Unknown militants detonated an explosive device in a mosque in the village of Al Rawdah in the center of Bir al-Abed in Northern Sinai on Friday.

Sources said that unknown persons planted an explosive device next to the mosque in the village and detonated the bomb during Friday prayers.

Preliminary information indicates many victims after the explosion and ambulances were seen rushing to the scene.

The Ministry of Health in Egypt tell Al Arabiya English that an estimated 75 people have been killed or injured by the attack while others fear that the casualty numbers may go over 100.

Meanwhile Egyptian authorities have closed the recently reopened Rafah border passage with Gaza after the attack citing security concerns.

155 dead - this is appalling and senseless.

I wonder if the online Islamophobes will take note of this - Muslims are the biggest victims of these terrorist thugs.

RIP.

Rather than taking note, I imagine they are whooping for joy. If I hated the white power movement, nothing would make me happier than to see the Confederate White Knights bombing the KKK meetings in Texas.

Man. This breaks my heart.

These terrorists are a curse and deserve to be exterminated.

May Allah grant Jannah to all the martyrs. May all these terrorists rot in hell.

235+ killed means it’s a catastrophe.

I thought Egypt was peaceful barring the Muslim - Christian clashes.

Are we really so small and so scared of a difference of opinion? This goes beyond denunciation. Words do not suffice. I just weep.

Every time there is an attack in the western world or India by Islamist terrorists, someone will bring up geo-political provocation or Kashmir or Taliban created by the CIA.

I'm really curious and this is not a sarcastic post - what have the Sufis done other than trying to follow their own path to their spiritual goals?

Pasting it from someone else:

This is how Terrorists work:
If you are not Muslim, you will get killed for being just that.
If you are a Muslim but not Sunni, you will be killed for being Heretics.
If you are Sunni but not a Salafi, you will be killed for being a Bidati (Bidati is derived from Bidah: a form of heresy).
If you are a Salafi but not a terrorist, you will be killed for being a Munafiq (Hypocrite) because you didn't join the terrorists.

You can't get more peaceful than a Sufi.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajioon.

May Allah bless them all with Jannah...

So Trump is using this terrorist atrocity by Isis against other Muslims to justify his decision in building a wall to stop Mexican immigrants entering the USA? And to justify banning Muslims from entering the USA because Isis is killing Muslims?

Contrast and compare...

More than 300 people have been killed and we are interested in who and how many tweeted what.
The tweets of the most powerful man in the world, the Commander-in-Chief of the most powerful military forces in the world, the President of the USA, are of profound interest, even more so at times of atrocities such as this. His tweets carry the power to bringing nations to the brink of war, the power to influence world events, and you're making asinine comments when I've queried a post that implies that I'm "condoning" whatever he thinks I'm condoning.
(Hope he's not suggesting that I'm condoning this terrorist atrocity!)

Either that or neither of you understand the meaning of "condoning"

Are you doing anything to initiate this or just condoning those that havent?.

Who is behind this? CIA/Mossad?

Or is it Hardline Muslims themselves?
Twisted individuals who believe their version of Islam is true, and the victim's version of Islam is false.

(Although by definition, every religion, every sect within every religion, every faction within every sect, believes that their version of religion is the only true version, and thus by definition, every other version is wrong/incorrect. However, 99.999% of followers don't resort to violence and murdering those whose views differ)

Are you doing anything to initiate this or just condoning those that havent?.
"condoning" those that havent? :20:
Did you complain when world leaders didnt come together and link arms when 58 people were killed in Vegas, what was your response then.
You're now evading the question. What do mean by me "condoning" those that havent? I sincerely hope that you're not accusing me of 'condoning' the terrorist action. Hence, I'm offering you an opportunity to clarify what you meant by that accusation.

Read it again, I'm not accusing you of condoning terrorists. I'm not even talking about the terrorists.

Did you question why world leaders didnt link hands when 58 Americans were killed in Vegas or not?.

The thread is about terrorism. You made an accusation that i was "condoning". For about the 3rd or 4th time, yet again you're evading the question as to what you meant by that. That can only mean one thing. You made a vile, unsubstantiated and false accusation. But then again, thats par for the course for you.

RIP tragic.

IS are pretty much ruined so it's strange they can carry out bombings like this with relative ease.

Egypt attack: Gunman targets Coptic Christians in church and shop

Nine people have been killed in two attacks on Coptic Christians in Helwan district, south of Cairo, Egypt's interior ministry has said.

Six civilians and a policeman died when a gunman tried to storm a church but was intercepted and arrested, it said.

It said the man had previously attacked a Coptic-owned shop in the same area, killing two brothers.

The so-called Islamic State (IS) has claimed its "soldiers" carried out the church attack.

The interior ministry's account differs from an earlier version of events given by Egypt's health ministry.

The initial report said 12 were dead, and suggested there were two attackers. It said one had been killed, and the other fled but was later captured.

More than 100 Christians have been killed in Egypt in the past year, with most attacks claimed by the local branch of IS militants.

Egypt country profile
Security forces have reinforced checkpoints in place around the capital in response to the attacks.

They announced plans earlier this week to protect festivities around the New Year and, on 7 January, Coptic Christmas. They include the deployment of rapid-reaction forces, combat troops and jamming equipment.

Conflicting accounts

According to the interior ministry statement, the first attack on Friday took place at a household appliances shop. Then the attacker headed to the Saint Mina Coptic church, where he attempted "to trespass the church's perimeter security".

"The security forces have dealt with the attacker and managed to arrest him after he was injured," the ministry said.

Security forces are on guard around the capital

But it said that seven people, including an auxiliary policeman, had been killed and four injured as the gunman opened fire at the church.

The attacker also had an explosive device, a machine gun and 150 rounds, it added.

The ministry suggested he was known to security services, saying he was "one of the most active terrorist elements and he carried out several terrorist attacks which resulted in the martyrdom of a number of policemen and civilians".

However, the interior ministry account contradicts earlier ones from officials and witnesses, who spoke of a higher death toll and more than one attacker.

Video footage has also emerged appearing to show one gunman lying dead at the scene and another alleged attacker fleeing in a red car.

String of attacks
In the wake of Friday's attacks, President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi offered condolences to family members and vowed to continue "cleansing the country of terrorism and extremism".

Egypt's Copts have in the past accused the authorities of making only token gestures to protect them and these incidents will not help calm tensions, our correspondent Radwa Gamal says.

Egypt is a Muslim-majority country and its Christian minority - mostly members of the Coptic Orthodox Church - make up around 10% of the population.

Last Easter, on Palm Sunday, at least 45 people died in twin attacks on Coptic churches in Alexandria and the Nile Delta city of Tanta. At least 29 Copts were killed on a bus en route to a monastery in central Egypt in May, and a Coptic Orthodox priest was stabbed to death in Cairo in October.

The attacks have been blamed on, and in many cases claimed by, Islamists affiliated with IS.

Ten soldiers have been killed or wounded in a blast targeting an armoured vehicle in the restive northern Sinai on Thursday, Egypt's army said.

Army spokesman Tamer al-Rifai said the casualties from the incident in the southern city of Bir al-Abed included an officer but did not provide a breakdown on the numbers killed or wounded.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, which occurred during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

For years, security forces have been battling to contain the fighting in the turbulent North Sinai which intensified following the removal of President Mohamed Morsi by the military in 2013.

Many soldiers and police were killed in fighter attacks, especially in the turbulent region over the years.

In February 2018, Egyptian security forces launched a nationwide operation against fighters, mainly focused on the North Sinai region.

More than 845 suspected fighters have been killed in the region along with more than 60 security personnel, according to army figures.

An Egyptian policeman and seven suspected fighters were killed on April 14 in an exchange of fire after the interior ministry received information about potential Easter attacks against Coptic Christians, the ministry said, adding that three other policemen had also been wounded.

At least 41 people have reportedly been killed in a fire at a church near Egypt's capital, Cairo.

The number of dead was announced by the country's Coptic Church, citing health officials.

Fourteen other people were reportedly injured.

An electrical fire broke out as 5,000 worshippers gathered for mass at the Coptic Abu Sifin church in the Imbaba neighbourhood, sources told the Reuters news agency.

The fire blocked an entrance to the church, causing a stampede, they said, adding that most of those killed were children.

"People were gathering on the third and fourth floor, and we saw smoke coming from the second floor," said Yasir Munir, a worshipper at the church.

"People rushed to go down the stairs and started falling on top of each other.

"Then we heard a bang and sparks and fire coming out of the window," he said, saying he and his daughter were on the ground floor and able to escape.

President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi spoke by phone with the Coptic Christian Pope Tawadros II to offer his condolences, the president's office said.

"I am closely following the developments of the tragic accident," el-Sissi wrote on Facebook.

"I directed all concerned state agencies and institutions to take all necessary measures, and immediately to deal with this accident and its effects."

Sunday's blaze is one of the worst fire tragedies in recent years in a country where safety standards and fire regulations are poorly enforced.

In March last year, a fire at a garment factory near Cairo killed at least 20 people and injured 24 more.

Maher Murad told Reuters he left his sister at the church after prayers, adding: "As soon as I got away from the church by only 10 metres, I heard the sound of screaming and saw thick smoke.

"After the firefighters doused the fire, I recognised my sister's body.

"The bodies were all charred, and many of them are children who were in a nursery room in the church."

"There are children, we didn't know how to get to them," said Abu Bishoy.

"And we don't know whose son this is, or whose daughter that is. Is this possible?"

The interior ministry said it received a report of the fire at 9am local time, and the blaze broke out in an air conditioner in the building's second story.

Egypt seems to have stabilized after a few years of unrest.

Not a fan of Sisi though.
