"Talking to seniors had made me realise that I should play proper cricketing shots" : Fakhar Zaman

Fakhar Zaman at the post match presser today:

"At the start in T20Is, I was trying to hit every ball but after playing 8-10 games, I sat with the senior players and talked about my game plans and I realised I should play proper cricketing shots"

"We were expecting 130-140 but Mire played a very good innings but we knew we have a deep batting lineup and have Shadab at #9 so we were confident of chasing it"

"Sarfaraz is a kind of person who sometimes gets animated on the field but off the field he's very good, we are used to it and he's our captain and it works for us"

"The plan is to play our natural game against Stanlake, he bowled well in the first game but every day is a new day"

"We have plans against Finch and we will use some different bowling strategies tomorrow insha'Allah"

"I toured Zimbabwe with Pakistan A in 2016, the pitches at 10 AM were seaming and swinging but now in this series, the wickets are really true and I think they're perfect for T20 cricket"

Some advice is beneficial though. Fakhar at times seems is on suicide mission trying to rip the leather off the ball. He is much better batsman than that.

A 28 year old batsman has finally realized that he should play proper cricketing shots after listening to a few ‘senior’ players.

Only in Pakistan will you hear statements like these. Utterly embarrassing, but that is Pakistan cricket in a nutshell.

To be fair Fakhar has been very successful in domestic without changing his game, averages like 50 in list A. Even in international cricket he has found success with his method of batting. In NZ he was our best batsmen, which us hard to believe. But now he has realized to get to the next level he will have to learn to play proper shots.

Bit harsh, not his fault that our selectors are waiting till our better prospects are getting to their late twenties before being given an opportunity to play.

Is probably going through a Moeen Ali-esque patch, where he has to sort out how he will play or how he should play. Expect him to become a much better player in the future.

I think he needs to stop throwing the kitchen sink at every shot he tries to whack. He needs to look at the other attacking opening batsman in LOI and see the way they play. There alot more controlled in there big hits and time the bowl well. Guys like Aaron Finch, Jason Roy even Sharma and Dhawan are attacking openers who look to time the big hit well. Fakhar seems to hit every bowl really hard and sometimes it comes off his edges of his bat.

Maybe you should stop watching the Pakistani cricket if it is so embarrasing for you. It seems to bring a lot of pain and suffering to you, so I honestly don't see why you follow it.

Quotes from today's presentation where he won the MoM award:

"You can call this my best innings, in previous games we weren't getting a very good start but today we tried hard and were successful"

"In the first game, Australia bowled a lot of bouncers so we were expecting more bouncers and were ready for that"

"Our bowling is very good, we were looking for 160-170 to defend, then we got 190 so we were very hopeful of defending it"

"Hope to get some runs in the final"

Today he was playing proper cricket shots, timing the ball beautifully and cleanly striking the ball with fewer of the mishits and top edges we sometimes see from him.

Will be a fearsome prospect if we can find one more aggressive batsman in the top 3.

He is crouching way less then before and as a result, playing shot balls better. Sahibzada Farhan should learn from this as he has similar problem.

lol I know right. He could have just as well come out and said, "talking to seniors made me realise holding bat with 2 hands allows better grip while playing shots" :)) :)))

Enjoyed his batting today, such a brave batsman and def. not selfish.

Was impressed with his innings today. Played some proper good shots, not just slogging.

He speaks basic English and this is what he got across. From what I've seen of Fakhar so far, it can safely be said that he is not a naive person, or someone who lacks basic intelligence and awareness.

Obviously he means that he was hitting a lot of low percentage shots previously and was going too hard at the ball. After speaking to the management etc., he realised that he needs to adapt his game and compromise as Pakistan needs him to do well desperately.

Our players aren't some clueless idiots from another planet.

He needs to play the way he is comfortable. He is the only one with the X factor and that comes from his unorthodox ways. Remember this guy ended the ODI careers of both Jadeja and Ashwin.
