I am saying this as one of his biggest fans. Yes Babar should step down and focus on batting. It seems he has too many things clouding his judgment as a result both his batting and captaincy is suffering. He should take a month or so off cricket as well and reorganize himself.

Wasim, Waqar, Malik all basically laying into Babar that he had been given absolute authority, backing by the PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja, he knew he was going to be captaining Pakistan in this T20 World Cup, he had a long time to prepare for this T20 WC, he has been captaining Pakistan for the last 2-3 years and he had been given the players he demanded and the coaching staff he wanted and the nets, training regimen he wanted.

If he still did not deliver and still did not develop the team's bench strength and did not plan properly for Australian conditions and did not select other options for the middle order then that's on him.

Players like Haris Sohail and Sohaib Maqsood are being wasted.

Round and round we go on the merry go round. This time we're back to the crocked oldies being our saviours. In some ways it's hilarious.

Is it that hard to just accept we aren't that good at cricket?

Babar should definitely be replaced as captain and not just for T20's but for all formats.

His replacement should be Shadab for all three formats and not just for T20's.
This way he'll be forced to play all formats and the control he now has with the ball makes him the best Test bowling candidate we have for all conditions.

Haris Sohail won us games in the last WC. We might not win with him but hes better than the likes of Shan Masood, Asif Ali etc.

Yes,and a
Very big yes at least from T20 and ODIz..he may continue to be skipper in test cricket.. in T20/ODI Imad wasim should be made captain.
T20 squad post wt20 should be
Fakhar
Sharjeel
M.Nawaz
Babar
Azam Khan(wk)
Talat hussain
Shadab
Imad
Naseem
Rouf
Afridi

The next 2 matches will influence the decision, but even if Pakistan win the next 2 T20Is then it still looks unlikely that they will qualify. And for that reason alone, I believe he needs to be replaced as T20I skipper.

According to Sports Reporters, PCB has no plans to replace him as captain. They will review his captaincy after the 2023 ODI WC. However Saqlain's contract is over anyways after the T-20 WC. The coaching staff will come under review. Mohd Wasim the CS will also get the ax although its unfair to blame him, Babar overruled him on everything.

Babar should be sacked instead of Wasim.

It's laughable that this is a criteria for captaincy when a few runs here or there mean we have 3 wins out of 3 up until now. I guess previous Pakistani captains have been so successful in Australia that Babar stands out though....

If i am Babar and Rizwan i am resting from the format for a long time anyway. Too much disrespect being thrown around their names. People need to learn what they bring to the side and i would choose for that to be done the hard way now.

Think about it though.

It's not just the T20 World Cup though.

Pakistan were beaten at home by England and the 4-3 margin was very generous.

I personally think Babar and rizwan have been molded Into odi players they both need 5-10 overs to settle before they getting going they should quit t20's and focus on odi and tests
They will be the greats of the game in odi and tests.

Then we should have dropped him after the England series. That would make more sense than punishing him for failing an assignment barely any Pakistan captains in history have been successful at.

No one leaves any job in Pakistan, most recently Misbab and Surfraz didn't leave captaincy after prolonged failure .

I fail to see Shadab as a mature leader! He will do even worse than Babar as a skipper and will also bring back his bestie Hasan Ali for sure.
But do we have anyone with any leadership qualities in the current playing XI ?

How about Shan Masood as the new Captain ?
The guy is well educated and can speak good english at least...
Also seems to be mentally strong!
His strike rate might be an issue though!

Rizwan and Shadab probably aren't much better, though tactically it is hard to be worse than Babar. They would unite the squad though and are respected players in the XI.

Outside of the present squad Imad Wasim would be a good candidate. He would be picked on merit once Mohammad Wasim and Babar are no longer in charge.

Imad is generally dislikable though so being Pakistan captain might yield a turn back to the bad old days of infighting and grouping.

Im willing to give Babar a chance if he stops being so damn selfish. His hesitancy to drop down the order shows he puts himself before the team. Even tactically I’m willing to give him time to improve.

I’m hesitant to change captains unless we absolute need to because it plays further into the chaos that’s associated with our cricket and cricket board. It’s not a good sign.

Shadab aside I’m not sure who replaces him. Shadab has leadership qualities, has experience in captaining in non international matches, and is performing.

Above all Shadab genuinely cares about the team. Heard when we were getting blanked by Zim he was crying in the pavilion. His performance aside in that game, from what I’ve seen of his character he wants to do his darn best for Pakistan and I trust him to make the decisions that are actually the best for the team.

Should Babar Azam resign due to possible early departure?

The news is that he will be retained as the captain. He has completely failed in Australian conditions. He kept boasting that this is the best 15 we have and has the potential to win the cup for Pakistan. Out of that 15, 2 players are unfit. Khushdil Shah is out of form and has failed in so many matches before the world cup yet finds himself in 15. Then we have Usman Qadir who is the 3rd spinner in the team selected to play in Australian conditions. Why would the team carry 3 spinners? Who will take responsibility for this mind boggling selection and then defeats? Three big matches under Babar, team has lost with similar pattern of defeats. Starting from last T20 world cup where they had Australia 5 wickets out at score of 100, then in Asia cup final we had Sri Lanka 4 out on 30s and then we had India on ropes with 4 wickets down on score range of 30s. Last the culprits in middle order failure were Khushdil, Iftekhar ,Asif and latest to that list is Hyder Ali yet they are in the team. PCB Chairman says we don't have Messi on side line to replace these players. If scores of 0 2 15 are to be made then best players selected based on their domestic T20 cup performance could have been easily drafted to get such scores or better.

Watch Babar Azam ultra defensive captaincy and slow bowling going to cost this game.

I am sensing this to happened as the scores has been revised and I am pretty sure Babar will go ultra defensive and tell bowlers to keep bowling slower bowls.

Babar needs to stop being selfish and focus on himself . Give away captaincy . May be he can continue as test captain but let go off Limited overs . Play at 3 in t20 . Let shadab take over . Shadab has a good experience in psl . Also both Mickey and Sarfraz had said shadab is the one who can be a perfect leader .

He should resign or be sacked. He does not have it in him to be a good captain.

My choice for captain is Shadab.

As it stands around 87% of those who voted want Babar to be axed however before his appointment, most of you were cheerleading for him to lead the side.

The lesson to learn here folks is that a timid captain can never be good leader of the side. It’s actually got the worst out of him because he’s abused his position to become a selfish player. A trait which he’s clearly picked up from Misbah.

One of the reasons why Pakistan is failing at cricket because no one in Pakistan actually understands the game. Pakistanis don’t know how to think objectively and are simply unable to understand the importance of professionalism and work ethic.

Shadab or Imad Wasim are the only natural leaders in Pakistan. Shan Masood won’t be around for long at his age so no point having a short term appointment.

Having Rizwan as captain would be a disaster for two reasons. He only makes the team as a specialist wicket keeper as he’s been worked out as a batsman. Secondly, last thing we need is another era like we had under Inzy when he allowed the Tableeghi Mullahs infiltrate the dressing room. The fact that most Pakistanis find nothing wrong with this sums up the mess the country is in and how misplaced their priorities really are.

He is a long-term choice. Stick with him unless he says I want to step away.

What he needs is good advice and until he is firm on his feet, none of this he should be an independent thinker business. Far too much power in his hands.

He may yet make it into semi finals and maybe final. Who knows. Everything will change then.

However, it is criminal that Babar found his best eleven (or close to it) 4th match into the tournament after having 20+ T20s leading up to the tournament played with the likes of Khushdil in the eleven.

His mindset to not innovate until his hand is forced, to take defensive option first and his teams lose deciders. All this needs to change.

I’ve been following cricket for many years and I’ve seen these emotional defences for a long time. It’s just a game.

Initially there is ridicule at the suggestion of removal of a so called “nice guy” or “nice guys”

Then there is stubborn resistance mixed with ridicule

Then there is the “there is no one better” argument

Then there is the give them time argument

Then there is a bit of delusion - “you watch, next time….blah blah”

Then there is the repeat of “ok name someone better”. “We will not score 30 without him/them”

Then there’s some skewing of stats to prove they aren’t doing that bad. “How can you disrespect this legend”

Then there’s an emotional “you will regret it when they retire”

Then there’s an emotional “he should leave because we don’t deserve him”.

Every time, guess what. Said player has resigned / retired. And you know what? The world didn’t end.

T20 isn't a gentleman's games its dirty game
It's not suitable for players like babar rizwan misbah etc.. you need dirty players like sarfaraz shadab hasan ali amir etc.. there is no harm in having different captains for different formats babar should focus on tests and odi's
Where he truly belongs but he's just being greedy and hogging on to a deserving players place. He will just lose respect and harm pakistans t20 setup in a long run

Captaincy has always been a very sensitive topic in Pakistan cricket team whether it was 6-7 Captains Pak had during 90s era, then after Inzamam's retirement it was frequently changed from Malik to Yousuf to Younus to Afridi to Hafeez to Misbah which created instability and groupings in the team. I still believe Babar can continue for another 1-2 years in all formats but PCB must tell him in clear words that he has to work on his weakness, and he must give fair opportunities to all selected players. Rizwan should be kept away from captaincy as team might go in different direction and also he has to improve his game in all formats. Pakistan needs a captain who is fittest, perform consistently and can also keep the team united

His poor captaincy and choices have contributed to far too many defeats in the past 2 years. His own batting form has badly deteriorated.

Pakistan have other captaincy options. He needs to either resign or be removed.

Speaking to the media, Shahid Afridi said, “Babar Azam should quit the T20I captaincy and focus on his batting. We have other players who can lead the T20I team, like Shadab Khan, Mohammad Rizwan, and even Shan Masood”

Shahid Afridi should resign from suggesting names as a replacement

Babar should stay away for captaincy for his batting sake. Maybe there is the attraction to be the best batsman and best captain - very few have achieved it. I give credit to him for trying it.
