"The way Iftikhar Ahmed played in the T20I series is the biggest plus for us" : Misbah-ul-Haq

Misbah-ul-Haq speaking to the PCB

"Until we score 170-180 runs in T20Is...we only had 2 batsmen who played well in the series, the rest could not contribute so we have to improve these aspects of the game in the future"

"The biggest positive in this series was Babar Azam's form, also the way Iftikhar Ahmed played is the biggest plus for us"

"The way our youngsters bowled, especially Musa as he bowled with good pace, I feel that these youngsters can serve our cricket in the future"

"I believe we need to improve our fitness and discipline in all 3 departments of the game which is where we are lacking, and Australia outclassed us in that; Especially, fielding was a clear difference, also their bowling in the right areas and then we could not stop their top-3 batsmen"

"We are a good Test side, there are youngsters in it as well and we will be hoping to play good cricket"

"Overall, I feel that our Test side is mature and experienced and some players have played cricket in Australia before as well"

MUH got that right, as a neutral observer- i thought IA was fantastic and if used correctly can give your team the cutting edge....the problem is the toporder other than Babar need to fire....

Misbah is bad but Waqar after so many years of coach is the worst in the coaching management.

Poor guy will get bashed even for this while Mickey used to get away saying generic garbage like, 'Proud Team' , Hate to lose' and other bla blahs.

Before series started, was Misbah unaware of huge gulf between Aus and Pak fielding standards?

Yet he chose to play biggest fielding liability Irfan?

exactly, thats why i said this guy sounds absolutely clueless. Our team is being directed by a headless chicken unfortunately

Marks my words, Pakistan might surprise the Aussies in Tests.

Truer words have never been spoken! Sadly, that is how the majority of our awaam reacts.

You would think that most people on PP would know and read beyond "we're a proud team that hates losing".

But no. We kept losing perpetually in the formats that matter. But Mickey being a foreigner and using sweet words, playing to the gallery, means he wouldn't be criticized for his dark era.

Misbah will undo that dark era, and this doesn't happen overnight. He hasn't even built his ODI and Test teams yet. Not a single series too. People want results.

0-5 to 30-7. Have some shame.

I can you tell right now Australia will whitewash Pakistan in the Test series.

Misbah does not know what he is doing. 3 years is for figuring out how to coach a national side. Pakistan team is just a regular domestic team for him.

Only because Adelaide is a Pink Ball Greentop lottery.

Bat first, declare at Dinner on 240 and knock over the opposition in the first hour of falling darkness.

Then repeat on Day 2 and you win a Test that only goes 200 overs.

Over the last six t20’s we have seen shehzad, Akmal, irfan, wahab being selected for the t20 team. And we can look forward to Hafeez and Malik making come backs. Somehow Misbah still doesn’t get how big a role his selection howlers have played in the t20 results

Only if Int. Cricket was this easy.

That is the expected result. No matter what the team is. So, this isn't any revelation.

However, we have to first rebuild the fortress and start winning Tests at home. That's the real job.

What we can appreciate him for though is that these selections were bold and mostly on merit. All the above performed in recent domestic tournaments

Selections aren't done from spreadsheets. All it shows is that Misbah has terrible judgement as even a 5 year old could tell you those players are no longer international quality

And Misbah your existence is the biggest minus for us

It's all a learning process. So far in 6 T20is we've learned: Iftikhar GOOD. U. Akmal BAD. Shehzad BAD. Most expensive learning curve if there ever was one.

What about the negatives, did you learn anything from your mistakes, Misbah?

Who's going to talk about the performances of Wahab, Irfan, Asif, etc

They're not done on whim and personal preference either like our last chief selector was doing. Selection should be based on form and performance in domestics to have any merit. It's good to see the PCB move towards this approach

If a selectors job is to sort batsmen and bowlers on an excel sheet highest to lowest, then I am pretty sure I can do this job

Define “biggest plus” misbah? I would call it “choti choti khushiyan”

Shows inzi n micky was the best selector n coach in our history. Current set up is clueless

Misbah will undo that dark era, and this doesn't happen overnight. He hasn't even built his ODI and Test teams yet. Not a single series too. People want results.

Hasn’t he already done that?
He didn’t trust the decisions made by Inzi, Mickey and Sarfaraz by bringing back Akmal and Shehzad - that has already paid huge dividends.

He’s bought Irfan into the team and then complained about the fitness and fielding of the team.

At the moment he appears to be clueless.

Misbah will have been itching to get this announcement out there as he's aware of the backlash against his rubbish decisions and humiliating defeats.

I like this attitude, just turn up to make up the numbers. This is going to take us far. :yk

You select new players based on form and appearance, if you're bringing back tried and tested players then they need to have shown they’ve worked on and corrected the flaws that they were dropped for. Misbah's selections have been anything but

The previous selector was a good judge of which novice players could make a mark at the international level because he understood our domestic cricket is useless in identifying these players.
Misbah is going to have to learn the hard way.

Early days. Give it time. And we've only played meaningless T20s till now, it's the place for experimentation, to build a team that can compete in the World T20 next year.

We wouldn't have done anything with the previous T20 team at the WT20. With our fake T20 rankings, there would have been no introspection and changes to improve things.

Now, thankfully, there will be changes.

Brining Umar Akmal back was a masterstroke, because we need him. Why? You should've watched this series. None of our batters can play pacers, let alone hit them. Only Babar and Ifti can. Umar definitely can too. Too bad he was dropped, that was a bad decision. He needs to be in the Wt20 team.

I like this attitude, just turn up to make up the numbers. This is going to take us far. :yk

How come? We kept losing at home in Tests under Mickey. SL whitewashed us..

To become a top 4 Test team, you first have to become unbeatable at home. Then to become the No. 1 to 2 team, you have to occasionally beat good teams away.

You can only play to your best against the team against you - calling it meaningless and fake is disingenuous.
Sorry I don’t share your praise for Akmal. He is a mental midget who has repeatedly shown that he fails on the big occasions.

The masterstroke that scored 2 ducks.

I have nothing against recalls, but if the recall is an "abject failure" and you still want another "recall based on probability someone might fire", you might as well induct yourself or me in the team, because we might fire once upon a time.

I get why he was recalled but he showed Misbah exactly why he shouldnt have been.

Umar Akmal is a comedian who masquerades as a batsmen at times and then throws in the towel whenever the audience wants an encore.

Not really, Inzi didn't have any revolutionary picks. His only mainstay pick was Imam. The rest of his picks were PSL performers and mostly from Misbah's team, Islamabad United
