I will be visiting Lahore next week for a business trip. Since this is going to be my first visit to Lahore, I would appreciate fellow ppers input regarding places to visit. I would also like input whether I should hire car rental services or there are public transportation available from Avari and PC Hotel.

Also please let me know places near Avari and PC where one can visit on foot as I will be a solo traveller.

Regards

You live in Karachi and you want to have rental car in Lahore ? Just get with cabs/rickshas dude ...

Don't miss Butt chicken karahi and Lakshmi chowk takka tak. :inzi

I always wanted to watch a match in Lahore. Regret not doing it when I had a chance. Only major test playing nation where I have not seen any live match.

Gaddafi stadium is nothing special. I can't believe we have such poor cricket stadiums. I will be shocked if any of them is a state of art facility.

It wasn't that much about one specific stadium to be honest but Gaddafi stadium's name stuck with me for some reason. Once I was planning it but it didn't happen. Hopefully, in future. Even better if it can happen in the next 5-7 years. UAE is not the same thing. Cricketers used to look forward to perform in Pakistan. UAE is not the same thing.

Waris Nihaari in Anaar Kali.
Tuesdays and Wednesdays, he cooks it with desi murgh instead of beef, and that desi murgh Nihaari is something else.

Go to Gawalmandi Food Street to eat famous Sardar Fish and Mochi to eat Shahi Kebabs.

Check out Lawrence Garden, Minto Park, Lahore Fort, Royal Mosque, Shahlimar Garden and finish it off with Pakistan Hindustan Flag changing ceremony at Wagah.

Thank you everyone for the suggestion...my major question eas whether public transport is easily available outisde PC or Avari hotel

Well, I'm not from Lahore, but I did stay there for a few months. Once I stepped out of the University, looked around for a taxi, and saw one of Nawaz Sharif's yellow cabs stopped by the roadside. I got in, barked an order to the driver, who promptly drove me where I wanted to go. I'm never the sort to haggle over the fare beforehand, so I didn't get the chance to speak to the driver.

When I got to my destination, I asked him how much. "No thanks," he said, in English. "This is a private car." I was flabbergasted. I mumbled a few words of apology, possibly gratitude, and was on my way.

The point being, sometimes you don't need public transport.

Alternately, you can commandeer public transport. I briefly fell in with a group of Abdalians, i.e. Cadet College Hasanabdal alumni. They had the habit of stopping a van, emptying it of passengers and the driver and conductor, and then driving around in it all day. They would compensate the driver afterwards, but not the passengers.

Of course to pull off this stunt, you need a posse of spoilt young men from fauji backgrounds who feel entitled enough to do this. There may be a few of this breed available in the classified section.

MM Alam Road, Wazir Shah Mosque, Khalifa's naan khatai. If you want to do some fine dining then try Café Aylanto. Don't miss out on the Badshahi mosque and dine at Cuckoo's Den whenever you head down that area.

Astaghfirullah. :moyo

Btw, Wagah border is utter rubbish. So childish, cheap and cringe-worthy and you'll be hard pressed to find decent crowd these days.

This stupid gimmick should have been put to rest ages ago. Can't believe it is still going on.

You will easily find public transport any where in Lahore including from PC and avari. You can also try Rikshaws. You will not find taxis easily, also taxis are much expensive.

Places near to PC are Zoo, Lahore muesum , Anarkalii Bazar , Bagh-e-Jinnah. You can also visit Badshahi Qilla, Data Darbar, Jahangir tomb.

You can enjoy a very good walk on mall road and also on canal road.

For food You should go to Food street , MM alam road , Lakshmi.

Get a Rs 200 ( less than 2 $ ) ticket and enjoy the official PTDC Lahore tour on bus with lunch and tour guide provided . Really very clean bus, good food. Its start from Ghaddafi ( so annoying name ) stadium.

Lahore is such a congested place these days with barely any space to move with all sorts of vehicles and carts trying to push through the traffic especially in the purana Lahore area. That's why I like to get outside of Lahore for a trip. Aside from the usual tourist attractions like New Iqbal park (containing Minar-e-Pakistan, Badshahi Masjid etc), Shalimar Gardens and Wagah Border, it may be worth a visit to the new malls like Packages and Emporium. These are quite westernized and really expensive. Fortress stadium can be worth a visit as it includes the Joyland amusement area as well as some nice places to eat. I've heard there are some chair lifts somewhere in the city but I'll need to look into that.

The noonies have wrecked Lahore more than anything.

They keep harping about how green and clean they have made Lahore but in reality they have wrecked old Lahore as there has been no development on that side or investment.

Chair lifts in Lahore? That is a new one for me too, will have to check that out.

Go get a club sandwich from GoGo. It’s the best sandwich in the world. Overall I prefer food in Karachi but nothing beats that sandwich. I get really bored when I go to Lahore nowadays since my cousins don’t live there anymore. Only going to Lahore and Islamabad for 3 days when I go back to Pakistan in a week. Just to see family

My Lahori friends keep raving about this place called Yum for Chinese food. You been there?

Having been to Lahore last week and hung around with Lahori people I have to say Lahore food is overrated and inferior to Karachi's. Maybe my expectations were too high. Last time I went I had same opinion but aleays thought that maybe I didn't go to right places since I was with family so didn't get local guides

The historical places like shalimar gardens and Badshahi mosque are great to visit though

Did you get to have Arif Chatakar House Chicken Tawa? or Manji Munch or Pataka Boti?

Not Manji Munch but the other two. Pataka was great. Also liked the idea of this restaurant andaaz.

I'm not saying it was bad or even average. Most places were excellent.

But they were not next level stuff. Hard to describe what I am meaning to say. The food was great overall but it wasn't out of this world or at a quality level you can't find in other cities

For eg my friend had hyped this place called butt karahi a lot. It was okay and actually took very long. But I can name atleast a couple better karahi places in Karachi (Afridi INN would be my top choice).

Back in 2016 summer I toured the northern areas. And on the way in abbotabad we had karahi in this roadside restaurant (called Shinwari something). The karahi there was unbelievable and I still remember it when the topic of karahi comes up. It was that good! Nothing I had in Lahore was at that level is what I mean. Like I don't think I'll be longing for anything I had 3 months from now let alone 2 years!

Damn should have seen this earlier.

Though normally you wouldn't think if sandwiches being the food to look out for in Lahore

Eat and visit the famous places. Anarkali Bazaar, Shish Mahal and Shalimar Gardens to name a few. Can take in the Wagah ceremony as well.

Pick up shehbaz sharif, ahmed shehzad and umar akmal and drop them so far away that we may never hear from them.
