End of first session. Dilshan in T20 mode - 74* in 56 balls.

111/2 Sri Lanka.

Oh boy..............and also considering the fact that this pitch ain't a dead track . Now I'm beginning to fear Dilshan .

Dilshans gone for 92 (72). O'Brien takes it ! His blog will be fun to read !

Sri lanka scoring very quickly, only vettori seems to have bowled with any quality and control so far.

151/3 Lanka.

Jaywawardenas into the 40s now.

Elsewhere Zimbabwe stuttering at 73/6 against Bangladesh.

Lol at the indian fanboi on Cricinfo in response to Dilshan's knock:

Prabu: "Reply to lalith Martin : Sewag has did already these kind of explosive innings at test cricket. All of his innings are explosive."

Even his duck is explosive eh?

Sri Lanka probably have enough runs now, they should declare.

242 - 3

M Jayawardene - 84*
T Samaraweera - 57*

Looks like Saqlains training on the spinners has not worked (well not yet anyway)

Mahela Jayawardene has a better test average than Javed Miandad.
I know Jayawardene is a world class batsman, but I never thought he could match Miandad.

Mahela Jayawardene has that highest score of 374 and against SA, so he is deffo a class player

Well Mahela is a FTB and home bully, his away average is pretty bad.

Home ( excluding Bang and Zim ) 64.61
Away ( excluding Bang and Zim ) 38.86

Javed Miandad has a much more respectable away average.

Home 61.38
Away 45.80

Miandad never played against BD or Zim.

Home bully??? We are talking about international cricket. It is natural to have a better ave on home soil, so I dont buy your argument. Mahela has a better home ave that Miandad, why couldn't Miandad have a better avg than 61.38? At the end of the day it is the total ave which matters and at the momen Mahela has a better ave than Miandad.

Having said that, I still feel Miandad was a much better player than Mahela. Maybe I am saying this coz I am Pakistani, but that is my feeling :D

That is poor and an eye opener.

FTB if ever I saw one.

An average of 39 away from home is poor for someone with so much supposed class.

Well Avg is not completely indicative of a players ability. Jaya has a better average then Sir Viv Richards, Brian Lara etc but no one who understands cricket would rate Jaya a better batsman then these players. Mahela can only score on flat pitches thus he's a FTB.

have you seen mahela batted out a day & a half to save a test match in england last time they toured. did you see him bat in australia & scored a century against the likes of lee, stuart clark..etc. during sl's last test series against the aussies. those wickets weren't that flat mate...

Can't judge player who played in the 70's and 80's against one who plays in the flat pitch minnow bashing days of now.

Jaya is a world class batsman but he no Javed Miandad.

Not to take anything away from Jaya but those wickets were pretty flat, in both matches that you are talking about the home team posted mammoth scores and SL batsmen didn't too badly either. Mahela has only scored 6 centuries outside home ( 23% tons outside home ) while Miandad scored 9 outside home ( 37.5% tons outside home ). Mahela's highest score outside home is 141 while he has scored 200+ five times at home. Miandad highest outside home is 271 and 2 of his 6 double hundreds came outside home.

sri lanka v.s. new zealand

Test crickets 2 most boring teams playing....

jayawardene scored yet another century in sri lanka surprise surprise

chris martin took 2/3's of the sri lankan wickets surprise surprise

people comparing him to miandad definitely surprised :)))

Miandad averaged 50+ at a time when only half a dozen batsmen averaged 50+ every decade. Jayawardene averages 50 when every tom, dick and hari average 50

We can go on bringing up stats to compare players, but there is more to it than just stats.
Miandad is way ahead of Jaya. :jm

Anyone watching the match ? How much swing is Kulaskeara and co getting ? How are the Kiwi batsmen handling it ?

nz 26-0
nz openers has negotiated the new ball well unlike their pakistani colleagues last month.

Maybe these teams are boring because they don't collapse like pakistan :)))

New Zealand 137-3

still 300+ runs behind and a lot of hard work to do.

Taylor gone for 35. NZ 183/4.

Tim McIntosh batted forever for his 67*.

Kiwis 211/6 - Loads batsmen getting starts but not going on.

Oram and Ryder two men in middle at moment.

Kiwis continue to struggle.

New Zealand 245-7

Kiwis 270/8 at close.

Intresting to see If Sri lanka can force a win from here.

well played kiwis i was expecting them to be rolled over by the spinners....this kiwi team has some good bats

ryder,taylor,mucullum---top rate
flynn,gupthill--pretty good
mcintosh,oram,vettori--decent

now all they need is one good seam bowler to partner martin and obrien maybe bond can do the trick

ryder is and taylor (perhaps) are top rate... mccullum is good I would say...

Flynn is decent he reminds of that Nash guy from West Indies in the sense both love to score as slow as possible and now he has a partner in crime in Mcintosh...

Oram needs to up his batting otherwise he will get the axe especially now that he has given up his bowling
