I'm absolutely disgusted with the amount of acid attacks that have been occurring in London against Asian minorities. I've recently heard about the young 21 woman and her cousin who's lives have been changed due to an acid attack and stuff like this just keeps happening. I'm happy to know Tamim's family is safe from the acid attack and should use this time wisely to bring awareness about this as it will do the UK good. There's been a petition going on recently on the fact that people who purchase these acidic products must now present a license for them to be able to purchase it; teenagers are able to just go to a particular store and grab the acidic product right off the shelf!

My heart sinks every time I hear about an attempted acid attack and making it even less safe to go outside due to these attacks. Worst thing is that the attackers are usually still roaming around and the police aren't doing anything!

Now coming back to cricket, if Tamim wishes to play cricket in Eng, he needs to be extremely careful about his wife's where-beings, she can't be going into places where acid attacks happen often. For now he should raise this issue and make his voice heard.

Now imagine this took place in pakistan. Just IMAGINE! First thing that would spit out from people's mouth would be TERRORISM. This attempted attack, is an act of terrorism. This is really shocking and disgusting!

Tamim pulls out of county

The wife of Bangladesh cricketer Tamim Iqbal was the target of an attempted hate crime in the United Kingdom on the night of July 10, leading the cricketer to cut short his stint with county side Essex Eagles and return home with his wife, a source close to the Bangladesh Cricket Board informed yesterday.

Tamim had only reached Essex on Saturday and played just one of the eight games he was supposed to play. It has been learnt that the left-hander left England last night and is expected to reach Dhaka in the evening today.

It is not yet known exactly where the incident occurred. According to the source, Tamim, his wife Ayesha Siddiqa -- who wears a hijab -- and their one-year-old son were dining out when some miscreants chased them and attempted to throw acid at her.

Contacted, Tamim, however, said he was returning home purely for personal reasons.

Earlier yesterday, Essex had released a statement on their website announcing that Tamim would cut his stint short due to 'personal reasons'.

There have been acid attacks in the UK against Muslims recently, with two Muslim cousins being the victims of an acid attack as recently as 21 June.

Well the person your talking about was someone who I knew and met a few times in the mosque,it's deeply saddening and it won't stop, however this is the wrong response and the police should actually do something about it.

If that acid attack story is true, that's another horrific attempted GBH. But Tamim isn't saying much so one can only speculate.

Either way, if he feels his family isn't safe then he has every right to cut short his tenure. Good for him.

Shocking stuff. Tamim isn't talking about it but the English media should surely be pursuing this story?

Really shocking and disgusting to hear not just it happens to tamim's wife. Hearing about those acid attacks and random unwanted Muslim men and women checks are being very common these days. These extremists do act of terrorism and get away with mental instability is an injustice to humanity. The rate of crime is decided with the colour of the people these days.

Surely there must be something really serious if he has left the country. Hopefully Police has already caught the idiots who were behind it.
I was thinking of a London vacation with family later this summer but with 3 children I think I am gona drop it.

Tamim Iqbal has denied these reports via his twitter account.

Statement by Tamim

I want all my fans and well wishers to know that I cut short my season with Essex to come back home early for personal reasons. Some media reported that we were the target of attempted hate crime. This is really not true. England is one my of favorite places to play cricket and Essex have been entirely gracious even though I had to leave early. I thank all my fans and well wishers for their concern and messages and look forward to going back to England for future matches.

Actually no.

He is a professional cricketer, at his prime - next 4/5 years, he'll get opportunities from UK in County or League cricket. He won't tell anything that makes his current or potential employer (s) uncomfortable. Also, if he makes hue & cry on this, it'll be difficult for him to play in UK leagues next time.

There is no major illness, death, marriage or birth in his close family - a professional player doesn't fly 10 hours, immediately after having a family dinner at a restaurant, when he has 7 more matches in next 3 weeks.

The article in question said he arrived at Essex on Saturday and flew out on Monday evening. He had an away game late Sunday afternoon and if this supposed incident happened on Saturday you assume he wouldn't have played on Sunday so when was this family dinner?

Something just does not add up here.

More to this than meets the eye.

What makes you think that it was Saturday, not Sunday? The game ends at around 3pm Toronto, so I presume at around 8PM UK - I take 3 hours lag time for driving from Bekenham to Chemsford via A12 & take family for a dinner at around 11PM, which is basically before Esha prayer for mid July in UK - If I take that he was based at Chelmsford & his wife was waiting for him at home. By now, you probably have realized that I know a bit of South & South East London:(

What might happen, don't catch me on this, because I wasn't there - he was based somewhere in East London (only 8 matches, 4 away, therefore better to stay within touching distance of London) & his family was present at the ground for a 4 hours match - from there on they went for a dinner.

But how do you know there's no major illness or death in his family?

I have read at least 10 local (BD) news papers' online version & watched that news bulletin in 5 channels - instead of "personal reason", it would have been quite easily explainable with illness, death or accident news. Besides, there is Facebook these days, which I visit once or twice a month (but this time tried to find clues in FB for this case). Marriage or birth issues actually gives you a bit more time than 24 hours, that someone'll fly 10 hours (could be 20 for him, based in Chittagong), on Saturday & fly back on Monday, after playing 1 match (& scoring 7:()

Indeed but why wasn't there a police report filed?

An alleged acid attack isn't something the UK police would brush aside. That's a risk to public safety and would be all over the news.

I don't think it was acid thrown on her body. Rather, I do believe she was threatened in some way - may be with an acid bottle, or at worst someone threw some acid, which didn't reach them.

Tamim probably didn't report it to police at the request/suggestion of Essex officials, as there was no physical damage. Because, if this is reported, then Ayesha Siddiqua (his wife), would need to come to UK for inquiry procedure, testimony, may be even forensics testing. I do trust the British police - they won't do any negligence, because the victim was an Asian Muslim lady.

I think, Tamim will return back to UK alone in few days time, to finish his matches. And, that's the best solution in this regard - just bury the ashes under carpet, as there wasn't any major damage.

Either the reports are false or Tamim is a liar, it has to be one or the other.

essex does have a high proportion of ukippers. Returned UKIPs only parliamentary seat in 2015. So a foreign brown person especially with a foreign accent n different style of dress would be a targeted for the narrow minded bigots.

Very strange.

Given the recent history of Essex could a fixer/illegal bookie have spooked him? (A'la Zulqarnain Haider - 'because get bad msg fr 1 man fr lose the match in last game').

....and in typical fashion, Bangladeshi fans have completely trashed Essex cricket's social media handles.

As if it was their fault!

The Essex Facebook page is not one that gets too many visitors, but the Bangladeshis are reigning supreme out there for now. Check out this gem:

I am Bangladesh & want to say that, England is terrorist country & they r can't be safety for playing cricket.
