NEW DELHI: Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar made a combined India and Pakistan XI out of players that he would love to see play. He admitted that this may not be the best eleven players that may have represented the two sides statistically but these are players that he would like to see playing together.

Speaking along with former Pakistan skipper Ramiz Raja on the Sony Ten show Pit Stop and Blue Revolution Series which was streamed live on the network's Facebook page, Gavaskar said that regardless of what happens if this team actually played or not, he expects the dressing room to be "hilarious." It will be difficult to get the boys out of the dressing room because they will be having so much fun.

Gavaskar chose the an opening pair of Virender Sehwag and the legendary Pakistan batsman Hanif Mohammad, who was the first batsman outside of Australia and England, to score a triple century in Test cricket and who was originally called the 'Little Master' before the title was assumed by Gavaskar himself and later Sachin Tendulkar.

Pakistan great Zaheer Abbas comes in at no.3 and India's Sachin Tendulkar follows. Former India batsman Gundappa Viswanath comes in at no.5 while Kapil Dev slots in at no.6. Imran Khan followed suit after which Gavaskar chose Syed Kirmani as his wicketkeeper no.8. Wasim Akram, Abdul Qadir and former Indian leg spinner ** Chandrashekhar completed the team.

Sunil, invite us to play a series in India then we will talk about Indo-Pak XI.

Wait wait wait, you guys won’t because...................

Solid looking team, I suppose it’s awkward to select yourself in an all time XI for any player - but if not Gavaskar and you need an opener with a solid defensive technique then Hanif Muhammad is clearly the best option.

Trying to think of other Indo Pak openers who could meet that criteria of a solid defensive technique other than Gavaskar and Hanif, maybe Mohammed Hafeez (Although that is conditional on wickets being flat and opposition being out of Zimbabwe / Bangladesh / Hong Kong )

Surprised he chose Hanif and Zaheer at three over himself and Dravid for tests.

I think he is a bit biased toeards his era which is expected.

Otherwise YK should be there in place of Vishy as well.

Sunil is a biased dude. I never liked his commentary whenever India played.

He goes on talk about Sachin during a match when Sachin is even not playing.

Always fun to read from Majid bhai :afridi

Hafeez has massive loyal fans in Pakistan lol.

It's a great team. My message to Pakistani fans please don't hate him for not picking Miandad. Gavaskar grew up admiring his icons Rohan Kanhai and Haneef Mohammad whom he always calls the original little master.

I presume also Indians of 1970s will always put Zaheer Abbass very highly because he had that he'll of a series in Pakistan when he retired our ageing spinners.

Gundappa , maybe young posters from Pakistan don't knock much about but ask any old Pakistani fan, apart from Imran Khan magically knocking his stumps they will tell you how good a player he was.

Chandrasekhar was unique. Even Miandad confessed he and Abbass both did not enjoy batting against him as much as against other spinners

Vishwanath better then Miandad, Inzy and Yousaf?

Chandra ahead of Waqar, Shoaib, Fazal, Saqlain?

Nonsense.

He’s picked his mates. Ignore him.

Its his own personal team, he has a right to it.

Not sure if this is the correct time to pick and share his Indo Pak XI. Sunil Gavaskar should have avoided it under current circumstances. :inti

Amidst all the skullduggery, there's always something that gives us hope.

I agree - I’m just saying I disagree as it’s clearly biased towards people he had played with. Understandable and not to be taken seriously.

Imagine Zaheer Abbas and Gundappa Vishwanath batting together, peak artistry. Like his choice of Chandra, ace spinner especially outside Asia.

Gundappa and Abbass sounds like a batting pair I would pay to watch.

Gundappa wasn't the kind of quantity but boy most of his hundreds were quite phenomenal.

In terms of quality of knocks, Gundappa is right up there.

Probably a better version of VVS Laxman

Gavaskar and Bedi were enemies during their playing days, even more fierce than the Sunny-Kapil tiff.

6 Pakistanis. Arey wahh...i’d open with Zaheer and slot Miandad in the middle order.
