Najam Sethi speaking to journalists

“PSL owners had asked us about the requirements to invest in the league and how much profit they would have. There were no issues with franchises during my term in office"

“The problems with the franchises have also increased due to some shortcomings of the PCB. The board should come up with a solution soon. The PSL teams should not have suffered any loss and when the stands of the stadium are filled with spectators in one or two years, there will automatically be solution to these problems"

“We were told that this project will not be completed and there is a risk of huge loss. Some of the PCB officials said that they did not have sufficient resources to initiate the PSL. But some of the officials were determined to start it. Hosting it in the UAE was another big challenge with lots of problems. Then a timeframe was given for the tournament. But then we were told that even there is no window to stage this event and it took a long time to overcome the issues."

“Sometimes it seemed to me that no one wanted the league to be held. There were also problems in TV rights. It was a difficult journey for us but we solved all the problems. We made PSL an international brand and I am very happy that now the whole event is taking place in Pakistan for which the board should be given credit but there still are questions about the quality"

PSL and the return of international cricket to Pakistan are his legacy. The greatest PCB chief ever.

Everything has declined in the county over the last 2 years including the PCB leadership.

I liked Sethi, I think he did a great job. Problem is his affiliation with PMLN legitimized "manageable corruption" which never ends well for any organisation. PCB would never have fully recovered because government crooks would have emptied the bank account as soon as major broadcast deals were signed.

We have saved ourselves another wasted decade so good he moved on at the right time.

You’re forgetting the fact that Sethi sold the rights to Multan Sultans to a company that’s plagued with fraudulent activities in Dubai courts and failed to deliver the money after their FIRST season. Saying franchises had no issue is a fat lie by Sethi because the most expensive franchise had to be resold soon as he left. You can support Sethi and still not throw a blanket approval over everything he did.

He was a curse to Pak Cricket. Destroyed Pakistan's cricket and took it two decades back.
He was PCB head and not only of the PSL.

* No Money for the Domestic Cricket Development

* PSL losses due to his Shaddy broadcasting deal with GEO

* Accepting Big Three and in return getting isolated by BCB

* Pathetic quality Domestic Tournaments with third quality Duke Ball, Green Tops
and that too among 16 substandard teams.

* Due to third quality duke balls and seaming wickets, our batting and spin bowling
standards fell two decades back.

* Zero investment in Cricketing Infrastructures like Stadiums, Grounds, Nationa Academies,
HPC Coaches, Biomechanical labs.

* Kept outdated HR in charge.

He was the worst thing to happen to PCB. Now many will term him as a Hero due to PSL. Just to remind them that PSL is a separate entity. He had other responsibilities as PCB head as well instead
of running this Circus.

The major priorities during his and Shahryar Khan’s tenure were the formation of PSL and the restoration of international cricket in Pakistan. It was the top agenda for PCB in 2010s and they delivered on both fronts.

I think he deserves some credit for the work he put in whilst Chairman of PCB.

Every Chairman has strengths and weaknesses and to be fair to Sethi he was in charge when PSL started.

PSL and International cricket in Pakistan would have happened during that time regardless of who was the chairman. He was just lucky to be around at that time

Wasim Khan is the one who finds himself at the right place at the right time. He is capitalizing on the efforts of Sethi and stealing the credit. He is the lucky one.

Back in 2015-16, it was much, much harder to convince teams to tour Pakistan because boards and players had no faith in the security arrangements of PCB.

At that time, PCB had nothing to fall back on except give verbal assurances.

However, getting the likes of Zimbabwe, West Indies and Sri Lanka etc. to make short tours, hosting a couple of PSL games and doing whatever he could to convince players including offering monetary incentives is what built confidence and credibility, and has now allowed Wasim Khan to be in a position where can host Test cricket and entire PSL in Pakistan.

Sethi did the dirty work and laid the platform and no one can take that away from him. PCB will forever be indebted to the great man who made PSL a reality and brought cricket home.

He was affiliated with PMLN which is the most corrupt party in history of Pakistan. He should have cut links with this party to allay fears of corruption and mistrust so I blame him for his downfall.
