I am not too sure about this!

So we were told that smog was a serious health issue and therefor West Indies did not visit or play in Lahore in November and everyone accepts that as a good reason.

But then Sri Lanka complain about this and are told to get on with it!

SL protest may well have been a symbolic one fact that many of us are expecting them to get on with it in Delhi whilst other teams are supported for not playing in same conditions is not on.

Sri Lanka also played in Lahore when there was smog..

You could easily see it on tv.

WI series had other problems too like BPL commitments..

Money what else India series is big for SL if there star players are fit they will be selected and expected to play.. I think even ISL matches are going on in Delhi right now? So those guys are playing as well in Delhi.. It’s a health concern for the players that is true however it’s a big health concern for people who live in Delhi who have to breathe this poison everyday.. Let’s see if it will ever get better

Any action.i mean long term planning for this from indian government to decrease this??

Nobody should be forced to play if the air quality is poor. Health is more important than a game.

My only issue is that Lankans did not complain about the Smog during the toss. They were practicing in Delhi for the last 1 week and no peep uttered a word. Now that they are in a position to where they can get hammered in the Test, they pulled out their Masks made it an issue.

I am with Lankans that they should not be forced to play. However, Lankans should have refused to play before the Toss itself. Not after getting a whipping from Indian batsmen. Sounds like an excuse to escape the defeat.

Also, BCCI should be slapped for going with the Delhi Test. They could have changed the schedule considering the Smog easily. Smog did not come out of no where. It was in the News for the last 2 months. More than enough time to change the venue. Pathetic scheduling from BCCI.

Ganguly said that Smog also resulted in a match being canceled last year

Limiting diesel cars, banning cars older than 10 years I think increasing public transport.. But these steps are too little and not being followed properly.. Problem is Delhi is way too overpopulated and shares border with two worst states UP and Haryana who don’t really care about pollution it seems... Maybe they have undertaken more steps but I’m not aware of it..

Factories get away with bribing officials if they release toxic gases.
Construction takes forever and do not follow green tribunal guidelines, again bribery.
Farmers burn crop no alternative provided to them so as to they don’t burn crops, falls in a different state so Delhi government can’t do much here central government should take step here.
Rapid construction/deforestation surrounding areas near Delhi.. When you only have few places which offer good opportunities people will migrate there and the city will be ruined that’s what is happening in Delhi..

Long term solution should fix the above points and make other cities job hubs throughout India so that population of Delhi does not keep on exploding.. With the amount of population in NCR and disposable income and cheap cars available these days and overcrowded public transport pollution will always be a factor until 10-15 more industrial hubs are opened up throughout India which offer same job market as NCR..

Bangalore/Mumbai probably have same problem but they are near the sea so it’s not that big of an issue in those cities I guess..

I don’t have much hope tbh when I have a kid I wouldn’t want him to grow i in Delhi..

This game should be abandoned and the Delhi shouldn't host anything within foreseeable future.

Crowds aren't as important as the reputation of the country..

Smog at the stadium crossed 400 on day 3, resulting in vomiting and breathing issues for half the Sri Lankan team (a country where pollution levels are among lowest in the region).

Even Ashwin had an oxygen nebuliser after he got out, as per Cricbuzz article.

So obviously things worsened today

Answer is the same. Do you want to wield the power at the expanse of being laughing stock in the world?

I have posted my views in this thread and other thread however what I am telling you is that the ban on Kotla as a venue won’t happen.. The pollution effects your own people if you don’t care about their health/life then getting bad press in certain sections of international media would hardly effect you.. You = Authorities

Shameful. Indian govt should take strict steps to deal with it. Also Delhi populace has to be co-operative. The pollution issue is not new for Delhi. It is more than a decade when Delhi air was deemed dangerous. As dangerous as a reason for lung cancer. Nothing has been done since then. It was bound to happen. Now we can expect some major steps. This will become election issue if not dealt with immediately.

Pretty similar to the scenario where a terrorist attack in India, all International players come to India to play Cricket under the pretext of "Solidarity with Indians", "No to terrorism", "Must not let terrorists win" but if a terrorist attack takes place in Pakistan, no tours to Pakistan for the next 20-50 years until "100 % Security guarantees are provided and arrangements made".

Please spare us the victim mentality.

The difference is that no team in India has been attacked directly. Teams will stop touring India if they welcome a team with rocket-launchers and AK-47s, injuring numerous players.

Terrorism has been commonplace in Pakistan since 9/11. However, teams like England, South Africa, New Zealand, India etc. continued to tour. In 2001, there was a bomb blast outside New Zealand's hotel in Karachi, but that did not stop South Africa and England from touring over the next couple of years.

However, the Sri Lankan attack in 2009 was the straw that broke the camel's back - had it not happened, teams would be still touring Pakistan. Till that point, the widespread belief was that terrorists will not target sportsmen. That event was an eyeo-pener.

It is unfortunate that we are so eager to play the victim card that we lose all sight of reality, and fail to think clearly and logically.

The difference is that the Sri Lankan team had already been in India, so they simply went ahead with the game. The West Indies were touring Pakistan to specifically play in Lahore, so it was not feasible.

If they would have been in Pakistan already and playing matches at other venues, the match in Lahore would probably have gone ahead in spite of the smog.

Bangalore is not near to sea. But there are lots of trees grown (though the quantity is coming down with years, still pretty good) There are places like Lal Bagh & Cubbon Park at the centre of the city which probably absorbs most pollution! The neighboring districts Mysore, Tumkur, etc and Karnataka overall is pretty good with greens, but that doesn't mean we should keep dumping waste...

Rest of your points about Delhi is right... Yes they should develop other areas & states surrounding it, only then population overflow can be controlled (But amazingly Bangalore is been able to control overpopulation in terms of pollution, but pollution is not the only problem associated with overpopulation there are other problems which it brings!)

I guarantee you that International teams will still turn up to play Cricket in India even if a team is attacked over there. IPL $$$ talks.

So which one is your problem?

1.Teams touring India?
2.Teams not touring Pakistan?
3.IPL $$$?

FYI India regularly holds international events that are not related to cricket.

His problem was the pollution not stopping play.
