before he saw an airplane flying over his head which inspired him to run.

As he started running, he saw his legs getting shape and that is how his disability dissapeared.

We will also see how he struggled with knee problems throughout his career, he will as usual blame his knees for the crap performance he gave against India in the 2003 WC, and the game against NZ in the 2011 when Ross Taylor sent him to retirement.

We will also get to learn how the whole 90s team was filled with 10 match fixers, and how the great Shoaib Actor was one man fighting against the corrupt PCB and his 10 corrupt team-mates.

And not to forget, he will blame the whole world, the ICC, the PCB, the media and every player he played with how he was portrayed as the bad guy who never did anything wrong, he was never banned for drug consumption, it was a fabricated lie from the ICC who did everything to prevent Shoaib Actor from setting the 2007 WC on fire.

This is the main story from this "foreign biopic". You can obviously add a bit of jazba, daleri, badmaashi and you get a sure shot blockbuster.

The End.

Awesome. Need more of this.

Yes , he was and is erratic, that being a synonym for Pakistani

He has an alright story to his life, nothing amazing.

Players who have a great biography/story:

1. Mohammad Amir (2009-2017)

2. Imran Khan (deserves a two part biopic or trilogy)

3. Inzimam (rise and fall 1992-2007)

4. Shahid Afridi (forest gump of Pakistan)

5. Javed Miandad (the street fighter, the mastermind behind the 1992 win)

Haha...it's going to be the Pakistani version of 'Forrest Gump'. Now that Bollywood is coming out with a desi version 'Laal Singh Chadda'.

Sadly, our awaam and especially our media is going to be believe whatever is shown and make Shoaib into an inspirational hero and the movie a classic underdog story. You are right...it's going to be the 'most cringe worthy movie of all time'!

I'm sold. Where can I buy tickets?

Can't wait for this.
Wanna see it in IMAX 4K with a large mixed salt and salty popcorn...
Will watch it at least ten times

For a sportsman’s biopic to be successful, the guy needs a major sporting achievement to build towards in the story’s narrative

I don’t understand what even Shoaib will try to use as his major cricketing accomplishment?

Amir will use the CT final
Imran will use the 1992 wc win
Afridi will use the 2009 T20 World Cup win

The only notable Shoaib performances in a match/series winning cause is the 2006 England series. Maybe his performance in the 2004 ICC champions trophy can be considered but not much of a narrative considering Pakistan got knocked out in the semis. Also, his 1 ball in the 2003 World Cup that reached 100mph isn’t much to write about considering Pakistan’s humiliating exit from the World Cup

What does he mean by 'foreign flim'? Is it in French, Spanish, Mandarin etc etc?

Waiting for some song called Jazba thrown in.

Will be interesting though- SA is a real character. Hope they dont try to white wash his story though!

Not entirely true. Moneyball movie is a good example, it was a movie which gave insight on how stats were applied, despite the team not winning the league.

Shoaib's cricketing accomplishment are:

1st to bowl 100MPH
1st to bowl SRT for a Golden Duck

But there is a championship, trophy they work towards by the end of Moneyball. There is nothing like that in Shoaib’s career, he was a part of a WC runners up side in the beginning of his career and was dropped for the Semi Final in the twilight of his career.

The first ball ball to Sachin and the 100mph were very much in the first act of his career. You cannot close off a story when there is still an act 2 and 3 for the player.

Act 2 being his Test battles against India at home and away, the England Test series at home, the CT 2004 and missing out on the World Cup 2007+ First T20i World Cup, playing season 1 of IPL and totally lighting it up with his 4fer on debut.

Act 3 would be his final stint as an international cricketer in which he was carried through by Afridi’s friendship and loyalty to him as they both emerged on the scene together until finally being dropped by Waqar/Afridi for the semi final

I think the overlapping theme of the biopic should be his rivalry against Tendulkar. Eventually Sachin had the last laugh in his career over Shoaib because SA was dropped for the big semi final in Mohali whereas SRTs innings anchored India to a defendable score instead of being skittled out cheaply. This rivalry was definitely the greatest Bowler v Batsman rivalry in that era IMO

This should definitely include the Calcutta Test where he uprooted Sachid and Dravid's stumps with rapid yorkers. I hope the real story is shown and not the Airbrushed version. I would definitely give it a watch.

For his major achievement, THE ONLY ASIA CRICKET TEST CHAMPSIONSHIP would be a perfect setting in which he really shone.

Or the Pakistan ODI series win downunder when the Aussies were really at the peak of their powers. He just ran through them like knife through hot butter in that series.

The way indian crowd behaved in that Kolkata test, I doubt they would like to show the reality especially if indians are also in their target audience. :inti

If I were to write the script for Shoaib’s story, this is how I would plan it out…

-Brief insights into childhood and the apparent issues he had with his knees at an early age
-learning cricket in the streets of Pindi/college
-college life as a bad boy and transition into club-FC
-making an impression amongst the big boys of Pakistan cricket (Wasim, Waqar, Inzimam, Saeed Anwar and senior selectors) and his emergence into the national side
*+Friendship with young guns and future superstars of Pakistan (Afridi+Razzaq)
**-Abuse and politics he suffered at the hands of senior players and PCB management
-1999 World Cup. Announcing himself as a superstar on the world stage. Big performances especially against NZ in the semi final. The Fleming yorker, one of the most iconic wickets in ODI history!
-Making friends and earning respect from some of the toughest competitors in world cricket at the time.
-being banned for chucking and subsequent overturn because of hyper extension.

-The Sachin Tendulkar wicket on the very first ball+Dravid. Shoaib’s iconic rivalry against Sachin and all Indian batting stalwarts throughout his career.
+Karachi Test. Shoaib nailing Sachin in the helmet and the apparent legs shaking incident.

-Bob Woolmer’s effect on him. Bringing him back to face ashes winning England in 2006 and for him to produce a world class performance over the 3 Tests. The Kevin Pietersen chicken dance.

-His strange relationship with Mohammad Asif, bat incident.

-IPL 1, thousands of Indian fans cheering passionately for a Pakistan player!

-His final year or two as an international cricketer on his last legs, yet still producing 90mph+ spells.
-Mentoring of Mohammad Amir.
-Afridi seeing him through when nobody wanted him (mainly coach Waqar Younis)
-The sad and almighty beating he took at the hands of Ross Taylor (even though he could have had him out twice)

Biopics are normally over glorified as will be the case here as well. The juiciest part of his career will be exaggerated to show him as being one helluva hero! It's weird seeing Imran Khan's "Kaptaan" has been shelved it seems yet Shoaib's story will be released next year.

Lol, dont jealous at the first Pakistani player who got interested producers, investors in his biopic.

Imran Khan movie should only be directed by a big budget Hollywood firm. He will get it one day

Yes IK's biopic is Steven Spielberg material for sure. No Cricketer has ever become PM of any country before then there is his life as a colourful and the most charismatic Cricketer ever too.

The beauty of the MSD biopic was that it was mostly an “untold story”. That was possible only because MSD was secretive about his personal affairs. No one knew much about his personal life except his close friends. Akhtar’s life is an open book. He’s shared the same nuggets several times.

Akhtar released his autobiography before the movie. The movie can work if the cast in the movie do a stellar job.

New Delhi: July 26 is a historic day in Indian history as it marks India’s win over Pakistan in the Kargil War. To honour the war heroes of the historic win, July 26 is celebrated as the Kargil Vijay Diwas in India. On the 23rd anniversary of the Kargil Vijay Diwas, let’s recall some bold claims made by former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar. The Rawalpindi express had said that he left a $250,000 County contract and went to Kargil to participate in the war, only to be denied permission by the Pakistan army.

“No one should doubt my patriotism. Very few people know that at that time I had a contract with Nottingham County Club for 250,000. In 2002, there was an even bigger agreement, but when the Kargil war took place, I left both of them and came to Pakistan,” Akhtar said, adding, “I had come and stood in Lahore. The Haji General came with me and said what are you doing here. I said the war was about to begin. If they die, they will die as well. We’ll see everyone. The county left the season and came back. I’ve been to fight twice,” Shoaib Akhtar had said.

Akhtar also revealed that he had asked his friends in Kashmir to keep the weapons ready. “I called my friends in Kashmir that whatever the ready (weapons) are, keep it, I have come. My wife folded her hands and said, “Let it be for God’s sake.” India’s attack took place. There was a lot of damage. I woke up in the morning so I started to feel dizzy. The wife said don’t take any tension. I was fighting with people in tension,” Akhtar said in an interview with ARY.

Hmm, scratching my head now… didnt Akhter marry pretty late like in 2014/2015? He already had a wife in 1999?

You used the same 2 words when posters were dismissing Javed Afridi's chances of buying Chelsea and they were proven correct because he didn't have the means to buy the club. Just because someone has a different opinion to yours, it doesn't mean they're "jealous".

There is being a clown and then there is this.

Nobody takes him seriously, and this fool is making a mockery of his remaining reputation with this kind of brainless statements.

Exactly my thoughts. He probably wasn't even married then. Anything this guy says should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Shoaib should check with a psychiatrist. Looks like clear cut case of schizophrenia. Or may be he is lying thru his teeth as usual

This is why producers are rushing to film the Shoaib Akhtar story. The man truly is a legend, not only flattening the stumps of India's star batsmen, he was gunning down their soldiers in the Kargil peaks as well.

O jeeyo Shera. :rahi

Incidentally how come we have multiple emojis for Indian batting flops like Kohli, and we don't have any for the living legend who is set to go down as a Hollywood legend?

What would interest me is if his relationships with the likes of Bob Woolmer, Shahid Afridi, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Inzamam-ul-Haq are properly revealed rather than just glossed over.

Bruh! :))

This thread has the potential to be an epic one! :yk

By the way, just for the record, got nothing by love for the fastest man ever to bowl the cricket ball.

Loved his book and will definitely watch the biopic!

And of course the Afridi/Akhtar/Asif fight scene could be a classic.

I hope they dont try and fit in too much

The best biopic films are those that focus on a small but importsnt passage rsther than try and fit in the whole mans life

if i were his director id choose his rise to stardom around the 1998/99 indian tour and the world cup Which made him a star

Good choice. Hope he's able to replicate the legendary run up

A biopic for a player who took only 178 Test wickets, won 0 trophies, never led the side and was too scared to bowl to Sachin in the 2003 World Cup match?

What will this biopic talk about? Just his two 100 MPH deliveries that didn’t get either batsmen out?

This biopic will be more like high fantasy since he has no tangible achievements to merit a movie.

First of all, there was no need for a biopic this early. Bollywood and lollywood have a habit a making biopics of people who are still alive and not even in old age.

Second, they dont do just to sports movies.

Gonna be a lame movie

-The sad and almighty beating he took at the hands of Ross Taylor (even though he could have had him out twice)

just so you know, he hit bob woolmer aswell.

I hope you are joking. Shoaib Akhtar is one of the legendary fast bowlers of world cricket; and primarily the reason I gained an interest in cricket. Not everything is about stats. His fear factor, presence and aggression signified a much feared and potent Pakistani bowling lineup of the late 90's/early 2000's.

He is truly one of a kind. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of posters on here gained an interest in cricket from watching Akhtar steam in from the boundary line.

You would imagine a biopic on such a character would be less about the sports side of it, than some of his extracurricular activities. From what I've heard from people who bumped into him during social occasions (which is a polite way of describing nocturnal activities) some of it wouldn't really be suitable for Pakistani audiences.

He is a colourful character if nothing else. Must admit, even though I have no idea what to expect, I would be intrigued to see what they would put in a movie.

I would've preferred to have seen Uzair Jaswal to have played Shoaib Akhtar.

Your opinion is irrelevant if there is public, market, sponsorship demand for the biopic.

Decent not great cricketer. Kinda like afridi who was a decent cricketer. It had a a huge impact. The reason there are so many young People from kp in Pakistan team is because of afridi . Anyway Akhtar was a colorful character.

Need a biopic of M Asif too. Most gifted Pakistani bowler of all time so far. Said so by Imran Khan himself. Rollercoaster of a life too. Add some fantasy too, why not. In this version Pakistan lifts the 2007 t20 WC. Tarantino edits history all the time for his movies lol.

Although he didn’t achieve anything significant in the game, he was still massively popular among Pakistani fans. Much like Afridi.

This project needs to be abandoned. Shoaib is a nobody.

Let's forget his cricketing career for a moment, a nobody who has millions of followers on social media today? Must bee the most famous 'nobody'.

He was very popular in India as well. Even today many of his followers in social media are indians.

Is anyone really surprised that this has gone pear-shaped.

Was bound to go this way.

Shoaib is a very egoist guy. He can't get along with anyone or any organization. When he played the Pakistani players and management has problems with him. His County Worcestershire had issues with him. Later in the IPL he had issues with Kolkata Knight Riders and Shahrukh Khan.

Let's see how he goes if appointment the bowling coach/consultant.

This would be a terrible decision as his biopic is going to happen at some point in the future. He'll just be looking for ammo to use. Don't know if his priorities would be to help the PCT or make his personal brand bigger.

In India, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar, has a huge fan base. Akhtar, who was named "Rawalpindi Express" after his hometown of Rawalpindi in Pakistan's Punjab region, was born there and has achieved much in cricket. Nevertheless, like some other sportsmen, he also had acting ambitions. The former Pakistani fast bowler told that he was approached for the Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt's crime-drama movie "Gangster" (2005) with the offer to play the lead role, as reported by The Express Tribune.

Last year, Akhtar revealed the title of his biopic, "Rawalpindi Express: Racing Against the Odds." Although it's unknown if the film has since begun production or not, last month Akhtar announced his disassociation from it via a post on Twitter, alleging "disagreements and contractual infractions."
