Younis Khan speaking after Day 1 of the tour match against Cricket Australia XI:

"It was a good effort from the CA XI bowlers, they hit the deck very well all the time. There weren't any easy runs for us and the outfield is slow."

"International cricket is all about adjusting and dealing with the situation. We didn't have any time to prepare in NZ but we've come here a bit earlier and we have some time to prepare. We will be focused."

"It's good that we have Mickey Arthur with us. The good thing about him is he spends time with us and gives us some tips and motivation. If you play according to the situation and know the opposition then it becomes easier."

"I feel for the CA XI youngsters. It's not easy when you're facing Amir, Rahat and Wahab."

"There's more seam and swing here under lights. Normally there isn't much swing in Australia. Big difference between Dubai and here with the pink ball."

"The way Amir ended the day was exciting. We just want there to be good cricket between Pakistan and Australia, two good teams."

"If you have swing and pace bowlers then you have a good chance in these conditions. There's always something there for the bowlers. If you're brave enough to work on your technique, there's something for the batsmen too."

"For me, I live in the present. I don't think about the past. The hundreds I scored against Australia in UAE are in the past. If I do well, I'm happy - if not, I work hard."

"As a senior player, it's my duty to pass my experience onto the youngsters like Babar Azam, Asad Shafiq and Mohammad Nawaz. They need advice. I have a lot of respect for them, and they for me."

"The way Misbah leads the side is good for us and he motivates us and makes the youngsters calm."

"For us, it's all about the team. In the last two or three years, we just play for each other and for the people back in Pakistan since there is no cricket back home. Everyone watches and follows us. If I do something for my nation, I will be a relieved man so I motivate myself at this age and same goes for Misbah. We're successful as a team due to this thinking."

"When we drew the series in England, everyone was happy about it. Even though we didn't win the series, we played well at Lord's and at the The Oval. The reception to that motivates us further and we know people will be very happy if we can perform well in this series."

Brilliant interview, Misbah is a top captian no doubt. Hope we can bat better and bowl close to this brilliant start against Australia. Younis Khan please another century

It's all about the team. Hmm interesting.

Worrying to hear that there's more swing & seam movement in Australia under lights with the pink ball. Could be a huge problem for Pakistan.

Luckily we're playing a team about as bad in dealing with swinging and seaming conditions in Australia !

Here's the thing, it's not just the fact that it's tricky for our batsman to deal with swinging and seaming conditions; heck which international team doesn't? While the PCB need to be criticised for the poor preparations for the NZ tour it is not the fault of our batsman that we did not get to play any warm up games in NZ or the delay caused by the earthquake; our first competitive game in NZ in the backdrop of all the delays, distractions and bad prep was a Test Match in tricky conditions mind you for any international team and we predictably flopped!

That doesn't necessarily make our batsman god awful but they simply had not acclimatised to the conditions well enough to punch above their weight, come the pink ball Test you will see a significant improvement in the way we handle swing and seaming conditions.

Mr, Younis Khan, the way Misbah is leading and keep selecting you, I'm sure its good for "you" but not for "us".

Shafiq's form is very disappointing. Hope the investment in him doesn't turn out to be a waste of time. He needs to score big in this series.

Didn't they already know this?

Maybe they should read my threads! :)

They definitely need to learn when to accelerate and when to declare!

This requires them to grasp that the hardest hour to bat is the hour IMMEDIATELY after Dinner. Not the Final Hour, the fifth hour.

That means that the following apply if you bat on Day 1:

1) OPTIMAL USE OF CONDITIONS
Bat 60 overs until Dinner
Bowl 30 overs after Dinner

Pakistan 240-6 declared
Australia 60-7 overnight with only the tail left for daylight.

2) INCORRECT USE OF CONDITIONS
Bat 75 overs until last Drinks Break after Dinner
Bowl 12 overs.

Pakistan 220-8 declared
Australia 30-2 overnight, with lots of batting left for daylight tomorrow

3) CATASTROPHIC USE OF CONDITIONS
Bat 84 overs until just before the close.
Bowl 2 overs.

Pakistan 240-9 declared
Australia 2-0 overnight, with all the batting to punish you in daylight tomorrow.

The key, as I keep saying, is that even if your attack is moderate, you will dismiss good batsmen after Dinner. And the more overs you bowl after Dinner, the more top order batsmen you will remove.

One other thing.

Australia was monumentally hopeless at Trent Bridge and Hobart - much worse than Pakistan was at Christchurch and Hamilton.

I would argue that seaming, swinging conditions - whether caused by Night conditions or anything else - actually favour Pakistan over Australia.
