An interesting day's play today. Let's see how Smith and his men fare against spinners today.

I correct what I said above:
The Indian tail manages to survive longer than our openers :)

Boy, are they riding their luck? Getting beaten, edges here and there....but at the end of the day, tail getting some valuable runs here.

315/9… nice going by the last batting pair… the tail is wagging along nicely today. 30 mins of frustation for SA. I hope the partnership is of more than 1 hr.

Haha ball hitting middle stump half way up but Doctrove gives it not out.

:)))

These two have been so lucky . S.A need a bit of this luck if they are going to score anything competitive .

well even a lead of 270 would be quite a challenge for indian team.

WHY DON'T u say that south african fielding and bowling has been pathetic to get these two out rather then them calling lucky

a lot of nicks and balls not going to hand . That's why. But the fielding hasn't been good obviosuly either .

Let's not near indian fans talk about fielding please . It's a little too absurd .

a lot of nicks??

just one nick didn't go in hand.. which was of Sreesanth, and mckenzie missed it

ha ha ha. If this caries on we'll have an innings defeat looming .

actually Indian fielding has been pathetic, but i was pointing out the right thing when u said players have been lucky.. surely they have been but saf fielding and bowling has been poor

styen is bowling all wide deliveries rather then making the batsman play the delivery

Anyway ...I said 50 runs was too much. I'll stick by that ...India should win this easily with their spin bowling options .

Plumb lbw , catches not quite going to hand , no ball catches .

no luck ?

And out . 60 runs is too much in the context of this game though , I think .

I hope S.A can score 210-260...but it's just not likely against the spinners . Their best bet is to attack and hope for the best ...but i know they won't . they will try and build slow partnerships and that will be their downfall .Most batsmen will probably get out without having played an aggressive shot and that's what will frustrate me . Just go for it guys...you have nothing to lose .

This last wicket partnership could be a gamewinner for the Indians. SA need at least 150 runs to defend and I think they will do it tough to get to 210.

For sure . With a bit of luck they could creep over 200 though , but i'm not betting on it .

India won't be batting again today surely.. thats a bet..

The pitch has slowed down a lot so the fast bowlers wouldn't be of much use until the pitch starts to crumble.

Bhajji opening the attack for India. A tricky move by Dhoni!

I thought I'd never see this in my life :)

perhaps the first time since colin miller opened the bowling for AUS in IND or was it SL?

do u remember the DMC series in toronto between Pakistan and West Indies. which was played after cancelation of sahara cup.

in one of the games. windies captain made his spinner bowl the first over.

that was one day though

yeah good call. Gayle opened the bowling that day, IIRC WI were playing only 2 specilaist bowler that day

well in ODIs it has been done quite often. As far as I can remember it was Martin Crowe who used Deepak Patel's offspin with the new ball in 1992 WC and it worked quite well. But I never thought it would be done in test cricket.

ha ha ha...spinner opening the bowling . That tells the story . The pitch is really slow though and other than low bounce their is not much assistance for the faster bowlers .But surely you want them to use the new ball ?

Come on S.a ..knock down the lead without too much damage and you are back in the game .

If these two can just creep it a little closer or over the defecit that will put all the pressure back on india .

But every ball something seems to be happening...show how important that lead was .

South Africa dee[ in a hole . Idiots are going to go down whimpering without even trying to play aggresively . when will they learn that on this type of pitch it's only a matter of time before you get out....take matters into your own hands and play aggresively .

If ever a big knock from Kallizzz :28: was needed, it's now. Kallizzz :28: need to provide a few hours of insomnia treatment if SA are to survive this. A lead of 150 will probably be enough.

Oh no!!! Kallis is such a bore, why dont he retire along with Dravid..Lol they are both playing together in IPL... :))) :)))

I guess south africans arn't used to scoring on pitches that keep low. I don't think this pitch is that hard to bat on. Just stay on the front foot.

So is the pitch really that tough to bat on? Ishant and Sree seemed to be pretty comfortable.

saf bowlers were bowling crap

styen was trying to bowl all wide deliveries and lost his touch..

These are perhaps the only two players that even their home teams would wish they would be out at least once in a while, just to spare the boredom :))

Our 10 and 11 are better than thei top 2. :))

Is that what is implied :p

To be fair they both have scored 50s in 20 something balls. They might be good in 20 20s.

SA still have hope but a big knock is needed now from Kallis.

Despite 2 early wickets, I expect SA to give a target of around 200 runs. Boucher and Kallis are good players of spin.

SA are playing very defensivley here, they need to look positive if they are going to score big. Smit has faced some 40 odd balls and hasn't scored a boundary yet.

Yup . S.A need kallis badly now . They are playing far too defensively , there is no point blocking and blocking. You have to aim for boundaries on such a pitch and if you go out doing so , so be it .

Yep. One ball with your name on it is going to come anyway (like the one that hit Kallis on the glove) so might as well make the most of it.

Boers trying desperately to survive. If these guys can hang on for about 20 overs without losing wickets the tide will turn SA's way.

I know Kallis is looking like another Ponting against Sharma, maybe he has something for right handed batsman, whereas Smith is having no problems

I dont like how both bowlers are bowling to Smith.

Come around the wicket damnit
