I have noticed that all superior T 20 players also have a decent test record whereas the opposite is not true. Look at nawaz for instance. Technique and fundamental are present hence the success.

Asif ali has all the shots and timing - but what he needs is temperament which can only come from test cricket.

I really think he needs to play test cricket. This is similar to Usman Qadri needing to play test cricket to develop consistency. I doubt he will average more than 30 but he will get a chance to play more than 30 balls per innings.

The rigor and grind of test cricket is absolutely necessary.

you mean first class cricket, and he does play.

yes first class, or county (hence the generic term "domestic test cricket")

he has only played 38 fc matches and averages 24...if i were pcb, i would focus on him just facing as many balls as possible

Yea, he should be.

Test cricket has changed - the entire match gets done in 3 days many at times.

Batsmen are not solid enough to consistently play long innings and a slower run rate. Scoring rate is fast paced and batsmen are somewhat impatient.

And we need batters like Asif to increase the probability of getting some quick runs. Otherwise our tuk tukkers are useless anyway when it comes to launching a counter attack.

10 balls are usually too many for Asif Ali in T 20 what makes you think he will last even half of this in tests.

Worst idea ever.

Where do people get the notion Asif Ali is a great counter attack batsman he is at most a slogger in Hasan Ali mode even Afridi was like Viv Richards in front of him.

well you answered your own question.

that specific skill needs to be mastered.

we need asif ali that bats 30 balls and scores a 70 after picking and choosing which balls to hit...

not 15 of 10

He is a tail ender without bowling there is a reason he averages low 20's in our awful FC circuit he is a rubbish batsman you can't polish a **** and make him a diamond

Asif is in impact player.

And why do the novices don’t understand this concept ?
Because they can’t think beyond numbers and statistics when analyzing a player.

Impact player is a hit or a miss type gamble - and I certainly agree that Asif has been more often than not, a miss player.

However, as I said earlier, the dynamics of test cricket have changed - you do need an impact player in modern day test, that is fast paced than ever before.

And I also agree that Asif can’t bowl otherwise his chances being an impact player were gone a little higher. However, this is not concerning since we already have a good bowling force.
What we need is runs on the board - by hook or by crook.

May be there is a better uncapped impact player sitting somewhere in the domestic, and he should be coached and brought up on the scene, but for now, Asif is one of the available choices.

Lots of investment has been put into him - can’t just discard him as being a T20 slogger.
Slagging is now part of Test cricket as well.

38 first-class matches with an average of 24.22

Mediocre numbers.

Anyone who thinks Asif Ali can excel in Test cricket is sadly not a cricket enthusiast, the guy is street or club level superstar nothing else has zero technique and only ¼ trick pony

If a mediocre talent like azhar ali can do OK in test cricket then asif ali can also.

he needs to apply himself and learn to play long innings.

What a slap in the face to club level cricketers, stop.

He has played a few seasons of FC but his batting hasn't really matured. Don't know if FC will improve his batting any further or not.

Shahid Afridi's batting was a lot better when he was regularly playing FC cricket. - till 2006.

Asif doesn't seem to be that guy whose game improves with more FC cricket.

He is simply not good enough for International cricket, and he never will be.

Happy to see Asif Ali playing first class cricket as it will provide him chance to spend time on the wicket and play the balls on merit rather than just trying to hit every ball for six.
