Anyone remember Yasir Jan?

Let me freshen your memories a bit...

He was the real thing - once - could bowl with either arm - he was going to revolutionize bowling as we knew it.

But where is he now? Why arent people who brought him to the world's attention now not speaking about him.

I will tell you why - read the title of this thread.

And then check social media and see how everyone and their chacha is rushing to show how they predicted big things for Haris Rauf and how they were the ones to spot his talent!

Just hope to God the same doesnt happen to Haris or to the next "sensation" we find from the streets of Pakistan....

Speaking of which... where is the 7 feet 4 inches, Muhammad Mudassar?

Once again, I can only offer my humble thanks to Aaqib Javed and Muddasar Nazar who have picked me for the Lahore Qalandars team. Aaqib saw me bowl during the 5th Corporate T20 Cup 2016, organised in Karachi by Moin Khan, and he felt that I had something special. He invited me to Lahore where he asked me about my dreams and future goals. When I told him that I want to be the best and represent my country, he said you have the ability to do that and we, Lahore Qalandars, will support you in achieving those dreams. I then took part in open trials in Faisalabad where I was formally identified for selection in the squad. God willing, I will play in the next edition of the Pakistan Super League in 2017. This is indeed an honour as I was one of many others who appeared in those trials. As a result, I now have a ten-year contract with the Qalandars which I am really happy with as it gives me a great platform to achieve higher goals.

From Ghulam Mudassar's Talent Spotter.

He went through some injuries, changed his action and lost a lot of pace. Was with QG last season, didn't do too well and was obviously ignored at the PSL draft this year. Then he was put in the Sindh 2nd XI. Played 2 three-day games, didn't do well and was dropped. Had a few middling performances in T20s. Only played 5 matches in total in the domestic season this year and I'd guess he may not be a strong contender to continue with the provincial side next season.

Competitive sports are a cruel career. Some people are talented and work extremely hard but due to lack of political connections or other reasons, just can't make it to the top.

Rauf has grabbed the BBL opportunity with both hands; he's bowling his best and enjoying every second of this lucky international exposure. Just imagine, what if Steyn weren't injured...

I personally know one kid who used to play with a 2020 NBA starting PG; this kid didn't make it and the other one (Ricky Rubio) made it. One is making millions and the other one is still living in the same small city. Both were talented and a treat to watch!
It's heartbreaking, man.

LQ's social media hyping are cringe worthy, especially the press releases after Rauf does well.

It is a win win scenario for them though- they hype all of their players initially, and they may occasionally strike gold like they have with Rauf.

Dont know what exactly happened to that so called 10 years contract. :saslam

Coming to his action I dont think he had a lot wrong initially and even after he changed it it wasnt as drastic a change as much as he was effected.

Another case of action changes and I believe a certain 'Expert' is a coach with LQ's...makes sense now. No wonder the kid is basically finished!

The recent example of Abid Ali confirms this.

Every man and his dog was on television claiming that they had spotted Abid and put his name forward for selection years ago.

If he had failed, these guys would have been the first to criticise him.

or simply forgotten him and hyped someone else instead

This is not a huge issue. It is human nature. If a person successfully builds their own helicopter and flies in it. It is only natural for him to keep harping on about it.

However, if he fails in creating a functioning helicopter, you wont see them reminding others about it all day.

It is human nature, to hide your failures and flaws. A coach will never come out and say they changed a bowlers action which made them lose swing and zip.

It's fair if those people have actually helped the guy, but not when they have done nothing to assist.

Pakistan has won 1 game, yes, but now they should be looking to seal the series because Australia is gonna field there B-team in the next game. There will be no excuse.

Indeed.

It is not just true in cricket but everywhere.

When you are successful, you tend to have more friends and well-wishers. When you are struggling, most may ignore you or criticize you.
