Ambrose and McGrath are same kind of bowlers,I will drop one of them and pick Waqar/Donald in the squad.

Well if its the teams above - one would assume each of the players were at the peak of their powers....

Also am assuming Tests...

Smith , Wasim etc should win in my view.

Happy to change teams if desired

Ambrose and McGrath are same kind of bowlers,I will drop one of them and pick Waqar/Donald in the squad.

The issue with that is that they are both so good. Significantly better averages that Donald, Waqar. Also good in all conditions (excpet Ambrose in India)

Donald didn't step up against the best oppo(aus)
Waqar was truly brilliant for 4 years, following that was merely good

I will pick this team over the two.

Gavaskar
Hayden
Lara
Tendulkar

360° AB
Gilchrist(wkt)

Donald performed well against Australia(not great) till his last 2 tours against Australia when he was getting more injured and he was past his prime.
Here's the stats before last 2 tours against Australia.

70-80s team needs a spinner - don’t know whom to drop - I’ll drop Botham for Qadir; rest are spot on.

90-00s team should drop Ambi for Muralitharan. It’s a tough call, but that Lankan guy must make the playing XI, unless it’s a green top, even on grass he was unique. I am divided between Saeed & Hayden, probably Hayden makes better sense, but my personal choice is Saeed.

I think for second team Smith is the given captain, but not sure whom to appoint for the first team. Imran was the greatest motivator & leader, almost one man army, but he wasn’t tactically that astute - he encouraged his players to raise their game, fight hard and above all he led from the front. I think, I’ll make Border captain of that team.

Very tight call - may be in AUS/SAF & UK, the first team will win a 6 Test series 4-2 or at worst draw 3-3, but in India, the second team is better, for two spinners and the batting capacity of Lara, SRT against spin (surprisingly, Hayden as well) - may be 4-2 or at worst 3-3 in India as well, but opposite direction.

like the look of this, although I feel viv > both AB's, and Marshall has to play, likely instead of Wasim.

Agree with Murali, especially as amny of the 70's-80's players never faced exceptional spin bowling.

For the 70's team having 5 genuine fast bowlers removes the need for spinners due to workload purposes. However still could be used in Asia, but this is assuaged by four of the fast bowlers having terrific records in the subcontinent. A spinner for me would come in for Lillee, as Botham was a complete matchwinner and Lillee's record isn't particularly rounded. I would also pick Bedi as the spinner, as Qadir was useless outside the subcontinent

No Dale Steyn with his achievements? Also no Smith with his record?

Should not Steve Smith be an almost certain candidate for post 2000 team?
