Morgan may have nudged ahead of all others in the race for Colly's test spot. 84* (115)

Randiv struggling in his first match on the English soil. 18-2-78-0

Morgan despite of playing IPL comes back and scores a ton right away...

Bopara who said NO to ipl twice and scored a lot of runs in county championship, his place is in danger now

bopara choked! after all his hard work in the county championship looses it when it mattered most Morgan has really given the selectors something to think about what a special player, never mind playing t20 cricket, jet lag and first county game of the seasons comes back and scores a century with a bit of luck earlier on

Bopara always chokes when pressure is on!

Taylor, Morgan and Patel should all be ahead of him for test side!

Sri Lanka hasn't won a Test Series outside their home since a very long time (barring Zim/Bangladesh). Correct me if I am wrong but their record hasn't been too good outside Sri Lanka. Won once in NZ and England in 90s and a couple of times in Pakistan since they got the Test Status. Yet to win a single Test Match in Australia, India and South Africa. This is a good opportunity though.

Srilankan bowlers getting some phaintey from the Lions..
I see either boring draws or some English wins..

Sri Lanka will be like Pakistan in England last summer but with a worse bowling line-up and a more resilient batting line-up, I can't see them putting up any more of a fight.

I wouldn't write SL off from this performance. Good chance they are saving something for the real tests.

Lankans all out 266, 5 wickets for Jade Dernbach.

England's full team should be aiming to win this test series and win it well.

Morgan is a shoe-in for the tests now.

Doubt it, Robert. Seems like it's fait accompli....Bops it is. Morgan did himself no favours when he trotted off to the IPL. Not that I agree with that way of looking at it but I haven't quite got Andy's shell like, more's the pity.

Bopara would be the right choice, England would surely need an extra bowler and they can afford to not play Morgan with the batting heavy lineup that they have.

England should stream-roll Sri Lanka easily if they prepare pacer friendly wicket.

Sri Lanka fighting back well here. Currently 138/0 with Dilshan on 91* quality player.

Sunny but windy in Derby today.

Finn has fallen over 3 times whilst bowling :)

Lankans have lost a couple of wickets, with Sanga just being bowled.

Not much Sri Lankan support here which is rather surprising.

One can visualise them winning the match from where they are, though. They're that kind of team.

In English please :))

Nice to see Samit Patel in the runs aswell for the Lions. A talented lad hopefully he can sort out his fitness issues. England look like they have a lot of bench strength for the future.

Yes Majiz, their top order looks more resiliant than Pakistan's, but their bowling attack without Vaas and Murali doesnt look all that threatening.

Also Mendis has had a bit of an injury scare ahead of the first test, ankle problem but he should be ok for Cardiff.

Can't believe Morgan has basically been ruled out of the squad lol. After scoring 193 against the bowlers that the full team will be facing. He has said he will fly back for the IPL if he is ignored and I don't blame him. Ridiculous. England have been lucky enough to acquire this very talented young batsman from Ireland, and it is important that he is treated properly going forward. I hope Bopara does well but I'm not convinced that he is test class, whereas Morgan looks like he could be one day. He has been a poor starter in test cricket thus far, but he does have 130 against a world-class bowling attack in English conditions under his belt. That's worth more than the sum total of Bopara's achievements in test cricket to date.

Anyway, good to see so many future England stars doing well :)

Also, another ton for AJ Strauss today. First against the Sri Lankans and now against Glamorgan. Hope he has a strong summer as captain and opener, and goes on for years to come.

Cookie's on fire too. It seems to be turning out to be the battle of the openers!

The most encouraging thing has been Cookie's form in the limited overs games. He may yet prove me wrong as ODI skip.

Zaheer's bunny to be honest lol.

Any left-hander will be at risk. If there's one plus to the exclusion of Morgan, it's that five of the top seven will be right-handers.

Prediction for the series? I think it will be very close, but that India might just edge it if Zaheer and their best batsman stay fit.

Looking forward to it big time anyway.

2-1 either way. I also don't think England's result against Sri Lanka, good or bad, will have any bearing on the India series. Cannot. Wait.

Whoever wins can make a very decent claim to being the world's best, no doubt about it. Very decent.

If India win or draw, they are the best.

If England beat Sri Lanka and India, they are the best.

IMO.

Lions will still win if they play anything close to good.

By the way absolutely no security at all for the Sri Lankan team yesterday, no police, no stewards...very strange considering their matches are normally targetted by protesters.

Eng Lions 170/8 chasing 222. Match headed for a thrilling finish in the final session

England Lions gonna loooooose. Great stuff from the Lankans after following on. Good game!

SL win by 39 runs. ENG Lions A/O for 183. A great comeback by SL after following on

None of the Sri Lankan fast bowlers have decent first class averages, but maybe they'll be one or two to watch out for nonetheless.

Wow, how the hell did they manage to win this?
I see Nuwan Pradeep's done the damage. Interesting, looks like he has some potential afterall.

Awesome result again for touring side.

I hope Sri Lankans are not gonna be easy pushovers for England this summer.

Nuwan Pradeep is really hyped up in SL. Has sort of a slingy action similiar to Tait with slight pause before the delivery stride from what I've heard. Said to clock 140+ more often than not and able to reach 150 on a good day. But, has limited first class experience so will be a good learning curve for him.

People calling him the next Malinga thats just pathetic

What an excellent win for Sri Lankans and now that they will be used to the condions to some extent they will give the English team a real match and I won't be surprised if SL win the Test series.

No one's gonna call him next Malinga when Malinga's still playing Int. cricket :p
And his action in no way does it resemble Malinga, it's completely conventional and more likely to resemble Tait that is if you want to make any sort of a comparison. Certainly a bit slingy but not prominent by any means

yup thats what his action is nothing like malinga. The word Slingy , Slinga is over used . if that keywords is there everyone with slingy action will be called the next malinga

Two wins in two practice matches..Not too many teams have managed that on an Enlgish tour in recent times.

Well done to Sri lanka, best way to get into the 1st test.

England still have a very good top seven in test matches. Twenty wickets is going to be a task for the Sri Lankans, sans Murali, Malinga and Vaas. Even a drawn series would be a great result for the Sri Lankans. I'll go for 2-1 England at the moment.

Was a great fight back by Lankans to tame the naqli Lions :p
