Officials in Beijing and Islamabad claim the corridor – a vast web of planned infrastructure projects running diagonally from the resource-rich region of Xinjiang in western China to the deep-water port of Gwadar on Pakistan’s Arabian coast – will spark an “economic revolution” in the south Asian country.

China is poised to become the World #1 in the next decade or so. Which is a big ++ for Pakistan as well.

As a bit of a sweetener for everyone, read the comments on that article. A lot of steaming head jealousy coming from thy neighbor (wonder which one ? :uakmal).

Its a great project and China is country capable of doing it but instead of taking a dig at comment section why not see thr comment mentioned in the article by a Pakistani national.

Offtopic ,would be nice to drive all the way though.

What impact does it have on Baluchistan's economy? Hopefully the revolution is not limited to certain provinces.

Hopefully the rebirth of a world-economy where NW "Europe" (they were Germanic barbarians for Romans, Syrians are more "Europeans") was contingent, and the end of their predatory imperialism.

India should join the dynamics.

On topic, have to say that China's vision is impressive. Most other world powers would have been scared off trying to build infrastructure in such wild territories, but they seem determined to see it through despite the turmoil. They seem to be building diplomatic bridges as well as literal ones. Obviously they are doing it for their own purposes, but when has that not been the case for any world power? If other nations on the route can benefit as well then good for them.

One Belt-One Road initiative will help defeat terrorism: PM Nawaz

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has termed China’s One Belt-One Road (OBOR) initiative a powerful tool for overcoming terrorism and extremism.

“The Chinese initiative of One Belt-One Road will take humankind to a higher level of prosperity, peace and stability through connectivity and close contact,” he said while addressing the plenary session of the OBOR Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing on Sunday.

The Chinese initiative, Premier Nawaz said, signifies that geo-economics must take precedence over geo-politics, and the centre of gravity should shift from conflict to cooperation.

“Peace and development go hand-in-hand and nothing can pave the path for peace and security more than economic development achieved through regional collaboration,” Radio Pakistan quoted the prime minister as saying.

On Saturday, Pakistan had signed new deals with China worth nearly $500 million as Premier Nawaz met President Xi Jinping ahead of Beijing’s international forum on its OBOR initiative.

Talking about the multibillion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the prime minister said it is a core project of OBOR that aims to connect the neighbourhoods of East and West Asia. “CPEC makes Pakistan both a conduit and destination for cross-regional investment and trade.”

The premier is leading a high-level delegation in China where he is expected to meet world leaders on the sidelines of One Belt-One Road Forum as he is due to participate in an investment conference and meet business and corporate leaders. He will also visit Hangzhou and Hong Kong.

According to reports, several agreements are expected to be signed between Islamabad and Beijing in connection with CPEC project during the visit.

PM Nawaz is accompanied by four chief ministers and some senior federal ministers, including Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Railways Saad Rafique, State Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastagir, Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal, Minister of State for IT Anusha Rahman and Foreign Affairs Adviser Sartaj Aziz.
