Should games lose FC status if a compassionate substitution has to be made?

In the days of concussion substitutions, it seems silly that a game would lose FC status if a player is substituted for compassionate reasons. But according to TV commentators on the practice match, that's what would've happened if Pakistan would've taken up Australia's offer to substitute Naseem Shah to mourn the death of his mother.

Should this lead to a change in the rules for first-class games?

Odd situation but then I also question why Pakistan should be worried about this if this is a special situation?

Commentators were chuckling about Babar and Asad centuries losing status too. They weren't mean about it but the perception was implied.

It doesnt matter. Pakistan should have taken the offer of the substitute. Feel sorry for Naseem Shah

I agree. Pakistan should've and the argument that it shouldn't lose FC status could've been made later. With Pakistan leading a positive change in cricket perhaps? Turning it down makes them look at best confused and at worst lacking compassion.

Yes. Need to have some common sense rules in place for such situations.

Though I think that has little to do with the Naseem situation. If Pakistan wanted to replace him, they would've done so, I doubt the FC status of the match was a priority in this decision.

Rules are rules. I have no issues with the way the current ruling is, as sad as Naseem's situation may be :(

Definitely. Can't retroactively change decisions based on prior rulings. But moving forward since this situation has come about now, should there be a need for change for the future?

Why do you think Pakistan didn't go for Musa, Abbas or even Bhatti if they had the choice? Maybe holding a game plan for them in the next practice match?

I'm not sure about Abbas but I don't think Musa and Bhatti are in the frame for the first Test.

Maybe they plan on giving Naseem a few overs tomorrow.

well, according to reports naseem wouldve never made it for the funeral. and in pakistani cricket who knows when he would've gotten his chance again.

i think his family made the right decision to keep him there in aus.

its better he focuses on cricket then the death of his mother.
