Following the Queen's passing, practically every sport cancelled or postponed an event. Most sports simply stopped for a day or two, but some, notably football, postponed games for a week or more.

All football in the entire country, from professional down to grassroots, was postponed a week to much controversy. The fear from the Premier League specifically was that football fans would not faithfully observe tributes to the Queen, thus causing embarrassment.

How do you think sporting bodies should have dealt with the situation?

No.

I don't think sporting events should've been canceled or disrupted. One minute silence should be enough.

Nothing in life should stop. Those who want to sit and mourn for 10 days should do so but others shouldn't be expected to stop their lives for someone they never met, someone they never respected.

At Anfield tonight, during the mins silence thousands did not take part, as is their right. LFC have had a number of matches postponed, which has caused financial loss to the fans along with making the fixtures more congested esp in a winter World Cup year.

Its not just this country, UEFA have caused issues for Europeans.

This is why many hate the Royals, they have a direct negative impact on their lives.

Imo those who bend the knee or bow their neck should be taxed more to compensate for the free people of the world.

This is the banner from Bayerns match tonight. Brilliant.

Reminds me of when the sporting world, in particular footballers, were taking the knee for a publicity stunt, BLM.

Well, if the sporting world felt that Black Lives mattered, then the Queen's life mattered too, so cancelling games is fully justified.

There will always be another week to play sports, but there will never be another Queen Elizabeth II.

I believe the best way to honour the Queen is fans honouring her at football matches. Last week, West Ham fans sang God Save The Queen before their match, which was a beautiful moment. That is the best way to pay tribute to the Queen, in my opinion.

Queen was also a sports fan, so I doubt she would want sport events to be cancelled. I believe when her father, King George VI died back in 1952, sport events weren't postponed, so no reason to postpone them in 2022.

It’s up to the sports teams and other employers.

Monday will be very quiet in UK.

Cancelling Boxing was horrific on the Saturday for all involved, if you ignore all those who arranged the event / participants and their delayed payment, two fighters go into camp and give it everything both mentally and physically, then during fight week after a gruelling camp they are a little on edge and have to come back down again. Even for those who are strong mentally, that’s bound to have an impact. Plus Boxing is not a sport you can just delay for a week, you have to find a new date due to the multiple moving parts with TV and logistics. Given that the fight was cancelled on Saturday, it has now been rearranged for October 15th! absolutely dreadful for all involved and especially the fighters. The cricket went on, I see no reason why we couldn’t have a minutes silence, anthem or whatever and business as usual.

KingKhanWC What did you think? I was really looking forward to the undisputed bout between Shields and Marshall, this to me is the genuine biggest boxing fight in the history if women’s boxing and the first genuine rivalry, I expect it to be a real banger.

It’s harder to get stoppage in womens pro boxing as there are 2 minutes per round, but Marshall is very heavy handed and has a 83% KO percentage which is ridiculous in her sport, there is also added backstory that Marshall is the last person to have defeated Shields back in the amateur days. Shields calls herself the best in womens history and has modelled her style and gimmick on Floyd, they’ve fought some cans due to lack of depth in division but Marshall has stopped some common opponents to. The presser was hilarious and there’s a gloves are off episode between the two, the animosity is genuine. It’s a super fight in their sport and any combat sport event really to get delayed is pretty catastrophic given the unique preparation unlike any other sport.

I don't remember anyone from the monarchy making any comments to support the BLM as rightfully pointed out by ex Footballer Trevor Sinclair.

Good that they don’t support that Marxist movement. Makes me appreciate them even more.

Important to remember the impact this has, not only on participants as the boxing example above shows, but also ordinary fans.

Many people have to plan to attend this events weeks or months in advance. They might have spent a lot on travel and accommodation coming from abroad, or taking days off work to attend. How can the collective impact on all these hundreds of thousands of people be worth less than the casket parade of single monarch?

A bit hypocritical of you. Islam is based on the fact one person is more important than others.

Nothing hypocritical at all. You can't compare normal people to Prophets or religious figures. Besides I am talking about how in Islam a deceased person is laid to rest ASAP. None of these rituals of carrying a corpse around for days.

This week in Europe, the British football teams look a little off the pace compared with their European counterparts having missed game time due to the royal commemorations.

I like both of these lady fighters, love Marshalls sarcastic charisma and Shields not holding back in trash talk. It was a big night not just for these two but all the ladies on the card, the hard work & preparation , weight correct etc takes a lot of work and energy. For the fight to be called off so late for this reason is a disgrace imo. No consideration taken for the athletes and all the fans who have spent a lot of money, some coming from the US to support Shields. I will be watching when it takes place, Marshall has the power to make history but Shields is a great boxer, great styles for this fight.

Mayer/Baum Gardner is a brilliant chief support fight on the same card. Think of the money these guys have lost on things like sparring/general prep etc fans wont get 100% compensation as well. Look forward to the 15th next month though will be great value on sky sports

Bro ladypool road, stratford rd and cov road will be alive and kicking :akhtar

They know this, reason why so many brothers are shown on BBC news singing hymes. :moyo

I hope Boxxer who made the decision to postpone compensate them esp for the sparring partners, which dont come cheap if they are decent. The girls arent earning anywhere near what the chaps earn which is understandable but means this will be a bigger loss for them.

Now we have King Charles who is over 70. Imagine he dies when the World Cup is on or in 6 months, we will have to go through this again.
