I see a twitter trend for that but wondering if that is misguided?

Basically the idea is that all fans wear blue to show solidarity with SL team visiting Pakistan.

That'll be weird tbh. Signs showing support for SL should be enough

No need.

It is the job of the SL FANS to wear blue not the Pakistani fans.

Enough cheerleading for the opposition - time for pakistani fans to get behind their own team.

just do a big cheer when they walk into the ground... no need to wear blue... coz if they do it will take away thr purpose of them coming over... i mean yes we should thank them, but not so much that it looks like dangerous stunt... things should look smooth and as normal.

Would be nice if Ejaz Butt came and personally thanked the Lankans for coming back after what his joke administration allowed to occur last time they came.

Think would be OTT but maybe when prompted by the announcer, maybe put up some blue placards or something

If the fans want to do it, why not? Doesnt come across as an act of treason in my view.

I don't think SL's would have the nerves to look at his handsome face.

Ijaz Butt should get on his hands and knees and apologise in the Lankan dressing room. He did untold damage to Pakistan cricket with his incompetence.

Yes some message of thanks would be in order.

of course not but maybe will kill the competitiveness of the game.

I think competitiveness can be put on the sidelines until cricket returns properly to Pakistan. Showing appreciation to SL team in a way that gets noticed is important.

Sri Lanka cricket has been the friend and brother of Pakistan cricket in its most toughest moments. In 2008 when India pushed Sri Lanka to opt out of the tour to isolate Pakistan in name of security. Javed Miandad [then Board of Gov.]was sent to meet Arjuna Ranatunga and the tour happened due to Arjuna-Javed's friendship.
As a student I lived in foreign southeast Asian country where I sublet a room in a sri lankan household. Experience was wonderful. I was fortunate to find an extremely polite, down-to-earth, caring and friendly group of people. Really avoid violence and even first think about other person suffering first even if that person is against them, due to their buddhist beliefs.

Pakistan Govt. for all its inconsistencies supported and aid Sri Lankan armed forces in their most dreadful times in the late 80s. when Lankans fought suicide terrorism from LTTE. When West Indies and Australia refused to tour Sri anka due to the security situation, Pakistan board spearheaded an effort with help of then friendly BCCI to send a joint team to play Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka to prove Lankans are well able to host WOrld Cup matches.

Sri Lanka has been one friend who has been on our side where Bangladesh fell short apart from all the actions Pakistan did to get them test status and suppor ttheir cricket.

It would be great gesture and would bring goodwill if Pakistanis pay respect to Si Lankan flag and their cricket colors.

By the way dont be surprised if the stadium isnt full to its capacity. Because poor pcb still charging 1500 for a cheapest ticket

£10

ECB charges £60 for its cheapest tickets in the summer

Yes but in purchasing power terms / wealth of the population etc that's a lot of money. So unfair to compare absolute values.

Pcb should be pricing these tickets at low prices to get packed out crowds at the very least.

I think the wearing blue will be a great gesture. If nothing else it will generate something publicity and show the public is welcoming etc.

I fully expect once the match starts, that the crowd will go crazy when Hassan takes a wicket and does his celebration or Fakhar launches one into the stands or shahzad plays a delightful cut straight to point....

I hadn't realize before today that Ijaz Butt was responsible for providing security to the SL team in 2009. You learn something new every day, very insightful posts.

My friend, the return of International cricket comes at a price. They need to do something to compensate the overpriced fees they paid the Zimbabwe and PSL overseas players for the final

That answers a lot of questions. Ijaz Butt has done more to damage Pakistan cricket than most of its biggest culprits

He has, but the security failure was not his problem. He is an administrator, not the head of security. It was the failure of the provincial government.

Inshallah they will ..both Pak and Lanka crowds are generally positive and sporting unlike India and Bang

OMG, first[and probably the only time] time I agree w/ [MENTION=131701]Mamoon[/MENTION].

Ijaz Butt was ably mocked on tv talk shows for his ridiculous tenure but he was'nt responsible for security on that unfortunate day. Butt had something to do with SL touring[sending Miandad to meet SLC's Arjuna Ranatunga] or else there would'nt have been a tour.

CM Punjab was disabled at that time, Punjab was under Governor rule. Governor was Salman Taseer, who can be said of being responsible for the security lapse on the attack on Sri Lankan team. His name was mentioned in an investigation report some years later. He did'nt even resign following the attack.

What did Ijaz butt have to do with what happened to SL team last time?

Ijaz Butt shouldn't have promised "presidential style security" and then accuse the umpire caught up in the attack of lying and demand a ban on him when presidential style security turned out to be non-existent. Or not invite a team when the security and political situation in the country was highly unstable as it was in early 2009.

Butt wasn't personally responsible for security but given this unstable backdrop the PCB should've sought greater clarity over the security arrangements. Look how closely the PCB worked with Punjab Government and the ICC for the PSL final and World XI series.
