Anyone watch this? 8 episodes of season 1 were released last week. It is a world where superheroes are omnipresent and very popular. These superheroes are however at best, reckless with their collateral damage and at worst, malevolent. Their crimes are covered up by Vought enterprises who act as their corporate masters as well. The Boys is a group of vigilantes who hunt them down spearheaded by Billy Butcher who despises any and all superheroes (Even some genuinely good ones).

As you can tell, the show (based on the comics by Garth Ennis) is very violent, and very darkly funny. It sneaks in some unsubtle political commentary and is rather relevant in today's times with the unhealthy obsession with social media. If you are sick of the superhero saturation going on today, this is a very good antidote and even if you are not, this is just a very good show.

They got Butcher totally wrong. Why pick an actor who can’t sound like an Englishman?

I like their Hughie, and their Starlight is very good.

But why haven’t The Boys got super strength?

No, I think Karl Urban makes a good Butcher, he just can't get the accent going properly. I'm actually surprised. He was fine as Eomer in Lord of the Rings.

It seems they've mixed up some of the story arcs too as well as outright changed them. Mother's Milk had the powers in the comics, they've given it to the girl for the tv show. None of the other's ever had super strength.

I personally think they are based on or are darker parodies of the more known superheroes anyway.

Homelander is Superman, Queen Maeve is Wonder Woman, A-Train is The Flash, The Deep is obviously Aqua Man etc.

Homelander does.

'The Boys' refers to the five vigilantes - Butcher, Hughie etc. Not the superheroes.

You are correct.
The writer of the comic book series that the show is based on parodied DC and Marvel heroes on purpose to show what it would be like if superpowers were real.

They all did. Butcher injected Hughie with the Compound V.
