Before I start my argument, I am NOT talking about Test cricket and test batsmen.. I am only talking about T20 batting, and the argument could be extended to limited overs cricket in general...

PSL has had some worrying moments (in terms of match fixing stuff) and some thrilling matches as well, but the most worrying moment for a Pakistani fan is witnessing the gulf between foreign batsmen and Pakistani ones.

  • Peshawar Zalmi have been total reliant on Morgan by now.
  • Quetta Gladiators have been heavily reliant on Rossouw
  • Islamabad United has been also relying on likes of Sam Billings. Point to note is that top order of Islamabad United is all foreigners...
  • Lahore Qalanders have been reliant on Jason Roy more or less.
  • Karachi kings foreign batsmen have not been in form and seems like this is the reason for their dismal performance...

I am not talking about playing some beautiful shots and some lusty blows - and than getting out by some stupid shot. But batsmen with ability to soak pressure and hold the innings together - while keeping strike rate well above 100. The Pakistani batsmen who have been able to do the above things by now are Misbah & Sarfraz...

Is the talent cupboard empty when it comes to limited overs batting??

Definitely. It seems like a battle between the foreign batsmen vs Pakistani bowlers.

Well it kinda looks like there are a lot of tried and tested failure in the side. No young talent to develop besides a few. If our youngsters were to bat with these batsmen I am sure they would develop there game for the future.

In the next addition of PSL I hope we see more younger talent who could benefit from this league.

Fakhar Zaman and Sarfraz look good but yeah for the most part you are right. Hoping Rizwan is given more chances to bat higher up and Umar quickly finds some form. Misbah has been solid as always.

On the plus side the bowlers look good. Hasan Ali, Yasir,Asghar, Muhammad Irfan jnr, have all done well so far

you forgot Kamran Akmal, he scored almost half of the 190 runs with terrific strike rate after professor got a golden duck, Zalmi could have won it but Sammy dropped the match when he dropped Haddin early

And Umar Akmal was supposed to be the highest scoring batsman in PSL. A good wake up call for Akmal fans. Can't believe some even want him in tests.

Foreign batsmen were out done by young Pakistani today..sarfraz batted well..akmal snr has done well so has misbah..most of our young guns are bowlers but I'm sure we will see some batters click soon..

Indeed do guys like Morgan, Roy deserve credit for having dealt well with spin. Pakistani bats on the other hand mess up after a start (AS USUAL).

Sharjah is a better track so I hope the Pakistani bats shine for once.

Which is why you need a sixth team. Franchise owners will always go for experience and with only 5 teams the talented kids get left behind.

this shouldn't be surprising

for anyone following Pak cricket in the last decade, our ODI and T20 batsmen have clearly not been a match for other top orders

Hysteria!!!
2 teams have played 3 games each and 3 teams played 2 games each. We've only just started.
Khi: Babar scored a 50(highest score) in one of the 2 games his team played. Sohail Khan was the best bowler in the match yesterday.
QG: Nawaz and Hassan(man of the match) were key to defending a small target in the first game. Sarfraz played a match winning knock alongside Roussov coming in at 30-3 in the second match and finished the game.
Isb: 2 of their senior local players have been sent back home. Misbah played a blinder just yesterday.

I want Pak. players to top charts. Not Shane Watson and Rilee Roussouw. :(

Which is why you need a sixth team. Franchise owners will always go for experience and with only 5 teams the talented kids get left behind.

Well wouldn't they feel better if they developed a talent to represent there teams? A talent who will carry there teams on in the future?

If they continue to go on with this mentality even the sixth team won't make a difference. Because if you want to talk about experience there are still some notable names who fit that category who have not played this years PSL. Salman Butt and Asif is to name a few.

I think, volume of runs are not the bigger concern - only few PAK players are batting in top 3 - last year Umar, Sharjeel & Ahmed had great tournament; this year so far they have failed, but just 20% of the tournament has gone past.

What is alarming is that, whatever PAK batsmen have done it's by 43 years old Misbah, 35 years old KAkmal, Sarfu & a little from 35 years old Malik. All most nothing from younger players & some of the top names like Babar, Haris, Shehzad is almost limping.

I don't see many youngsters in this tournament. So I see no point in expecting the youngsters to fire. I hope our "experienced" players do some justice to there experience over the years.

you got 1 thing wrong islamabad united is dependent on Brad Haddin not Sam Billings :yk

IPL has the same issue, the main reason is PSL has just 5 teams.

You have your 15 playing team + 8 foreign players and you have 2 teams already. Add in the guys on the fringes + foreign players you got your 3rd and 4th team. and then you are left with a few emerging players and rest.

You need atleast 1 more team for youngsters to find themselves to get opportunity at the top to show something.

I made the point a few days ago that following the suspension of Sharjeel, the only specialist batsmen in the Islamabad United line up was Misbah, and he's virtually retired. That says everything about the current state of Pakistan's batting options.

All the overseas batsmen are good hitters too, well worth their places high up the order in comparison to someone like Asad Shafiq who might be technically sound, but has no hitting power during the power overs.

Future planning is something alien too most Pakistanis. They just want to win PSL 2 and do not care about anything else. The reason they paid big money for old pro's like Gayle, Baz. Very inconsistent but big names in T20.

It would be hard to replicate what KP did during that chase.
