A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing offshore assets of the ruling Sharif family submitted its final report to the Supreme Court, which concludes that Maryam Nawaz is indeed the real and ultimate beneficial owner of the Avenfield apartments.

After the report was made public, it was revealed that the font used on the submitted documents by the Sharif family was in Calibri, which was not commercially available before 31st January, 2007.

Following the font fiasco, the Calibri Wikipedia page has seen some strange and elevated activity all of a sudden. Since yesterday, there have been 25 revisions on the page by 15 different users.

You can see the most recent edits made on Calibri’s Wikipedia page here:

Upon investigation, it was found that most of the revisions being made were focused on changing the release date of the font. No marks for guessing why this was the case.

Officially, the Calibri font was made available to the public with the release of Microsoft Office 2007. In one update, carried out on 11th July at 07:15, the information was changed from Microsoft Office 2007 to Microsoft Office 2003.

Just in case you don’t know, Wikipedia is one of the most famous websites worldwide, widely used for finding information quickly.

Since the website is open for public editing, it is evident that some PML-N affiliates or supporters are tinkering with the information and misleading others just as how Maryam Nawaz did with Supreme Court and JIT. Their rivals on the other hand, can’t resist changing back the date to its original one.

Some documents submitted in JIT by Maryam from 2006 used the font Calibri but Calibri font was only made public for use in 2007.

so she did not submit it or those were fake??? i cant understand the scenario..

:)) This has to be one of the funniest things coming out of the JIT report. Caught red handed.

Hilarious stuff.

Like rabbits caught in the headlights.

Makes me proud as a Brit. Which firm? They deserve some serious plaudits for this.

In reality font was available before the date mentioned in JIT's report.
However, it's highly likely that Maryam's team forged the docs.

Anyway, forensic team failed.

Maybe you can write to the forensics team in London and explain your role as the defender of corrupt politicians and tell them that they dont know their job but you the keyboard warrior does.

As far as my understanding is the font is just one of the reasons the documents have been deemed fake by the JIT.

N-league supporters will even suggest that the UK based forensic firm is also involved in 'saazish' against Nawaz Sharif. Reality is that the odds of someone using the calibri font before Jan 2007, specially for a legal document, are probably in line with predicting the three no balls by Amir and Asif.

The font was introduced for commercial use in 2007 so there is no chance of them using it in 2006. This is clear fraud by the sharif family.

There is a theory being floated around that the font could be manually downloaded from Microsoft's website from dec 2005 onwards. Not sure how authentic this story is.

Yeah some know-it-all over the internet has more forensic capabilities than a UK firm who are earning their rozi roti through forensic investigations.

Wikipedia should only allow journalists with verfied accounts to edit their pages. It used to have good sources(still do) but with their current set up any khawaja, Ivan and Antonopoulos can add his nonsense.

This reminds me of one of my favorite jokes...

In a circus, there is a human cannonball. He is the best human cannonball in the history of human cannonballs. One day though, he decides he's had enough of this taxing job. He goes over to the circus manager, and announces that he is retiring.

The circus manager is aghast. He says...

Do you understand that Calibri is ONE of many frauds that were exposed by Supreme Court followed by JIT investigation? ICIJ journalists had already exposed Maryam baji on social media providing docs with her name as beneficial owner? No one in the world has so far questionined the authenticity of these documents (remember PMs had to resign/clarify assets ONLY based on these docs) and Maryam baji PRODUCED these docs in Calibri to prove ICIJ docs false.

This is from legal point of view, if you start discussing their conflicting statements and hundreds of lies about whether these properties were owned, rented, settled, purchased in 90s or 2006 then even a 10 year old knows how much sense it makes.

I am surprised Maryam didn't tweet documents Calibri main hu yah greek font main, documents documents hoti hain.

Lol no the jit report said that calibri font was used which was released in 2007 so it is likely the documents are forged. And the author of the font and Microsoft have both weighed in on this according to them the font was released with office 07 in Dec 06 for corporate and Jan 07 and it would not have been possible for someone to have used it before those dates. Jit report does not say that the documents are forged because of the fonts it is just one of the reasons given for them likely to be forged. So forensic was correct in identifying that the font used was unavailable at the time for public use so documents likely to be false.

Got to feel for Nawaz Sb. The whole universe is conspiring against him. For want of a font..a kingdom was lost?

Well, that should seal the debate about the calibri release date for any rational person. Unless the Sharifs had access to the font before even the release of the beta, the documents are fake.

Anything can be expected from noon league supporters though. They may even suggest Lucas De Groot, creator of Calibri, is involved in saazish against Nawaz Sharif haha.

I am not disputing likelihood of forged documents.
I am disputing the availability date of font (which is not the same as release date)

According to the article above the Beta of the font wasn't even available before June 2006. One would really have to be in the inner circle of Microsoft Office to have access to the font before then

Creator clearly said that final code was available by March 2004.

They discussed this on ZHK yesterday. It wasn't really "available" in 2004. It was being tested within Microsoft in 2004, and then available for beta testing in August 2006, the earliest when someone could've downloaded it and used it, which is still beyond the date on Maryam's documents. It is unlikely that someone would've downloaded it for use on legal documents. Why would they?

It was sold to Microsoft in 04 not released so doesn't matter when it was created what matters is that it was not available publicly. Btw if I recall correctly all laser printers mark the page to identify the printer.

In your desperation to defend the corrupt, your comprehension skills allude you. Read what he said about the Font and when the docs were forged. Mate get over it, your crooks have been caught, you have lost.

I would be hilarious if they checked and found that the printer model wasn't even in production when the documents were supposedly printed.

Then they will claim Konica Minolta is part of the conspiracy too.

I am not disputing if the docs were forged or not. Most likely they are.

I want to clarify a distinction.

Suppose you travel back in time to march 2004 (maybe even little earlier) and you are pretty resourceful and really wanted that font, you would be able to use that.
However if you go to back to 2001, it's impossible to use that font.

According to Rana Sanaullah Calibri is Fone (Phone) not Font :)))

<blockquote class="twitter-video" data-lang="en"><p lang="ur" dir="rtl">کیلبری "فونٹ" ہے رانا صاحب "فون" نہیں ہے، کچھ پڑھ کہ آجایا کرو: فواد چوہدری<a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Calibri?src=hash">#Calibri</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/fawadchaudhry">@fawadchaudhry</a> <a href="https://t.co/oFba9i7biI">pic.twitter.com/oFba9i7biI</a></p>— Maryam Shabbir (@S_Maryam8) <a href="https://twitter.com/S_Maryam8/status/884848053030535168">July 11, 2017</a></blockquote>

Lol maybe Rana Sahinb learned this from Wikipedia. Blame the editor of Calibri's page not Rana Sanaullah. The deep state edited Calibri font's page to mislead Rana Sanaullah.

Hahaha.

This is one of the most desperate things I've read all year. :91:

#Calibri is the top trend on Twitter Pakistan from last 2 days :))

Aj bhi Nawaz chor hai Calibri Nawaz chor tha..

I am trying (and seemingly failing) to point out that "available" neq available.

I am trying (and seemingly failing) to point out that "available" neq available.

What argument are you making though? Earlier you mentioned that the forensic team failed.

Even if what you are saying is true, one would have to be very resourceful to access that font even before beta testing. It will be a real stretch to accept the argument that this font could be used to generate legal document at a time when Times New Roman was the norm. Therefore, the forensic team is justified in their decision.

So in short Maryam really needed that font for her legal docs? She paid someone inside Microsoft to get her hands on the font... Interesting!

That font had superpowers that she got a wahee first that its being developed and then convinced the legal advisor to obtain it somehow and then use it on a legal document for the first time ever :))

(Using the original meaning of the term... font is synonymous with fount)

Be

the font was availible but as a beta.
No person in the whole word would go through all the hassel of licensing then downloading a font that isnt availible yet to the general public.

Anyone will use the font that is already selected.

To be honest, isnt the calibri point a really minor point.

People are making this as if its a mjaor breakthrough.

In worse this will only prove forged documents were presented

Stupid stuff by people who are editting the wikipedia page

All this gives new meaning to Sans Sharif, sorry, Sans Serif. Calibri is afterall a Sans Serif typeface.

The internet also says Calibri is a "humanist" font, whatever that is, something the Sharifs can't be accused of being.

These documents were shown as proof that Maryam was a trustee. These forged documents along with BVI confirmation destroys her entire case. Not to mention it adds another criminal offence to the list. The cherry on top is that Maryam has become a laughing stock in the country.

Dawn has reached out to LucasFont, creator of Calibri font...

"As discussed with Lucas, here is what we can say about the Calibri release dates: Lucas started designing Calibri in 2002 and sent the final source files to Microsoft not before March 2004."

The reply goes on to add although beta versions of the Microsoft Vista Operating System (codenamed Longhorn) were subsequently made available — LucasFont said Microsoft could say when exactly — "early Windows betas are intended for programmers and technology freaks to see what works and what doesn’t."

"As the file size of such operating systems is huge, it would have been a serious effort to get," the reply added, possibly to address the question of whether such a beta version of a software may have been used by whoever drafted the documents for Maryam Nawaz.

"As far as I know, the first public beta versions of Calibri were published in 2006. We do not know the exact date for this public release date [but] it is [still] extremely unlikely that somebody would copy fonts from a beta environment to use in official documents," it adds.

I don't see why somebody will install a Beta font back in 2006 or early, highly unlikely. They have caught forging the doc, this would be key evidence. Most likely reason they used Calibri font in that doc(mostly like a forged one), because that is default font in recent times, maybe whenever the wrote the doc :)

The Calibri Font Is Threatening to Bring Down Pakistan’s Government

Wikipedia finds itself at center of the controversy because its entry on the font suggests a key document is fake

Wikipedia’s editors voted Tuesday to take the drastic step of locking the online encyclopedia’s article about the Calibri font. The reason: It is at the heart of a massive scandal that began in Panama and could end up toppling the Pakistani government.

The so-called “Calibri controversy” (or #FontGate as it is being dubbed online) began after the Panama Papers leak in 2016, when a trove of documents belonging to the Mossack Fonseca law firm revealed a complex web of offshore holdings by the world’s political and financial elite.

Among those caught in the net was a firm linked to Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s daughter, Maryam Nawaz, prompting the country’s top court to form an investigative committee.

On Monday, Pakistan’s Joint Investigation Team published its report into Maryam Nawaz’s holdings and made a startling revelation: Nawaz did disclose her ties to the firm, called Nielsen and Nescoll Ltd.

There was only one problem. According to local reports, the probe found that Nawaz’s 2006 declaration regarding the firm was typed in Calibri – a font that was only made publicly available in 2007, raising suspicions that the documents were forged.

As a result, local media and political wonks rushed to Wikipedia to discover the truth behind the claim – and some, possibly overly eager to defend their prime minister, even attempted to change the article’s content to claim that Calibri was available as early as 2004.

The font, at least according to Wikipedia, was indeed developed in 2004, but only went public with the launch of Microsoft Vista and Microsoft Office 2007, where the sans-serif typeface was to become the word processing giant’s default font.

While Wikipedia is famous for its reluctance to impose restrictions on the collective editing process that makes it unique, locking articles to anonymous edits is a possibility. However, this is usually reserved for extremely controversial topics like Donald Trump, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the prophet Mohammed.

After the publication of the JIT report, Wikipedia administrators and editors began the process of nominating and then voting in favor of temporarily locking the article.

“Please do not let people edit this font [page] as people are trying to save a corrupt political party on corruption charges by changing this entry,” one user wrote in defending the lock.

“It’s rare that a Wiki article gets directly embroiled in an international-level political scandal,” wrote another user who supported the lock. “The speed and efficiency with which this article was protected and its integrity preserved by the Admins is an example and proof that the Wiki model works,” they added.

Exactly, its ridiculous from black zero to argue over this.

Logically no one would select a special font for that document.

But lets see how serious will the court take this point

What an absolute farce... I was in hysterics earlier. Hopefully now, Pakistan will go on to achieve wonderful things without the baggage of Nawaz sharif (and family) MQM (throughouly exposed) and PPP (traitors).
Time for Imran Khan to prove his mettle as PM, yes I'm aware of his shortcomings, I'm not oblivious to them.. But he has the most ability from the crop.

That's just one of many mistakes, forged documents, false testimonies, contradicting statements, perpetual lies, corruption.. The list is endless even if you put the font aside.. You'll still find the documents are forged. The relative body passed the documents off as forged, they are experts in their field, it's their bread and butter. I wouldn't try and defend people whom are tirelessly working to bring down Pakistan... Much like Zardari and co did some years ago. Fasten your seatbelt and enjoy the spectacle of the mafia being brought to their knees and running around like headless chickens. Thanks.

Let's get one thing straight Maryam Nawaz was not writing a letter to her phupi here. This is a legal document that was generated and no law professional in his right mind would create a legal document on a font that is in its testing stage.

You are no wrong course here...

What raises more doubts is the fact that 'Calibri' is a default font for MS-Word in recent times. If that was some random xyz font(that you have to select manually), than one can look into this theory of beta font being used. Probability of somebody forging a doc later on using, default font at some later time(a lazy and non nerdy effort), is much higher than the user buying a computer with MS-Word with beta font installed... You have to be font nerd to know the details of this level, there forger team was not that nerdy to write the doc in an older font, it looks like they just picked the defaults(like most people do) and keep going...Its a case of caught red handed, something they did not thought through while forging...

I bet you after this incident, everywhere in Pakistan, people will consultant font and style nerds(lets not use a style and fonts that were not invented back then) before presenting forged documents in the court room. ;-)

Think, if you do not like default font, then basically you have arial and calibri first two sensible options.

If we assume that docs are not forged, then pc was setup be someone who does not like default settings. Which is not far fetched considering if you are already on beta os.

Anyway, court record the time and date, when stamp papers are issued. And there should be copies somewhere.

Simple minded people are only fixated on the font issue because that is the only thing they can try to wrap their heads around. What about JIT saying that the Sharif family was living beyond the means of their declared income, or how Ishaq Dar's net worth increased a FREAKING NINETY ONE TIMES IN ONE SINGLE YEAR.

For the simple minded Noora lovers, Nawaz's work permit application for Saudi, keep in mind as sitting PM he was also working as a chairman of a company and earning 10,000 Dirhams per month Mashallah.
