I was gonna say that it’s by countries. In that case women don’t have much of a choice. Plenty of unhappy marriages I have seen in Pakistan. But they stay together due to her not having a choice and society taboo. Dallas where my family lives and has a big desi community, divorce rate is very high. There was an article in Dallas newspaper in nov-dec of 2020 about the high divorce rate among south Asians in Dallas . Not as high as white embocan but projected to be .

The reasons South Asian marriages do not break can be 1) divorces are taboo and women remain in marriages even though they would be happier if they divorced 2) the culture promotes spouses liking being with each other more, or there is some other reason for them wanting to be with each other.

Whether 1) or 2) is true is almost impossible to determine with a comprehensive survey (not a survey with a few case studies). Lacking such evidence, people just choose one of the two according to their biases.

Divorce is generally seen as a bad thing in Bangladesh. There is a stigma.

The top 9 seemingly are from more socially conservative cultures, and as others said, divorce is more taboo within those cultures. If you simply take lower rate of divorce as a measure of marriage stability, then I'm not surprised at this at all.

For south Asians, marriage isn't just about the married couple, they usually have kids so family stability for children is considered a high priority. Perhaps as values change to reflect western values that will start changing.
