Not really, chelsea are the top side now, evidently, everyone knows that, its a real challenge for anyone else to win the league now, im not totally peed off that we havent won the title, at least we tried our best, we've been immaculate recently, i remember how much we were bashed here when we got kicked out of the champs league and then continued our poor run but a great team always comes back and we have come back strongly, as far as im concerned im quite pleased.

Sunderland boss Roy Keane has revealed he dropped four players for Saturday's clash with Chelsea as he was not happy with their efforts in training.

Kieran Richardson, Danny Higginbotham, Daryl Murphy and Michael Chopra were all surprisingly left out of the squad for the 1-0 defeat at the Stadium of Light.

Keane rejected suggestions he dropped the quartet for disciplinary reasons, hinting it was their lack of application to training which saw them left out.

"I pick my team on what I see and not what I hear from people or agents or fathers or girlfriends.

"I judge my players on what I see on the training pitch. And that's an intensity to do well, to improve, to become better.

"The other four or five will be back training with them tomorrow and then, maybe, they'll be involved next week and others will slack off."

Roy Keane has been pretty average this season, not exactly amazing that he has dropped a few non performing players. The guy has spent a lot of money BUT they are struggling.

He certainly needs to improve his spending - too early to comment on his man management and tactical awareness

Kenwyne Jones is definately a quality player, reminds me a bit of Adebayor BUT without the shooting boots. What the Mackems need alongside Kenwyne Jones is a goalscorer, sadly for them they dont have one.

Craig Gordon has done well BUT nearly £10 million for a keeper? that is way ott. Everyone knows its goals that keep you up and they needed a goalscorer, spending £10 million on a goalscorer would have made better sense . . . . BUT I guess they felt they got that in Chopra

Sunderland boss Roy Keane has begun his summer cull by telling four players he will not be renewing their deals.

Veteran striker Andy Cole along with defenders Ian Harte, Stanislav Varga and Stephen Wright have all been released by the Wearside club.

Keane vowed to shake up his squad after securing the club's Premier League future for next season.

He now reportedly wants the Sunderland board to give him another £50m to bring in new players for the next campaign.
Keane said: "I have sat down with Andy, Ian, Stephen and Stan and they won't be getting new contracts."

Cole and Varga had only just returned to training with Sunderland from their respective loan spells at Burnley.

Cole, 36, joined up with his former Manchester United team-mate Keane on a one-year deal last summer but only made five appearances for the Black Cats.

Former Leeds player Harte was also brought in by Keane, who he played alongside for the Republic of Ireland, in 2007.

Varga joined Sunderland from Celtic in 2006, while Wright joined from Crewe in 2002 for £3m and recently had a spell on loan at Stoke.

I'm going to the Forest/Sunderland friendly on Wednesday, so it will be interesting to see how they're shaping up. I guess they'll play a team half made up of first-teamers and youngsters. We're unbeaten in pre-season and played some beautiful stuff against Everton on Friday night, so we should present a decent test. I'd expect them to beat us if the new signings make an appearance, but it will be good fun to get back into the sway of things. We've got Sunderland again in the Carling Cup tomorrow (on Sky). I'm not going because I can't afford the extra expense (about £20 including travel) at the moment in time. It's easier to watch it on the telly, especially when we're bound to lose. We're a decent enough team and I'm sure the likes of Guy Moussi and Lee Martin will impress. I'm not really sure what team Calderwood will go with, but I'd guess we'll be unchanged from Saturday's win over Watford unless Kelvin Wilson has made a quick recovery. Our defence is a shambles without Wilson so Sunderland should make hay.

The attacking is coming on in leaps and bounds though. Earnshaw through the middle with Martin and McCleary on either wing gives us pace on the counter-attack. We scythed through Watford at every opportunity on Saturday. Hoping for some of the same.

Sunderland have the financial muscle now - where they got the cash from i have no idea BUT it is allowing them to go and make signings that they would not have been able to do in the past. Roy Keane has hinted his future as Sunderland boss may not be certain after the club's defeat by Bolton saw them slip into the relegation zone.

Defensive errors triggered Saturday's 4-1 loss after which some fans at the Stadium of Light fans booed his players - but Keane took full responsibility.

"I ask myself every day if I'm the right man for Sunderland," he said.

"I asked myself this morning, and I said I was. Sunday morning, if the answer's no, we'll have to look at it."

The Black Cats had taken an early lead through Djibril Cisse's low finish but Bolton soon hit back through Matt Taylor and Gary Cahill goals, while Johan Elmander's double either side of half time sealed a comprehensive victory.

Sunderland now lie 18th having lost five of their last six Premier League matches.

Keane added: "I have to be honest in my assessment. It's not about what's best for Roy Keane. It's Sunderland football club.

"I might wake up on Monday morning and think I'm the right man. On Tuesday it might be different.

"I'm the manager of this football club and ultimately I'm responsible and I've never shied away from that.

"That's part of being a manager and that's why I take full responsibility for today and the run we're on and everything else."

Despite glaring errors from Danny Collins and captain Dean Whitehead on Saturday which led to Elmander's goals, Keane insisted he was not angry with his players.

"I look at what these lads have done over the last two and a bit years and they've been absolutely brilliant," he said.

"I can't legislate for individual mistakes so stuff like that doesn't make me angry.

"We play with such innocence we make it hard for ourselves and we seem to get punished for every mistake we make.
