Should players who fail to perform on the big stage be shown the door despite their stats?

Babar Azam has failed when his team has needed him the most. Its time to discard his useless centuries against West Indies and show him the door until he learns to handle the pressure of big matches.

Yeah, discard the guy who has failed in his first proper tournament at the age of 22 and give a free ride to the seniors who have been failing in crunch situations for two decades.

:salute

Welcome to PP.

Need to first fire all the corrupted individuals but that would be too many.

And when i say fire
I mean with a powerful bb gun just so it inflicts some pain

I thought this thread would be for the likes of azhar hafeez etc....maybe devilliers as captain...didnt expect azam.

What happened to nurturing talent? Lol

This mean the entire Proteas team needs to be dropped

No. You need continuity. Too many changes and chops unstable the team. Players starts playing for individual stats to stay in the team. That is the opposite of team concept. Team starts to decline fast. No amount of coach can change the mentality because they are not in the middle with the players. Been there done that.

Example: The rise of BD happened because of this continuity. You lose and lose and lose and learn when there is no senior leadership. Once you learn, the victories come naturally. 33/4 and chasing down 265 with 17 balls to spare with only 1 wicket gone against Southee, Boult, Milne, Santner attack.

One or two changes are okay but not a wholesale change.

Just shows the mentality of Pakistani fans, drop the guy based on three poor games on big stage. If you wont put players in pressure situations, how will they learn how to handle big match pressure?

Let's say we drop Azam for not being able to handle pressure in 3 matches, where will you send him? Send him to play domestic matches? If that's what you were thinking, then my man you need to wake up.

The likes of Hafeez and Shehzad definitely should be dumped for being major mental midgets. Babar deserves more time because of his record so far. You can't drop a 50+ averaging player.

what stats? babar the minnow basher, malik the mediocre has been since ten or twenty years, azhar a tuk tuk, the less said abt hafeez te better

My policy is always back the player with technique until he's become a TTF. That obviously doesn't apply to younger players who are still trying to find their feet in the side.

I assume this thread applies to senior players and the TTF's. I can't disagree

Yes, if we have replacements in the squad. No, if the replacements aren't up to the mark.

But yes, they should be rested/dropped from playing XI even if they are in the squad.

Babar could've scored a match-winning 50+ against SA. He was well on course to doing so. Looked good today against SL too, but got out cheaply. Maybe if he fails against England then we can have this conversation. As of now, he deserves to play the next match.

Babar needs to be groomed well. Sack Grant Flower as the batting coach - he has been terrible; bring on his brother maybe who is way better.

The guy is 22 LOL

And he is playing his first, i repeat first ICC tournament. He has never played in such a big tournament so far.

Mentally weak players need to go, regardless of whether they are seniors or juniors.

I guess Babar should be given a few more opportunities, but if he continues to fail to perform in pressure situations then no exception should be made for him.

In terms of learning how to handle pressure situations, a few seasons of PSL can sort that out hopefully.
