IND looking to avoid their first home series defeat since 2004 and only the 3rd since 1987

Kumble is out. Dhoni captains India in his first Test.

Bring on the sidewalk! How many overs before it crumbles you reckon?

Also, SA will bat first, so if this pitch crumbles before lunch SA will have had a huge advantage.

dhoniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

yesssssssssssssssssssssssss

South Africa: 1 Neil McKenzie, 2 Graeme Smith (capt), 3 Hashim Amla, 4 Jacques Kallis, 5 Ashwell Prince, 6 AB de Villiers, 7 Mark Boucher (wk), 8 Morne Morkel, 9 Paul Harris, 10 Dale Steyn, 11 Makhaya Ntini.

india

Sehwag, W Jaffer, R Dravid, SC Ganguly, VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh, S Sreesanth, I Sharma, PP Chawla

S.A won the toss ? Oz...help me out ...where can I watch it bro ?

No change for South AFrica??

If this pitch is for spinners then why the hell SA going with only 1 spinner?

I hope their Fast bowlers can take wickets in this spin track.

Their batsmen getting better against spin day by day.

That's crazy. No point of making flat track if Kumble is not playing. Atleast quality pitch would have supported Ishant for sure. Seem like South Africa will win easily with the absent of Kumble who usually upset opponent in Day 4 and Day 5.

kumble hasnt done zilch for the last 4 test matches or so

and harbhajan seems to be regaining his form

Because they don't have any quality spinners (in fact 1 is probably too much).

In any case, this pitch looks like it will start to break up and crumble on Day 1. That will make guys like Steyn and Morkel very dangerous.

well.....great news that south africa won the toss . Anything close to 300 will put huge pressure on india .

Truchanfan..It's not working for me . Wonder if the IT guys are onto me and are blocking my sites ?

Yeah...def. seems they have the ****** .Stupid koreans...never work for koreans people .

Thats true. They have only Harris. Peterson also bowls okay.

I hope you are right about Steyn & Morkel. I just loved their bowling, especially Steyn's.

Any bets now that S.a have won the toss the curater might siddenly think the pitch probably will need some water tonight ? It would be a tragedy it it broke up too quickly after all , he'll tell us .

ha ha ha ha...such blatant cheating.

Ishant Sharma average of around 45, early in his career gets an awesome 5 wicket spell, bowls around 140ish....reminds me of somone............Mohd Sami

Sharma got only 1 wicket his debut Test match.

3.2 Ishant to McKenzie, FOUR!!, Ishant pushes it a touch further, McKenzie looks to drive, late outswing for Ishant on that occasion, outside edge flies down to third man for four, just wide of 3rd slip that time... streaky shot!

Positive signs for India :)

the pitch has already started wearing off, no bounce at all :)

i think Sharma or his fans don't have to worry or get carried away bout the beating he gets or the amount of wickets he get.. it's just his first game after long time and returning from Injury.. Guy is just 19 yrs old.. still a bright prospect however he performs

huh .. is it day 4 already ??

well that's what the pitch looks like.

very low bounce and plenty of cracks.

very important toss for smith to win.

as per the fast bowlers .. impossible to bowl short here .. saffie bowlers will need a whole new strategy ... keeping it straight and pitching it up will be the only way to go.

Steyn will be lethal in that case with his skiddy faster stuff .
Its not about Steyn being lethal or not, the pitch is clearly sub-standard, the footmarks are already visible on the pitch. I am all for creating a spinning wicket but this pitch is just aweful and not upto test standard in my opinion. Too much has been left on the toss.

Chawla will certainly excel on this pitch. BCCI should play him ahead of either Harbhjan or Kumble.

actually i heard he didn't perform well in domestic cricket ranji trophy.. hence he wasn't really being picked was was being given nod more in odi's then in test..

lol, spinners on after 8 overs.

two balls from Harby took a lot of spin...

Match to end in 3 days!

I agree ..pathetic from india . May they be taught a lesson here by losing the toss .

good start from the saffers...why isn't chawla in the attack already?

great start ..48 for 0 ....anything close to 300 will be like gold...250 will be good in fact by the sounds of things .

The last time i remember a pitch like this when India lost the semi-final to Sri Lanka in 1996. I don't know what ground it was but the top tier of pitch completely wore off by the time India started batted and they collapsed badly. Guys like Jayasuria & Aravinda DeSilva were turning square and bowling people round their legs. Needless to say that crowd started burning the stadium and pelted the outfield with all sorts of refreshments. Anyways I hope the pitch plays better this time.

Not me ...let it stay true while S.A bat and crumble on them. Don't worry though...now that they lost the toss the curator will be up all night wetting it and rolling it flat . Something he'd never have done had it happened vica versa .

Robin Peterson can stand in as the pitch guard, thats the least he can do to contribute in this test :)

One of the few countries that still seem to think it is acceptable to blatantly doctor the pitch to suit their team.

Please tell me exactly what Yuvraj has done to deserve being picked :20:

Disgraceful selection (unless he has made a heap of runs domestic which I doubt cos he is SupaStar!)

it wasn't any great delivery.. mckenzie played it wrong and missed it and then dhoni had enough time to knock off the bails.. mckenzie gave his wicket away

Sri Lanka. I can't comment on the Pak pitches because Australia never tours Pak.

or Won't comment :p.. Mate you surely watch cricket in Pak even though Aus don't tour and I have not found you having no opinion on anything when it comes to cricket ;-)

Pak pitches are generally too flat to give advantage/disadvantage to either home or away team. I guess the low bounce is the only real distinct factor there.

well why dont just give yuvraj a break!! he had just two bad test matches....and he was coming from a good innings againt pak (169) when india where like 70/4 down....
