Should Babar Azam retire from T20 Internationals?

He has nothing left to prove and not much to gain from this. He is the number one Batsman in a format where Kohli hardly ever plays for India in. I feel that he needs to step aside and focus solely on Test and ODI runs for the next decade and a half to get the best out of him. Sure he can play the franchise leagues to maximise his earnings but I think T20i needs to be a platform for developing Young batsmen at international level. Babar is nearly the finished article and should lead the way unlike others such as Hafeez and Malik who have clung on for far too long.

I have seen some daft threads on pakpassion but this one tops them all.

Lol top thread. He needs T20 to improve his six hitting abilities

Actually, now is the time to prioritize T20 cricket. World T20 is next year and Pakistan has a decent chance of winning it with players like Babar and Imad(who is a good player in T20).

That I agree with, I think the next T20wc should be his last. Really there is nothing to gain in this format besides that or a career halting injury

He didn't effect Kohli

Lol.

Maybe he should not play T20 bilatereals but he shouldn't retire from T20s. We need him for the T20 WCs.

Came here to say this, he shouldn't be wasting his time in T20 Bilateral games... Only play in PSL and T20 world cup, leave the spot for new players to show case their talents.

Exactly. Most teams play under strengths side in T20 bilaterals. It's expected Babar will take advantage of 2nd string bowlers.

We need him in ODIs and tests.

He is just starting his career. This thread would have made sense if Babar had played for 7-8 years.

Lol, if there is any format he should retire from (virtually) it should be the Test format. He is the best batsman in T20I format, and you want him to retire, lol.

Lol you want a thread deleted when this here is what we must do to ensure that we develop more new talent for Pakistan. The same Babar, Sarfaraz, Hafeez and Malik are regularly in the T20 and ODI teams. Any new talent coming into the side has to contend with guys who have cemented their spots and are undroppable.

I ask you a question, T20s started in 2004-5 and Tendulkar retired from ODI cricket in 2012. How many T20 internationals did he play in this time period?

I think what actually teams do in T20s is give young players chances not retire there upcoming batsman. Lol

And the right way to this is to retire Malik and Hafeez from T20s not Babar.

In T20 format, you still need one anchor role and Babar can play that role. Even though he may not play big shots, he keeps the strike rate above 110.

No, Babar doesn't play as much cricket as Kohli, so there is no good reason for him to retire from it.

Do you want him to skip T20 WCs too???

He has improved his ODI game because of his performance in T20s. When he first started he was like Imam.

1.Babar Azam
2.Sharjeel Khan
3.Fakhar Zaman
4.Kamran Akmal/Umar Siddiq
5.Umar Akmal
6.Asif Ali
7.Imad Wasim
8.Umer Khan
9.Haris Rauf
10.Shaheen Afridi
11.Mohammad Amir

Reason for Kamran Akmal is he's still one of the top PSL performers and enjoys batting on bouncy pitches.

This guy just came back from an excellent WC performance. What is wrong with you OP? It's not like PAK is full of batsmen of his caliber, even in T20

God some of our fans look to Indian cricketers as some type of idols or something, just because Kohli doesn't play bilateral t20s doesn't mean Babar should leave the format too. It improves his power hitting so why not let him play smh.

Rana sahab kia hogaya hai. :danish

Should play T20s just like Kohli, Smith, Warner do - and build more skills there.

T20s didnt hinder growth of Smith, Williamson, Kohli etc so I am not sure why it would effect Babar in any way.

Babar is 24 and is doing well in the T20 format as well and is ranked no 1 so there is not logical reason he would want to retire from T20s.

Surely he can pick and choose in T20s to keep himself fresh and fit if he feels his body needs it.

Should unleash him only in the t20 WC semi final and final to catch teams off guard.

Here we have Malik and Hafeez stuck to the team like a couple of leeches hoping to captain the side for the t20 WC and posters want Babar to retire.:))

Babar can take a rest by skipping some bilateral t20 series here and there but retirement is unnecessary and an OTT suggestion.

The question I keep asking all of you is,

What is there to gain in T20i for Babar?

Babar hardly plays 8-10 T20 Internationals in an year. So essentially this thread is saying that he shouldn’t play those.

Modern ODI cricket requires more 3D batsmen, and T20Is will help Babar develop more boundary hitting, especially six hitting skills.

Pakistan also barely have any ODIs scheduled for the next 2 years, so it is essential that he gets some practice.

Maybe later in his career they can rest him against weaker teams, but I don't know why that would be necessary for him, because if a batsman keeps him self fit, then he shouldn't be getting injured.

OP, Kohli should retire from ODIs as well and only focus on Test. Because he has proven his worth in ODIs. :))

Time to force him to retire. Been wasting a precious spot on Babar for too long with talented youngsters like Rifatullah Mohmand and Awais Zia waiting in the wings.

I would keep the akmal brothers far far far far far far far away for the pak team and babar azam
we dont want to be in a situation where they are messing with Babar Azam's mind with thier dirty filthy politics and corruption

Asif Ali needs to go and go really far away.. i dont think he is anything near an international level player

Shaheen Afridi needs to be kept away from T20 ... his focus should be ODI and Test and PSL in between to get match intense pratice of bowling yorkers and stuff

Babar should play all formats for now... would be stupid for him to stop T20 bcz this will increase his stroke play

You lost me at Kamran.

The Akmals have no place in the team and shouldn't be anywhere near their cousin Babar. Babar shouldn't even go to family functions where they are and only meet them in Eid.

Isn't he like 22?

What is this thread? :moyo2

I would nominate it for funniest thread in PP history.

He is now the ODI captain, could he made test captain. Wonder what the genius Rana thinks now.

Probaby should, no need for pointless T20i where there is nothing to gain.

No way should he retire in t20s he stil hasnt had his prime years stupid thread

I guess we don’t play enough international cricket as it is so he might as well play

But it’s pointless for him and there is nothing to gain. Test and ODI runs and achievements is where the prestige is at.
