A very good batsmen I think he averages over 50 in FC and has been playing well in IPL for DD.He's from Mumbai too.I think he can be a very good player for India in next 2-3 years He's only 19 and played for India U19 in last U19 WC.
 
Good prospect but need atleast 1-2 more FC seasons before national call up.(Or can play against BD/Zim)
 
A very bright prospect for us. Should be a part of the India A squad which plays Aus A in June

I have seen him in Ranjis and i am convinced that he is not a good test player. But he can be a good odi player in the future, a natural stroke player.
 
Really jealous of India. Abundance of talent in all departments especially the batting.
 
Needs 2-3 years still before playing for india. Is good enough to bash SL ( minus malinga), zim & wi though.

He played excellently in Kanpur on a seaming trackand turning track in Chennai.In the Chennai match only he handle Shah and Rangarajan in the first innings.
 
He is an excellent prospect. Should be in the Bangladesh Zim tour and Aus A series

Would be in the team soon .

Doesnt have a good front foot stride for the drive or defence. Will struggle vs swing bowlers imo. Compare his front foot play with rahane & vijay.

Needs atlest 6-8mths with P. Amre & 2-3 seasons of domestics.

I rank nair higher. But he too has flaws. Needs to develop the cut & pull shots otherwise he'll be bounced out by intl pacers.

Unfortunately scoring 50 and 56 , doesn't count as excellent. BTW scoring on turning track should be bread and butter for our batsman.

He can be a good prospect in ODIs but will struggle to survive in tests

Yeah that's why he also scored 150 @ Kolkata and averaged 50+ despite starting the season at 7 .

And yeah they were excellent .Becoz he showed excellent technique to play the spinners and turn

I don't think his trigger movement is bad may be I have to watch more closely lol

He plays them very late though kinda like VVS .So should hold him in good stead against swing

Also has terrific attitude .Both his Kanpur and Chennai knocks were good counter attacks from desperate positions .

Yeah he needs at least a season or two and may be few A tour matches as well before being drafted into the test team .We have no need to hurry with the options we have .But he definitely is the best talent we have had since Rahane
 
I think, next 2 batting greats from IND could be Lokesh Rahul & Hanuma Vihari, may be Test opening pair in next few years. Rahul probably everyone knows now, but Vihari is going to be a hell of a Test player, very much Hydrabadi own brand - wristly elegence. He is a batsman, once set can bat for hours; can't tell much about Iyer, haven't seen him; but batsmen groomed in Bombay hardly misses out, if identified as a talent at young age. There was another Muslim kid, Wasim Zafar's nephew, forgot his name.........

Rishi Dhawan plays for small team Himachal Pradesh(which is in second division) so his stats are slightly skewed.From what I have seen of him,doesn't quite look international standard.

This guy is good. Call up for Indian senior team is not very far. Hopefully they can select him for Bangladesh series

Watched the later part of innings, i know this may be a strange comparison but some of his shots reminded me of Ijaz Ahmed.

He is a rare talent who can easily change gears at any point in the innings and that too with full conviction.
 
he is getting better vs pace too. Needs to work a little bit on bouncers. As in needs to read bouncers better. He has the skill to play those shots vs bouncers but he needs to apply himself a little better. .
Great talent.

Test call is waiting. He can replace rahane and potentially pujara along with Rahul in the middle order.

No test call, not at all.
Horizontal bat slashing is a big part of his game, don't think he is a test material.
Moreover gill, shawa, sarfaraz are waiting in line.

Preferably, Rahul should bat in top 4 given his talent but he got his chance to make that position his own before World Cup and he failed to grab it. Shreyas Iyer, on other hand, grabbed it will both hands.

For me, Gill is the next big thing for India and I would like to see him in 2023 World Cup. Shaw is very talented too and has got great hunger for runs but often on slower or seaming pitches, he literally bats like a hack. His technical weakness can be easily exploited by international quality of bowlers in longer format of the game and his fitness is very poor as well. Paddikal also looks like an exciting prospect.

Bowling is not a worry till 2023 World Cup. After that, we will have to see how things go depending on where these youngsters Mavi, Nagarkoti, Tyagi stand at that time.

With Pandya in there, we honestly need just 2 top quality Pacers going into 2023 WC with 1 support bowler.

Bumrah is one
Shami , let's see if he's still a force by 2023

We won in 2011 going in with Munaf Patel, Ashish Nehra so clearly the formula to win in India does not necessarily require Cummins, Rabada type test level pacers

We had batting depth in 2011. Remains to be seen who they back till 2023 but they've made bad choices for the middle order in recent years like Yuvraj, Rayudu and Pandey.

We did give away 20 runs more than we should have in 2011 final.

Had Gambhir and Dhoni not played clutch knocks, we would have been ruining the golden opportunity criticizing our bowling like up till this day.
 
Not the most pleasing batsmen to watch but he can really bat. Has brute force. I wonder how he will do in SENA conditions. Should be a regular soon.
 
He is destined for big things in Indian cricket. India's next captain after Virat Kohli.

He may not be the best batsmen in that team but will be very impactful cricketer for India.

A very talented flat track bully, that will usually struggle to put on bat on ball in countries like SA & AUS. The shot he got out to yesterday was legendary, almost like he was holding a cricket bat for the first time. Lets see how this champ will do for rest of the summer, Aussie bowlers will be peppering him short balls, this will be fun to watch..
 
Wastrel fodder piece of trash dud Cannon tin hatted milksop is an absolute can in bouncy wickets. Can't play the bouncer if his life depends on it.

He is only good outside Australia and South Africa.

What did I just read :))

Regarding Iyer I haven't seen much of him so you might know more but has he played enough SENA games where it's confirmed he can't play pace/bounce? Otherwise, shouldn't he be given a chance to see, at the very least, how he'll do in this Aus tour?
 
He is a really good player with a bright future. Just needs to work a bit on short bowling and I am sure he will put in the hard yards. He has the work ethic.

And you were defending him when I said that he has issues against pace and short bowl during the IPL final?

He should be given a decent amount of run if he fails here but why this difference in opinion all of a sudden now?

He is good vs pace but he can play bounce at all. I don't rate him if he can't play bounce. I know he can blast teams in other condtions but for me that's not good enough.

I din't know his ability vs short balls was THAT bad. Then I saw him in IPL and now vs Australia. Yea I have seen enough. had enough. he is done. His career is over ourside slow low bouncy, flat wickets. Not sure if he can play swing? But his ability vs bounce is just absolutely horrendous.
 
The way he got out yesterday was very funny.I don't understand if India has so much talent why they Keep picking these hacks

It's okay, just one game now. Ganguly also struggled Vs pace and short bowl stuffs. I think he will do well in long run for us, has age on his side.

Manish Pandey plays pace and bounce better but Iyer is better in other aspects of batting, may not do well in tests though away from home.

I think India needs to pick players based on who excels in a given condtions

Like pick Pandey, Shaw, pant, maybe Gill etc for bouncy wickets.

Gill, Iyer and technically correct beaten like Panchal etc for swing condtions.

For flat wickets pick pretty much anyone.

Iyer is unproven for swing conditions also. But in white ball cricket, there is hardly any swing except maybe first 2-3 overs which generally openers play. He is good in building and anchoring the inning and can smash spinners for fun and that should work at 4-5.

Pandey is inconsistent and performs once in a blue moon.
 
What do Indian selectors have against Manish Pandey?
I would prefer him instead of iyer in the test squad
 
I am not a fan of him and dont think he will go far. People blame Pandya as spin basher but its actually Nair who can only slog against spin but a sitting duck against genuine pace. I would replace him with Subhman Gill at no 4.
 
Indian team management has full faith in him and will back him to come good just like they are backing hardik pandya..

Shreyas is slightly an unorthodox player and a very arrogant guy too. These two combinations along with previously destroying Sri Lanka and recent IPL he was always going to do this type of crap.
 
People are over reacting. There are only 2 bouncers allowed an over and as a middle order batsman Iyer won’t be facing the lead fast bowlers of the team before his eyes sets in. He is better than Raina for sure and Raina has enough runs in Australia. I don’t think Iyer is going to vanish just because of his issues with short balls.
 
Needs to work on short bowling the way he played that ball he looked totally clueless

India's ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been admitted to a hospital in Sydney and is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after suffering internal bleeding resulting from a rib cage injury sustained during the third match against Australia. Iyer, who had taken a brilliant catch running backwards from backward point to dismiss Alex Carey, appeared to have hurt his left rib cage in the process and was rushed to the hospital soon after returning to the dressing room on Saturday.

"Shreyas has been in ICU for the past couple of days. After the reports came in, internal bleeding was detected, and he had to be admitted immediately.

"He will remain under observation for anywhere between two to seven days depending on recovery, as one needed to stop spreading of infection due to bleeding," a source privy to the development told PTI on condition of anonymity.

The BCCI medical team acted swiftly after Iyer's vital parameters fluctuated upon his return to the dressing room.

"The team doctor and physio didn't take any chances and took him to the hospital immediately. Things are stable now, but it could have been fatal. He's a tough lad and should be fine soon," the source added.

Initially, Iyer was expected to be out of action for about three weeks, but the recovery period may now be longer.

"Since there has been internal bleeding, he will certainly need more time to recover, and at this point, it's difficult to put a definite timeline on his return to competitive cricket," the source said.

The 31-year-old is expected to remain in the Sydney hospital for at least a week before being declared fit to travel back to India. Iyer is not part of India's T20 squad.

Good to see Shreyas spending time at the crease at Adelaide when ball was darting around, Hazelwood was also generating immense bounce from that wicket, finally Shreyas to some extent has conquered his short ball weakness unlike our new captain who can't buy a run outside comforts of highways/ flat roads.

Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding on 25th October during the third ODI against Australia.

The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested. His condition is now stable, and he continues to be under observation. A repeat scan done on Tuesday, 28th October, has shown significant improvement, and Shreyas is on the road to recovery. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, will continue to monitor his progress.

Some positive news on the dashing right-hander as he recovers from injury in Australia.

India have confirmed key batter Shreyas Iyer has been discharged from hospital on Saturday as he continues his recovery from an abdomen injury.

Iyer picked up the injury while fielding during the third ODI against Australia at the SCG recently and has been in hospital ever since as he battled with a laceration of his spleen and internal bleeding.

30But Iyer's recovery has since gone well, with India releasing a statement on Saturday to confirm the 30-year-old has been released from hospital and will remain in Sydney until he is fit to fly home.

"Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on 25th October 2025, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding," the BCCI said via a statement.

"The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested following a minor procedure.

"He has undergone appropriate medical management for the same.

"He is now stable and recovering well.

"The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are pleased with his recovery, and he has been discharged from the hospital today.

"The BCCI extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr Koroush Haghighi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for ensuring Shreyas received the best treatment for his injury.
