Pakistan should make use of Fakhar's hot form for me.

TSHWANE: Proteas white-ball captain, Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the upcoming four-match KFC T20 international series against Pakistan after suffering a Grade One hamstring strain.

The injury took place during the third and final Betway ODI on Wednesday.

Heinrich Klaasen will lead the Proteas for the purposes of the series.

Reeza Hendricks has withdrawn from the series after the birth of he and his wife’s first-born child on Tuesday.

Dwaine Pretorius has not been medically cleared to take part in the series as he continues rehabilitation from a rib fracture.

Rassie van der Dussen will continue treatment and monitoring of his Grade One left quadriceps muscle strain.

Why to unsettle your best batsman for a disgrace.. rizwan must open with fakher

Our playing XI should be:

1. Fakhar
2. Rizwan (wk)
3. Babar (c)
4. Hafeez
5. Haider
6. Faheem
7. Nawaz
8. Hasan
9. Shaheen
10. Qadir
11. Rauf

That top 5 is just outstanding, cant wait to see their batting exploits in the T20 series.

1. F. Zaman
2. M. Rizwan
3. B. Azam
4. Sharjeel Khan
5. M. Hafeez
6. H. Ali/ M. Wasim( depends if Pakistan want to play an extra 6th bowler since M. Hafeez doesn't bowl anymore for reasons unknown to me)
7. F. Ashraf
8. M. Nawaz
9. H. Ali
10. Shaheen Afridi
11. Haris Rauf

Why is their no spin in the bowling attack. That's pretty concerning.
The bowling will be the main focus looking forward.

Our playing XI should be:

1. Fakhar
2. Rizwan (wk)
3. Babar (c)
4. Hafeez
5. Haider
6. Faheem
7. Nawaz
8. Hasan
9. Shaheen
10. Qadir
11. Rauf

This team should get the go ahead. I wouldn't mind Hasnain in place of either Hasan or Rauf but everything else is kind of spot on.

we are missing Imad wasim since shadab is injured but If I was to include usman, then a batsman spot will be gone and our batting will just become weak

The top 6 needs to be:

1. Sharjeel
2. Rizwan
3. Babar
4. Zaman
5. Hafeez
6. Haider

Rizwan has done a wonderful job opening and you can't displace him, whilst both Sharjeel and Zaman are a must.

Zaman has batted at no. 4 previously and has been successful in T20's, hence why he wouldn't be out of the place at that position.

Mohammad Hafeez will become the second Pakistan player and sixth overall to feature in 100 T20Is when he takes the field against South Africa in first of the four men’s Twenty20 Internationals at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Hafeez, 40, is one shy of reaching the three-figure mark and all set to join the exclusive club of Shoaib Malik (116), Rohit Sharma (111), Martin Guptill, Eoin Morgan and Ross Taylor (102) who have appeared in 100 or more T20Is since the inception of the shortest format of the game in February 2005.

Hafeez featured in Pakistan’s first-ever T20I in August 2006 in Bristol and scored 46 in Pakistan’s five wickets victory over England. Interestingly, Hafeez’s 50th appearance was also at the Wanderers Stadium against South Africa in November 2013 when he as captain took two for 25 and scored 13 not out as the hosts beat Pakistan by four runs in a rain-shortened match.

While Hafeez will be aiming to join Shoaib in the list of players to have played in 100 or more T20Is, he will also be looking to score, at least, 13 runs that will help him leapfrog Shoaib as Pakistan’s leading run-scorer in T20Is.

Shoaib has to date scored 2,335 runs in 116 T20Is, while Hafeez is sixth on the list with 2,323 runs in 99 matches.

Hafeez has represented Pakistan in five of the six ICC T20 World Cups since 2007, but missed the 2009 campaign in England, which Pakistan won under Younis Khan at Lord’s.

While Hafeez will be looking for double celebrations on Saturday, Pakistan will be targeting to carry the momentum of the ODI series and make a winning start in the four-match series.

On the ICC T20I rankings, Pakistan is sitting in fourth place on 260 points while South Africa is sixth on 251 points. England is on top of the tree with 272 points, followed by India (270) and Australia (267).

If Pakistan win all four matches, they will earn four points and move to 264 points to reduce the gap to three points with Australia. However, if the series result in reversed, then both the side will swap places with South Africa rising to fourth on 259 points and Pakistan dropping to sixth on 254 points.

In case of a 3-1 series win, Pakistan will rise to 262 points while South Africa will slip to 249 points – 19 points behind seventh-ranked Afghanistan. A 2-2 series result will mean Pakistan will stay fourth on 259 points and South Africa will maintain sixth position on 252 points.

In the ICC T20I Player Rankings, Pakistan captain Babar Azam is the highest-ranked player on either side. The champion batsman is ranked third behind Dawid Malan (England) and Aaron Finch (Australia) but has a chance to narrow the gap with Australia opener whom he trails by 29 points.

Rassie van der Dussen is the next high-ranked batsman in seventh position, followed by Hafeez (46th), Mohammad Rizwan (47th) and Fakhar Zaman (50th), while Heinrich Klaasen, who will captain South Africa in the absence of Temba Bavuma is ranked 91st.

In the bowling table, Tabraiz Shamsi will start-off as the number-one ranked bowler, followed by Shaheen Afridi (12th), Faheem Ashraf (19th) and Mohammad Nawaz (64th).

Babar Azam will be captaining Pakistan in his sixth series since taking over as T20I captain from Sarfaraz Ahmed in October 2019. His side lost 2-0 to Australia, beat Bangladesh 2-0, drew 1-1 with England, won 3-0 with Zimbabwe, and won 2-1 against South Africa.

On a head to head, South Africa lead Pakistan by 9-8, including 4-3 on their turf. Barring a 10-wicket victory in the first-ever T20I between the two sides at the Wanderers in February 2007, South Africa’s other three wins have been narrow ones – four runs at Wanderers in 2013, six runs at Newlands in 2019 and seven runs at Wanderers in 2019.

In contrast, Pakistan’s three wins in South Africa have been by 95 runs at Centurion in 2013, six runs at Newlands in 2013 and 27 runs at Centurion in 2019.

Squads:

Pakistan: Babar Azam (captain), Arshad Iqbal, Asif Ali, Danish Aziz, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Sharjeel Khan and Usman Qadir.

South Africa: Heinrich Klaasen (captain, wicketkeeper), Aiden Markram, Andile Phehlukwayo, Beuran Hendricks, Bjorn Fortuin, George Linde, Rassie van der Dussen, Janneman Malan, Sisanda Magala, Wiaan Mulder, Tabraiz Shamsi, Lutho Sipamla, Kyle Verreynne, Pite van Biljon, Daryn Dupavillon, Migael Pretorius, Lizaad Williams and Wihan Lubbe

10 April - 1st T20I; Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg
12 April - 2nd T20I; Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg

Got to now try a few options here.

May be continue with Rizwan to open and play your best xi in all matches. Hafeez, Sharjeel and Haider into the team are also a must. But as it’s a 4 match series may be we can try the options of utilising the power play with the best aggressive batsmen in the team and consolidate with Babar, Hafeez and rizwan in the middle.

Fakhar
Sharjeel
Babar
Hafeez
Rizwan
Haider
Faheem
Hassan
Qadir/Nawaz
Haris
Shaheen

That’s should be the best team to feature for us. A lot of modern day fire power with Babar and rizzy in. I would still pick Imad in place of may be one extra pacer for India and Shadab.

Babar’s got to open. He’s in terrific form right now and is the best batsman in the country. He shouldn’t be pushed down to #3 to accommodate anyone. Even if opening Babar means you push Rizwan down to the middle order, so be it.

Should go with:
1. Rizwan
2. Fakhar
3. Babar
4. Hafeez
5. Haider
6. Faheem
7. Nawaz
8. Hassan
9. Shaheen
10. Qadir
11. Rauf

Dwaine being out puts them out in my view, you ain't gonna win if you have Markram & co bowling at the death again.

I'll take that playing XI but i wanna see some fire from Hassan Ali, he hasn't impressed me with the ball.

Nawaz and Qadir is a tough call but i'd opt for Nawaz by a very narrow margin.

With the addition of Hafeez and hopefully Haider back into the team, I'm a lot more confident in our T20 batting compared to ODIs.

1) Sharjeel
2) Fakhar
3) Babar
4) Hafeez
5) Haider
6) Rizwan
7) Faheem
8) Hasan
9) Qadir
10) SSA
11) Rauf

9. Shaheen
10. Qadir
11. Rauf

That top 5 is just outstanding, cant wait to see their batting exploits in the T20 series.

Don't get your hopes up - only Babar and Hafeez are consistent. The rest of the batting is either hit and miss or weak. Faheem at 6 says it all for me.

I would not drop Hasan at all as he provides that power-hitting option at #6, but yes Hasnain can come in place of Rauf (though team management is unlikely to go for this, they love Rauf). I really like the way Hasnain pitches it up and gets some movement with the new ball.

:Riz does have the potential to be equally consistent and reliable batsman, we can surely bank on him. ::haider at #5/6 can be a deadly player, surely he'll see some bad days but on his good days he can totally decimate any bowling line-up.
Lastly its only 20 overs against a fairly mediocre proteas bowling line-up, I can't stop myself of being overly excited to see our batting in this series.

Babar has to open and then work from there. Don't fix a problem that doesn't exist.

Considering he batted at no 3 in last T20I SA and did reasonably well along with the overall combination of Pak team I think he might bat at 3. I personally dont mind bit of solidity in the middle order which we have lacked in last few series and its not like we have some players putting their hands up for the middle order as well.

I agree that Babar has been doing extremely well as opener and isnt a problem but, bit of flexibility will have to be required to fix the problem in the middle order which doesnt have many other solutions unlike the opening positions for which we have 3-4 players competing now in T20s.

Babar needs to bat through and then you around him. He is our best player, he should face the most balls. The other guys are ropey at best and in some cases plain naff.

SA have a very very thin an inexperienced pace attack for this series with the absence of their regular 3 (Rabada,Ngidi,Nortje). As far as I know, Steyn hasn't announced retirement from international cricket.
So why didn't SA selectors select him for this series as he can still add a lot to the pace attack and will be fit by the time of upcoming wt20?

Steyn looked out of touch in the PSL, looked really out of depth in my view. Poor lad had too many injuries, yep I'm beginning to feel confident about a 4-0 now:

As well as no Rabada, Ngidi and Nortje they also won't have the services of Dwayne Pretorius who looks like he might be out full series. It's that problem again with them having no back up pace bowlers.

An ATG like Steyn only needs an over to get back in touch. He can still swing the ball, bowl bouncers, variations and set up batsmen. It's only the average pace that has dropped from 141 to 133kph.

I would like to see Fakhar or Sharjeel at 6 since we are so desperate to find a lower order hitter while our top order is already sorted to both of them can't be accommodated in top 4

I think that pace won't scare anyone to be honest, trust me the guy is past his prime. There is another young gun from SA that keeps getting hyped specifically by the Indians, I think his name is Jensen or something.

It's South Africa's own fault for sending players away and Ntini said it live on commentary complete your national duties and then by all means go.

SA's players being sent for IPL has nothing to do with the exodus of Kolpak players after 2015wc.
Steyn is definitely past his prime, not an ounce of doubt in that. But Jansen is playing in IPL, I am saying that in the current squad for the t20i series that is totally devoid of experience, Steyn could have been a good addition.

Rizwan should open with Fakhar. Babar batted at 3 in the third T20I in the home leg vs SA and he has batted there in ODI's.

Fakhar and Sharjeel opening will be like a Goldberg+Stone Cold Tag team. Dream pair!

Fakhar
Sharjeel
Babar
Hafeez
Rizwan
Haider
Fahim ashraf
Nawaz
Hassan ali
Shaheen
Rauf

If the oppening pair dont work we can always play rizwan back at the top.

I think he should not be part of the squad becouse i honestly dont belive he will replace rabada, nigi and that fast bowler and Pretorius.pluss the world cup t20 is in india so spinners will play key role

Looking at that Proteas squad and the players now missing Pakistan should be looking to win the series 4-0.

Terribly weak looking home squad.
