Sri Lanka Cricket’s delegation is impressed by the security plan presented by law and enforcement agencies on their tour to Karachi.

The security delegation comprised of Sri Lanka Cricket’s honorary Secretary-General Mr. Mon De Silva, Air Marshal Roshan Gunaratne and two other met IG Sindh Police and home secretary on their tour to the City of Lights.

The IG Sindh and his team presented the security plan which they will provide to the Sri Lankan team if they visit Pakistan to play Test matches in October. The meeting was attended by the PCB’s Director International Operations Zakir Khan who briefed the delegation about the security and other matters.

The delegation then visited the eye-wrenching venue of National Stadium Karachi where they overviewed the ground, stands, chairman boxes and media box.

While talking to the media the head of the delegation Mr. Silva expressed his satisfaction over the security plan. “We had a useful session with IG Sindh and Home Secretary. They have some strong plans which indeed have impressed us,” he said.

Silva highlighted the good relations between PCB and Sri Lanka Cricket and is hopeful to carry out some good news from this trip. “Pakistan and Sri Lanka keep close relations and we are looking forward to having some good news regarding this tour,” he maintained.

He recalled the incident which took place with Sri Lankan team back in 2009 in Lahore and said that the decision to play in Pakistan is tough. “There are a lot of concerns but we still are confident to have strong ties with the cricket-loving nation [Pakistan],” he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that PCB had invited Sri Lanka team to play a Test match in Pakistan in October. In reply, Sri Lanka Cricket decided to send a security unit which arrived in Karachi to overview the security plan.

The delegation will also visit Islamabad and Lahore to overview the security situation there. They will then present the report to their cricket board who will give the final decision.

PCB is confident to host red-ball cricket after a gap of almost 10 years. Last time, Pakistan played a Test at their home ground against Sri Lanka in 2009.

Good signs.

If SL can successfully tour Pakistan, other countries should start visiting.

Sri Lanka Cricket’s delegation was briefed on the security situation of Lahore on Thursday. The visitors were first given a tour of the safe city office and then were taken to the Gaddafi stadium.

The security delegation was also briefed about the security of the ground and the route. The Head of the Security Delegation, Mohan De Silva while talking to the media stated that he was grateful to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for taking them into confidence regarding their security plans.

“Today we met the personnel from Lahore police and security agencies. We are grateful to the PCB who have taken us into confidence regarding their security arrangements. We will report our finding to the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) which will then take a decision on the tour to Pakistan,” said De Silva.

According to sources, the current plan is to hold the first Test against Sri Lanka in Karachi from October 1 to 5. The Sri Lanka team will then fly to Lahore on October 7. The second Test is being planned to take place on October 9 to 13.

The Sri Lanka team will fly to Karachi three days before the first Test if the tour gets clearance from the SLC.
