Pakistan took a 1-0 series lead by a small margin in the second game. After the washed-out first T20I, the series is now effectively a three-match clash and the visitors are only one win away.

Overview

West Indies v Pakistan, third T20I
Providence Stadium, Providence
1 August, 11:00 Local

Pakistan’s top order yet again proved to be the pillars over which the visitors’ success depended upon but it was the bowling that tacitly pulled it back for Pakistan in the second game.

However, the graph of improvement of the lower middle-order batting line-up for Pakistan has plateaued and could be an area of concern before the ICC Men's T20 World Cup later this year. Mohammad Hafeez, who leads the middle-order, has averaged 11.77 in 2021 in 12 appearances while Fakhar Zaman averages 20.33.

On the other hand, West Indies uncharacteristically struggled with changing the gears and chasing down a below-par total. Although, the Windies bowling has seen a lot of positives that exploded the visitors while conceding only 23 and picking up six wickets at the death.

Remember the last time

In the second clash, Pakistan got off to a flier with Mohammad Rizwan’s 46 and Babar Azam’s 51. But as the rain interrupted the play and the match resumed, Pakistan crumbled to 157/8 in 20 overs after they looked on track to reach 180 at one stage.

West Indies batters struggled against the spin with Hafeez leading the way. Hafeez returned with the match-winning economical figures of 4-1-6-1 while Shadab Khan conceded only 22 in his four overs that helped Pakistan restrict the hosts to seven runs short of the target.

What they said

Mohammad Hafeez (Pakistan player): “As a bowler, this was my first Player of the Match, so, I’ll remember it forever. But were 10-15 runs short according to our original plan. Everybody knows the calibre of West Indies batter and the big-hitters they have but we backed ourselves. The morale is high but it is the batting that we have to improve and we are capable of that.”

Kieron Pollard (West Indies captain): “The guys really fought through and yes we came out on the losing end but the fight we kept through, that was impressive. Will have a lot of intense discussions and try to put your foot forward each and every time. It's all about improvement. For us, someone has to win and someone has to lose and yes we ended up on the losing end today but, all hope is not lost.”

Pakistan should win this one easily.
West Indies never do well against Pakistan.

Expect a tougher fight from WI, I think Pak got away with an ordinary total largely due to economical bowling from Hafeez and Shadab and some timely wickets from Hasan Ali and Wasim. Shaheen finished well considering Pooran was in good flow.

Pakistan must play maturely and improve upon the bowling in the death overs.

Usman Qadir should be dropped for Imad Wasim, because the latter can offer something with the bat as well.

Sharjeel should also be dropped, but his delusional fanbase will want another chance, and the fact that he is in the squad would mean the management will give him a last chance to prove his worth.

Ideally, I would play the following squad:

Sohaib Maqsood
Mohammad Rizwan (wk)
Babar Azam (c)
Mohammad Hafeez
Fakhar Zaman
Sharjeel Khan
Shadab Khan
Imad Wasim
Hasan Ali
Mohammad Wasim Jr.
Shaheen Shah Afridi

Maqsood has more batting intellect and is a good timer of the ball. Unlike Sharjeel, I trust his shot selection and think that he is better utilized at the top of the order.

Sharjeel should bat lower down because he is good at slogging.

They should go in with the same team.Qadir needs to bowl his 4 overs.

Is it Misbah aur Babar? Why cant they understand that Maqsood is a failure when the field is Open. He is better of tried as a Opener with Fakhar. First 6 overs he can be deadly.

Mohd Wasim Jnr must be used as an opening bowler we should rest Shaheen.

If Amir can make a comeback we could potentially have a bowling attack that can defend low scores as well.

Teams experiment must end now, we should start playing 11 for the WC starter.

Fakhar Zaman
Sohaib Maqsood
Babar
Hafeez
Rizwan Sooner we realise better it is.
Imad Wasim
Shadab K
Hassan Ali
Mohd Wasim jnr
Arshad Iqbal
Usman Qadir

Pakistan will win these games easily West indies batsmen have no clue how to get singles. too much dot balls a problem that they cannot seem to fix.

They should go in with the same team.Qadir needs to bowl his 4 overs.

They should drop Qadir and go with Nawaz. Qadir is not the answer so might as well give some practice to better contenders before the world cup.

We already know what nawaz is capable off but do we know what qadir is capable of proberly not.

I am hoping for Weather to hold till 2 PM local time that will ensure a result with minimum disruption.

So, Rain has stopped and covers coming off. I hope they don't delay the start as rain is expected later in the afternoon

The rain has stopped and we should be into action soon.

With the inclusion of Rauf. It has a WI victory written all over it.

Rauf is garbage should’ve went with Hasnain

I think its the death overs where they prefer Rauf more than Hansain or Arshad. However, he will have to deliver better than he did against Eng.

All things pointing to WI victory with WI batting first and Rauf in the team in place of Afridi. Shaheen deserves rest and Rauf needs to be tried to see if Pak will stick with him or drop him. WI will attack spinners more today.

Hafeez concedes 6 in 4 overs yesterday, concedes 6 in 0.2 overs today.

Hafeez going for same amount of runs in two balls as he did in the entire match yesterday.

Thats a pretty heavy shower. One can hope a passing one

Have looked a better wicket than yesterday

Another rain delay. When is the corrupt greedy ICC going to invest money on some indoor cricket stadiums? Rain delays in 2021? That is a bloody joke.

I'm not sure you appreciate what a monumental task this would be

:shhh

Always funny when people adamantly say things with such confidence and assurance but with no actual knowledge

What knowledge does one need to have to predict the weather accurately ? The forecast was better a while ago and still the chances of a game happening are 70%. If it starts pouring down all of a sudden and doesn't stop , not anyone's fault.

The knowledge you get from looking at the weather forecast lol!

There was always rain forecast and has been for the last few days

Ever since I can remember, this has always been the case with matches played in Guyana.. rain stopped play.

Even if the sky is blue without a cloud in sight in Guyana, you will get a shower out of nowhere if a game of cricket is being played there.

Does anyone knows at what stage we start losing overs. Rain update pls as well

Raining very hard - Windies Audio comm saying he's never seen so much water on the field in Providence!

The weather looked fine and bright 30 minutes ago..from where has so much rain arrived all of a sudden .

Heavy rain and thunder as per one of the cricket apps. Not looking good currently.

Don’t know about the time when overs will start to decrease but, I think it wont be a 20 over match if and when it resumes.

It doesn't matter. They have the money. It's unacceptable that cricket matches don't reach an outcome because of rain. I can't think of any other sport where that is the case. No wonder cricket isn't a very popular sport.

Of course it matters.

Just putting a roof on a tennis court in the UK took about 10 years and cost millions. Imagine doing it to a cricket stadium. Go take a look at Lords, Oval etc and tell me how they would put a roof on it.

Indeed corrupt ICC.

Why have they not build 500 million USD stadions in every cricket country.

They dont have to spend millions just use common sense. Weather must be a primary concern while scheduling matchs and weather prediction must taken into account

While scheduling.

Then build smaller cricket stadiums with roofs on it.

Their is a indoor cricket stadium in Melbourne aus......well ita a multi purpose arena, but a good size cricket stadium non the less

All the hype around 5 match practice before the World T20 may well reduce to a 1 or 2 match series in the end.
